Different than me...

So the Lord is teaching me that he just does things different than me. Whether it is jobs, housing, and just life in general, He just does things in ways I cannot anticipate or predict. I am glad he is good and leading the way.

Camping with the kids

So we went off to the eastern shore of Virginia for a family camping trip. Chris and one of her friends convinced me that it was "ok" to go car camping. As much as it pains me to pull up with a car and unpack right there at the camp site, it was convenient. I tend to lean towards the slightly edgy, sometimes dangerous form of camping. I would prefer fighting through a sandstorm to set up base camp 5-10 miles from the nearest form of civilization. Fighting through the weather and then announcing to the kiddos "WE MADE IT!!" Sadly, such dreams tend not to play out into reality in a household of all girls....But, we had a great time and the kids really enjoyed it. Here are a few pictures. And keep checking back since I have a remote barrier island that I plan on visiting minus the kiddies..

Cold Ocean

So, right now the ocean is about 48 degrees. Normally, that is cold enough to keep me out, but this past sunday the waves were REALLY big. So on goes the wet suit and the booties and the helmet (I am on a surf kayak) and of course the life jacket. On the way out, I fell off, but made it out with some work. I caught a few waves with some great rides, but had to paddle to stay warm. Then came the big waves, I was like "whoa, that is a big wave". So..... I Paddled and caught it....for a moment. Then I got flipped. And then I got hit by wave after wave by the brother and sister of the big wave. By this point my head was throbbing from being in the cold water for so long. Enough for me. Time to go in and head for home. Enough of the cold ocean for a while. Cannot wait till summer.
