Decorating and undecorating for Christmas

We spent the day after Thanksgiving decorating for Christmas. Elliott was very excited and kept taking things out of the boxes and arranging them how he liked. He kept saying over and over that he was good at decorating. I had to agree. He was a very enthusiastic helper. We bought a new artificial tree this year and it is much bigger than our old one. Trevor watched us fluff out the branches and start putting on ornaments. He was impressed and kept touching the tree and pulling off ornaments.
His favorite was this blue M&M.
 So pretty!
Our decorator, Elliott in front of the tree.
The bottom third of the tree has pretty much been stripped of ornaments.
But that is okay.
We called Elliott our decorator and Trevor our destroyer.
Now we can sit back and enjoy the Christmas season.
Merry Christmas!

Thanksgiving and Trevor's Birthday

This year, we celebrated Thanksgiving with my Aunts at Jennie's house. My mom and Brad were sick so Craig and Holly and family joined us too. We ate a delicious meal and enjoyed chatting and watching the little kids run around. Elliott and Emily and Jeffrey braved the cold and giant dogs to play in the tree house in the backyard. The aunts took turns holding Brianna and playing with Trevor. I am sad I didn't get a picture of us all at dinner, but there was some serious eating to enjoy.
Here is Eileen holding Trevor.
Trevor would be turning 1 on Saturday so we brought cupcakes and his present to celebrate.
The baby that is growing up so fast!
Elliott and Jeffrey were eager to show Trevor how to unwrap his present.
And he sees it and reaches in to push buttons. No matter that it is still mostly wrapped.
We got Trevor a Mickey Mouse car that has lots of buttons and sounds and a long handle so I can push him. Happy Birthday Buddy!
Elliott was terrified to be up so high on his tallest uncle's shoulders. Craig is like an amusement park ride and Elliott is on the cautious side. But he did touch the ceiling so he gets bravery points.
I have so much to be thankful for this year, like all years. I am grateful for my little family that lets me be a wife and mom and enjoy it so much. I am grateful for our extended family and that we are close enough to see them often and be involved in their lives. I am grateful for my faith in Jesus Christ and the peace and joy that only He can provide.

"All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth"

Today was a milestone for us. Elliott had his two front teeth pulled out by the dentist. Ever since Elliott's very first dentist appointment at 3 years old, we have known his front teeth might cause a problem. It looks like there was a chip on the back side of his top front tooth. Add in nightly grinding and the root was nearly exposed. The dentist has been watching it at every checkup and I was hoping his tooth would just fall out before it needed any work. Our options were a pulpectomy, a build-up on the back teeth, or pulling them out. Well, on Sunday night Elliott said his tooth hurt while he was brushing his teeth. Uh-oh. Then at breakfast Monday morning, Elliott said it hurt to chew. I knew the little root had been breached. I called the dentist and they could get us in this morning which was perfect since Brian has the day off for Columbus Day. I left Trevor home with him and Elliott and I went to the dentist. At first Elliott was happy to be there.
The dentist checked on his teeth and we decided the best option was to pull the two front teeth. However his permanent teeth might not come in until he is 8. So I took a final few pictures of Elliott with all his teeth.

I had prepped Elliott that he might need a shot in the gums to have his teeth fixed. I had said it would pinch and hurt a little. But to numb his mouth for tooth extraction, they had to give 2 shots in the front gums. I know from experience that is the most painful spot. So I held his head still and counted to 10 while he got the first shot. It hurt a lot. And he needed another shot. He was crying and wanted to go home. I kept explaining how he needed to do this and his tooth would keep hurting if we left it there. Then I offered to buy him an amiibo figure for our Wii U if he would get the last shot. Finally he opened his mouth and I held his head and counted very slowly to 10 while he got the second shot. His mouth was numb and the dentist very quickly wiggled those front teeth right out.
He was so sad after. They gave him a little chest with his teeth in it. As I was paying at the front, he mumbled though his bloody gauze. I said yes, I would get him an amiibo. The nurse was impressed I could understand his sad mumbling. I know Elliott pretty well though and he was thinking of his reward that he earned. We went home and had about 2 hours before Elliott needed to go to school. We kept replacing his gauze until the bleeding slowed. Elliott was much happier after he came home from school. The numbness had worn off and he had shown off his gaping holes in Kindergarten.
I remember getting 9 teeth pulled at one dentist visit and then 4 more pulled and then the dreaded wisdom teeth pulled. It was traumatic for me as a kid and it was pretty hard to watch Elliott suffer through it as well. But I am incredibly proud of how brave he was. And now he has an adorable lisp and looks like a kid that is growing up.

Elliott turns 6!

Elliott has been very excited for his birthday. He has been obsessing over the new Mario Brothers game on the Wii U. It is called Mario Maker and allows you to create and build your own levels to play. It came out in September and he has been watching reviews on you tube. It is the only thing he wants for his birthday. We started celebrating his birthday with a family dinner at Brian's parents on Sunday night. We had cake and ice cream for Elliott. We added a Mario figurine to a Skylanders Giants cake. Elliott liked it.
Trevor liked the flashing candle and the other candles as well.
Elliott thought he was only going to open one gift which was the amiibo figure he picked to go with Mario Maker. It is a 30th Anniversary pixelated Mario. Then we surprised him by letting him open the game he has been anticipating for months. Brian was leaving the next day for a quick business trip so we wanted to let Elliott celebrate his birthday all week. He could hardly sleep that night, knowing he could play Mario Maker when he woke up.

He has been telling everyone he sees at the grocery store and at school all about Mario Maker, so he was anxious to finally get to play it himself.

Here is the birthday boy on his actual birthday. I was trying to get him to smile as he waited for his carpool to school.
Then I pointed out the birthday presents on the porch from Gramma Cook and this grin says it all!
He went to school where he gave everyone in his class a miniature Twix which is his favorite candy bar. My aunt Gaylene came out for a sleepover. Then Grandma and Grandpa Ashton came out for a pizza dinner and brought Ian and Saffy to play Mario Maker with Elliott. We had a video call with my mom and Brad and Brittany while Elliott opened the gifts from them. That was really fun. Then we had more cake and ice cream. I am not sure why Elliott looks so cranky in this picture.
The next morning Elliott watched Mighty Machines from Brad and I helped him build this semi truck out of his zoobmobile kit my mom gave him. He also is pretty good at the puzzle ball from aunt Brittany.
Birthdays are so much fun, especially when you are a kid! Elliott had a great birthday week and now doesn't know what he wants for Christmas since he has everything he wanted.

Halloween

For Halloween this year Elliott decided to be Iron Man. We decorated for Halloween and carved some pumpkins. I tried to toast the seeds, but did you know that if you burn pumpkin seeds, it smells a little worse than burned popcorn? Oops.
On Halloween night, Brian was ready to hand out candy. I fed Trevor so I could take Elliott around the neighborhood. Trevor fell asleep at 5:30 and so missed dressing up and trick or treating early.
The cute boy behind the mask.
When we returned 2 hours later with Elliott's haul, Trevor was awake. I put him in his costume and took some pictures before he wanted it off.
 What an adorable little dinosaur!
Elliott is trying to cheer up Trevor and help him have fun in his costume.
It didn't work, Trevor was not happy trapped in a dinosaur suit.
Trevor gets so excited to attack his big brother!
 We love Halloween!
