ay yay yay-

Last post was back in April, eh?  Much to post!  this post will cover may and mid-june.  the boys have been growing and i almost cried when i saw pics from April to see how much our boys have changed, particularly dez who has grown into a little dude (i promise i never said dude until i had children- i'll blame it either on the kids or on midlife crisis . . .)
super excited to check out one of the oldest merry-go-rounds in L.A.- on the pier in Santa Monica- dez did have a blast although this picture shows otherwise -

went to San Diego for Kiko's graduation.  Crazy this is the only picture we took of the boys shooting their firemen hoses on the sidewalk . . .
dez and his hommies at Creative Kids-

dominic- just cuz . . . he is as crazy as his hair.

dez' graduation- he looked gorgeous in this green shirt in practicing for the graduation and too cute that they actually have them wear caps and gowns for the graduation.  during the ceremony, dominic attacked all the fun balls you see in the left of the below picture.  the entire shelving almost fell.  i can't blame dominic- it was full of fun toys.
we were sooooo lucky to have Steph and the kids come stay with us for a couple of weeks.  Dez and Dominic couldn't have been happier.  Dominic wanted to protect his baby cousin "baby jack jack" as Dominic repetitively called him much to Jack's sisters' dismay.  funny thing is that Jack is just a couple of days younger than Jack.  At one point, Dominic told Jack to jump to him in the pool and that Dominic would catch him - one guess as to how that ended . . .

the below picture is a glimpse into what our mornings look like at 5/5:30- it just goes downhill from there.

Lastly, Dez' teacher has her kids invent stories- Dezi was proud of the below:

The Princess Marries the Prince

By Dylan, Jimmy, Phoebe, Savannah, Desmond, Lucy, Sruthi

Once upon a time there was a baby owl that flew into the lake. The owl couldn't swim, so her mommy saved her. The mommy owl took her back to the tree. A wolf came and scared them. The owls made a trap for the wolf. The wolf got trapped in the net but he scraped it so he could get out. Then the wolf became friendly and he was following the owls and he became a flying wolf and he was friends with the owls. They were all flying together. They met a princess at the castle. The prince was getting ready for marrying the princess. He had to put his dancing shoes on. The prince kissed the princess and they were married up. The wolf and the owls watched them kiss. The prince and the princess got embarrassed because everyone saw them kissing, even themselves. Then the princess and the prince went on a walk to a dance party. They watched the dance party people. They wanted to dance too so they went back to the castle and they danced and danced. Then they went swimming in Palm Desert.

The End

April Love

So much love and appreciation for our awesome monsters.  We rented a place in Mammoth for the ski season (the worst ski season they have had in over 50 years by the way with the least amount of snow) and really took advantage of it!  we love to stop at the "trading post" in Lone Pine to get gas, let the monsters crawl over this antique horsedrawn carriage and check out the goats, horses, sheep, chickens, etc. that are barely visible in the background in this picture.
you can see here the snow conditions- not that we are complaining as it was in the 50s (disregard the mask- the boys use the "ninja masks" for costume purposes only).  Dominic wants to do everything that Dez does, but skiing was too "slippery mama" for him this year.  there is always next year . . .

ok- what could be better than seeing pure joy in a child's face.  went to chuck e cheese for a birthday party and in addition to being grateful for not getting shot (its not in the best neighborhood), we were grateful that the boys were entertained and could get some of their energy out . . .

Hard to tell in this picture, but i walkedinto the kitchen to see that dominic had put his sunglasses on the eyes of mickey mouse on his tee shirt.  clever little dude.  oh, and yes, those are scissors in his hand that were brandished as a weapon shortly after this picture.

ok- is this kid awesome or what?  the camera really captures his playful & fun attitude in life.  hoping that stays with him as he grows . . .

dez, ah, crazy fun dez.  not sure what to say or how to explain this get up other than dez is going through a "rock star" phase- and the helmet, well, is smart to use as protection against the items that Dominic finds around the house to use as weapons.
Went to dez' school for career day to talk about being a lawyer.  thank god for the internet- search "how to explain you are a lawyer to a child" and you will find numerous hits.  dez was so excited that i was there and that he got to sit on my lap during my "presentation."  after it was all said and done, the kids and i broke out into a fun dance party- oh, to be in preschool again.
The Manhattan Country Club had a SuperHero themed dinner.  Of course we dressed in costume!  Dominic could not believe his good fortune to meet super heros in person.  and Dez, was too busy being crazy and the ringleader of his friends.

dominic mesmerized while getting his face painted wiht a spider by Captain America!

i was superwoman and the boys were spidermen.  only 1 other parent dressed up and of course she is a friend of mine!
Best thing of the below picture is how far dez has his finger up his nose. is that talent or what?
The boys truly love each other and play more often than not with each other.  this is a loving picture of the boys walking to the tennis courts and holding hands.  i mean, C'MON!

March Already?

where did my babies go- i still see them as babies and am surprised to see pictures of them that remind me they are no longer babies.  Dominic is a huge boy- he towers over most of Dez' friends who are also very afraid of Dominic (he doesn't know his own strength or the power of his menacing looks!).

I showed up to pick up the boys with these fake teeth and they have been a hit in our house ever since.

This is one of dez' closest friends, Taylor, from Creative Kids.  Don't let the snow deceive you, it was 70 degrees (they had to bring in snow for snow day).
Dez has impressive building skills and loves lego chicos.  below is a spaceship built out of legos accomplished during the drive to Mammoth.

that's right, dez is about to pummel a girl with a snowball.  gender equality . . .
Dominic loved snow day too, especially the food part.  He is definitely our little eater who lights up when he sees food or knows that food is on the way!  Not only does he eat more than anyone in our house, but he also makes a lot of enjoyable eating noises like "mmmmmmmm" while chewing/inhaling his food.  pretty funny.

Despite the long drive (about 5-6 hours), the boys love Mammoth (or maybe just that they get to stay and play and don't have to go to preschool/daycare).  After a long day at mammoth, dominic crashed on our couch.
The boys love to sled outside our mammoth place.  Thankfully they were wearing helmets- some pretty nasty crashes that fortunately ended in laughter and not tears.

December came and went . . .

Christmas came so quickly this year.  we were very lucky to be able to spend over a week in mammoth with the boys (was exhausting and we feel beaten down, but happy nonetheless).  there was snow and the daytime temperature was in the high 40s- mid 50s.  dez was very happy to see many unexpected friends in mammoth and have more playdates in the course of a week then he has all year.  although this picture doesn't capture it, he was very happy to see his friend Devon (yes, Desmond and Devon got confusing) and enjoy a bag of kettle corn the size of his entire body and a large hot chocolate with tons of marshmellows~!

so much fun to play in the igloo after an exciting ride on the gondola.

dominic is well, just dominic.  a disaster and a love all at the same time.  the top picture is post hair cut and the bottom picture is just fun.
while dez was busy skiing and carving up the mountain, dominic was enjoying long walks without a jacket and gloves (boy, is he stubborn!).  he loves all things trucks, especially firetrucks and couldn't have been happier to have found a fire hydrant.

there is a hill to get from the parking lot to the base of the mountain/chairlift.  it feels very steep, particularly in ski boots & carrying gear, so dez hitched a ride in the wagon used to carry equipment.

dominc is crazy about scooting around.  we went on a family scooter/skate date and after Paul, GP & Dez were worn out, Dominic was still going around and was very upset that scootering had to come to an end.
Santa brunch at the Manhattan Country Club was lovely.  all the beautiful families perfectly coiffed & dressed with their sunday best, children in ties and jackets, etc.  Dez chose this amazing ensemble of a red teenage mutant ninja turtle shirt, purple swimtrunks and blue batman rainboots (not raining).  Have not decided if we are (a) bad parents; (b) worn down by our kids such that the kids rule the roost; or (c) we really appreciate their freedom to express themselves.  let's agree on (c).

after a fun day of skiing, went to the village at mammoth to see the wooly parade and fireworks.  lovely and nippy (again no jacket or gloves for Dominic- just putting on that sweater felt like putting clothes on a screaming racoon).

first time on skates for dominic.  he had a blast and the little skates are probably the most feminine thing he has and will ever wear.   dang cute.

people on stilts in mammoth.  bizarre but entertaining.

the excitement to start afresh in 2014 was quickly disippated when dominic caught his toe on the garbage bin.  after a lovely visit to urgent care and 4 stiches, Dominic was back to his crazy self.  let's hope that it is all up from there in 2014!
