DAY ONE - DAY TWO - DAY THREE

Youth Conference Day - THREE

DAY THREE – Spiritual Day – “That He May Seal You His”

This day was a day to reflect on the importance of having faith and listening to the prophet and gaining a testimony. We visited a few historical buildings in town.
Are they paying attention?
After we roasted either in the sun or in the buildings, we had a picnic in the park.
Kandra and Bishop NoBawlin'Amanda & Kandra
Time for games......a long line for the jump rope. They ran in and ran out counting as high as they could get before someone messed up.
Tug of War Time - girls against boys, wards against wards etc.
While others looked on....
After lunch, we finished our tour of buildings. We dropped kids off at home at 4:00 to clean up for dinner at 5:00. We watched a slide show of some of the pictures that we all submitted, combined with music. It was fun, but not long enough. We enjoyed a great dinner and then went to the Tabernacle for Testimonies. It was a great evening!
IT WAS A GREAT CONFERENCE!!

I have found out how having a small ward can be challenging. I have also found out how a small ward can be a great blessing.

I am so proud of our youth. I know how many of them have to sacrifice each week – especially the YW. They come to Sunday meetings and mutual not knowing if they will be the only young woman there that day and knowing that the leaders will out number them. But they come.

This year we only had two young women that were able to attend Youth Conference and both had to make some sacrifices to come. Of course sleeping in until 11:00 am was probably the hardest sacrifice.

Thomas and Amanda had a tough choice to make. They were having a family camping trip at Lava Hot Springs, which included extended family. I am sure that they would have had a blast. They decided to go to youth conference. I know Amanda missed her mom tons. NOW, this is when the small ward takes affect. I was able to show my love and support to both Amanda & Kandra. I just love these girls. And we missed the rest of the young women. They all have a piece of my heart. I can’t wait until girl’s camp…….OR can I????

If you haven’t figured out by now that the YM in our ward are spectacular! As long as Doran and I are serving with the youth – the YM will be MY boys too.

I hope they will ALWAYS have a desire to honor the priesthood which they hold. In my opinion, this will be the most important thing they can do for themselves and their families! You have heard me say many times how I grew up without the priesthood in my home or even knowing what it was. NOW, it is such a vital, important blessing in my home. And I am grateful for an honorable priesthood holder in my family.

I pray we can all help on another BE STEADFAST & IMMOVABLE, ALWAYS ABOUNDING IN GOOD WORKS – THAT HE MAY SEAL YOU HIS.

I know this church is true and the principles and programs are for our benefit. May we ever strive to be better each day and help each other along the way. I know our Heavenly Father knows us and loves us. I am grateful for the sacrifice that our Savior made for us.

Youth Conference - Day TWO

DAY TWO – Trek Day – “Be Steadfast and Immovable”

We all have our own challenges which may differ quite a bit from each other. Our challenges are WAY different from the pioneers but are not any less challenging – just different. I for one am grateful that I was chosen to come down to be a pioneer at this time – than during a time when we had to live without cell phones and texting.

We as women and young women were reminded of how we can accomplish many hard things. We need to surround ourselves with family and good things and good friends to help us ward off the evil.

We will all have trials in our life that will seem impossible to get through, but we will always have our Heavenly Father and angels round about us. Then we need to make sure that we in turn help those around us.

We ALL learned how important it is to support and help one another. We all have the same goals and that is to get back to our Heavenly Father and our families.

We gathered at the church at 7:30 am and had breakfast. We watched Legacy and divided into 'families'. Our ward combined with one other ward. We had some 'ma and pa's' and we had a wagon master. We then left the church and drove up to Camp Mantua. Our family was assigned three hand carts. One which we found out was pretty heavy. The axles and wheels were much bigger than the rest. Also we had a heavy cooler that I really didn't want to take. It was additional weight that I didn't want to take. All the guys said that they would worry about it.....story will follow why this was important to mention.

Our Trek Begins......

There were several stations along the way that we stopped at. This one is our good and talented friends, Julie and Mike. They talked about the how important music was to the pioneers. When they didn't have any energy left in them they would bed the kids down and dance at night. This was lifting for the spirit. It was something upbeat to look forward to at the end of a long hard day. Oh some must push.... (or run, in this case)

And some must pull, before we reach the valley-o. The guys were actually great. They wanted to take the carts up this hill by themselves. That allowed me to run ahead and get a good shot. There was one hill that was pretty tough. I was never in a position that I could get a shot. But was so proud of our family. We all worked together to make it round that tough spot.
CROSSROADS. Actually there were three different choices. The Swamps, the stream or the trees. Two of the carts chose the swamps which were actually better. The stream actually turned out to be pretty muddy. It looked shorter but....
This is our ward.
Doran and his buddy, Jake.
The cooler full of Gatorade and water came in handy for some. Their drinks and such were left with another 'family'. They caught up to help some of our struggling girls that were falling behind.

These are a couple of leaders from the other ward we 'familied' with.

During one of our 'stations' the men were "called off to war". We saw them take some kind of short cut through the trees to the top of the hill that we couldn't see. We were able to hear a wonderful talk about how we, as women, can do hard things. It was very inspiring. As we listened we were facing the hill we were about to climb. It was called the 'Women's Pull'. It was as steep as the previous picture I posted but this was a lot longer. AND there would be no men to help. Then we were sent on our way. I don't remember doing something that was SO hard. I ended pushing the heavy cart with Julie next to me, one other leader pulling along with Kandra and another young women. We headed off first. By about the time we got almost half way we were really slowing down. Just then a deer ran right across the road about 10 feet in front of us. It was wonderful! We ended up in at stand still or just barely moving. The cart behind us were going to run right over us so they were able to go around. We kept pushing and pulling and at the same time wanting to cry. (Hey, we are girls). We heard some cheering up on top. The other cart must have made it! Then we saw, or rather felt because I was looking at my feet willing them to keep working, the 'finished' girls run past us to help the cart behind. What the? But I think they ended up with only two on that cart because the rest were having struggles and couldn't keep going. Anyway......we finished!!! The men were all up at the top cheering us on. When we finished I just wanted to sit down and cry but I knew there was the other cart still coming up. I knew that I wanted to quit so I am thinking that they are too. I HAD to do what I could. I knew what it would have been like if we would have gotten help. I took my wobbly legs and went to help. That one wasn't as bad. But then again, there were more helping and less weight to pull. We did it!!! The men all put a Ruby necklace on us. Apparently they had a talk about how to support women and that we are as precious as Rubies. And that women should be treated as such. I am thankful for the things they teach the men and young men.
After the next 'station' we had a watermelon break. Notice the BIG black ants crawling on the watermelon......
Well.........our Wagon Master Jason demonstrated how to eat them. YES! He actually ate them. Along with several other critters along the way. Survival Skills? I say BARF!!It was now time to stop for lunch. Here is Mont from our old ward.
Our wonderful Stake Young Women Presidency! They are fabulous!
Waiting for the rest of the clan.
I can do anything as long as I am with this guy! He's my hero. (Even though when we heard about the 'Women Pull' prior to the pull and he PROMISED he wouldn't make us do it alone.)
The last leg of our journey. It was pretty hot and our wagon master was helping us cool off.
We made it back to camp and we unloaded our handcart and went straight to the cold water. (There was bottled water in the creek/canal with a bridge)

Maybe picking on Kandra wasn't such a good idea. Wagon Master Jason helped even up the odds.
Here we are waiting for a wonderful Dutch Oven dinner that we didn't have to cook.
GUESS WHO????
We finished off with a Hoe Down. The caller was good. He taught the whole Stake how to dance. We had a lot of fun dancing and grabbing sweaty dirty hands. I do believe that most everyone was tired and ready for bed. By time Doran and I got everyone home and unpacked AND went down and washed the suburban.......we were able to get in the shower at midnight. I wanted to just leave the windows down in the car wash so we could wash the inside of the suburban AND take a shower at the same time. Well that didn't happen.

Here we are doing the Do-si-do.
WHAT FUN!! WHAT FUN!!

Youth Conference - Day ONE

Ok.....here is my report on Youth Conference. I had a hard time deciding which pictures to use but these are some of my favorite. And the beginning will be my talk I had got to give in Sacrament yesterday, along with five youth, and Doran ended with his talk. I am SO grateful that Doran and I are in these callings together. It is so much fun to be with him. I hope you don't get bored because we sure weren't.

Our theme this year is found in Mosiah 5:15. “Therefore, I would that ye should be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works, that Christ, the Lord Omnipotent, may seal you his, that you may be brought to Heaven, that ye may have everlasting salvation and eternal life."

Youth Conference planning was to meet the requirements of this scripture.

The youth will go more into depth on the activities that we participated in. (For the blog I will insert the activities) I just want to share with you a few things that touched me. It is not new news to anyone and we have all heard it before.

DAY ONE – Service Day – “Always Abounding In Good Works”
This day was about giving service. Some of it was kind of fun. Some of it was not so fun. But the reward at the end was great. We all need to remember that service work – or “Good Work” isn’t always fun and sometimes not always convenient. But I don’t think there are very many of us that would think that any service work we have done was a waste of time. We will either see our reward immediately in the faces of those we serve or sometimes no one will know what we have done – but we will feel the reward in our hearts.

We all gathered at the church and had breakfast and then divided into several groups. Not necessarily staying with our own ward. Then we went on a scavenger hunt for the food pantry and a few other organizations to help restock supplies. We were then given different service projects in the stake. Our group did this......The fence surrounded the whole back yard.

Before...
After...
Then of course we had to have some fun at lunch. And this kid can eat!! Alma was actually in another group staining a fence and deck. Can ya tell?
My Priesthood holder and me.
We moved on into the high school to clean out lockers. (The not fun part) I tried to hide Amanda in a locker.
Now comes the reward. We took all the youth up to Wellsville to a homemade waterslide. They had a blast!!

Taylor doing whirlies coming down.
Can you tell how much fun they are having? This is our man Jake.Kandra and Amanda Flying WildingMr. Olympian AlmaKayden and KandraAmandaJake, just before he got plowed into. You can't see it, but there is a muddy area. Some of the kids were coming down so fast that the ones in front didn't have time to get off. Jake got run over and he landed in the mud. I thought he would have a couple of cracked ribs. But he is just a muddy HE MAN.Look Jen! Justin had fun too!Crusin' Parrish
