Lending Support

A good and long time friend of mine lost her father the other day due to years of illness. I went to his viewing last night to give her and the rest of the family my support.
As I hugged her and gave her my condolences, she asked if I got any easier. I told her it does. But as I left I was overcome with a moment of shedding tears. Not only for the loss of my father, but I "KNEW" what she was feeling. The hurt. The deep down in your heart hurt.
After my father died I realized how so important it is to "mourn" with those that mourn. You don't have to make things all better and really you can't but you CAN be a support in one way or another. I have always tried to be supportive to those that have lost a loved one, but until you lose someone you really don't realize what that really means when someone is there for you.
We don't know what to say? That's ok. Don't say anything, just be there or send a card.
I still fall short in letting others know that I am think of them, mainly because I am LOUSY at sending cards. Why do I write this now? I guess to remind myself that Heavenly Father loves and cares for everyone. And it is through us to see to the needs of others.
I will work on this better.
And Christie....I love you! You will ALWAYS be a very dear friend to me!!

Valentines Dinner

Look what I found in my camera. I forgot all about these pictures.
Once a month we have a family dinner. In February I decided to make a Valentine's Dinner.
Scooter helping with the cups?
You can't tell very good from the pictures but we had...
pink mashed potatoes,
heart-shaped meat loaf. (This thing was huge)
And my mom made heart-shaped biscuts.
We had pink salad and Chelsea wanted fried pickles.
I love it when family gets together! We don't get to play much this year because our church is so late, but it is nice to have everyone there.
It looks like only Scooter and I were there, but really everyone else was too. We just didn't get their picture. :)

Midnight Sneek

Does this mean it wasn't meant to be for me to have a bowl of Honeycomb before bed last night?
A brand new box. :'(

Sacred Mountain Trail Run

Ok. Let's say that I want to run in this kind of difficult 10K the first weekend in June. And let's also say that I am having a hard time getting off of the couch and away from the fridge.
How should I being to train?

THE SILENT SERMON

A member of a certain church, who previously had been attending services regularly, stopped going. After a few weeks, the pastor decided to visit him.
It was a chilly evening. The pastor found the man at home alone, sitting before a blazing fire. Guessing the reason for his pastor's visit, the man welcomed him, led him to a comfortable chair near the fireplace and waited.
The pastor made himself at home but said nothing. In the grave silence, he contemplated the dance of the flames around the burning logs. After some minutes, the pastor took the fire tongs, carefully picked up a brightly burning ember and placed it to one side of the hearth all alone then he sat back in his chair, still silent.
The host watched all this in quiet contemplation. As the one lone ember's flame flickered and diminished, there was a momentary glow and then its fire was no more. Soon it was cold and dead.
Not a word had been spoken since the initial greeting. The pastor glanced at his watch and realized it was time to leave. He slowly stood up, picked up the cold, dead ember and placed it back in the middle of the fire. Immediately it began to glow, once more with the light and warmth of the burning coals around it.
As the pastor reached the door to leave, his host said with a tear running down his cheek, 'Thank you so much for your visit and especially for the firey sermon. I will be back in church next Sunday'.
We live in a world today, which tries to say too much with too little. Consequently, few listen. Sometimes the best sermons are the ones left unspoken.

26th Anniversary

I'm doing the posting so I can tell this story how I remember it, right?
Doran and I met 27 years ago last month. For me I was smitten the first time I met him. (Plus he had a nice car and offered to pay the babysitter.) It took me a whole year to convince him that he loved me. I chased and chased until he finally caught me. Then one day he asked me if I wanted to get married the next weekend? Well yaaahh. I figured we better hurry before he changed his mind. My mom and everyone did a fantastic job putting a wedding together on such short notice. And I thought that his family, living 600+ miles away, would clobber us. (Remember it was Doran that gave you such short notice.) But they were so good to make arrangements and come on up. We had the bishop in my mom's ward marry us in her front room. Doran's Best Man was his cousin, Gordon, and my Maid of Honor was my best friend, Carol.
Would ya look at those youngsters. We were married a year and a month after we met. Chelsea was two by the time we got married. Doran has been such a great daddy!!
I just love my long haired hippie.
A year and a couple of months after we were married we were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Chelsea was also sealed to us. What a great day. I can't find my pictures from that day. I was huge with our next baby, Cortney, and delivered two weeks after.
This is Doran's favorite picture of us years ago.
And this is just a couple of years ago in my mom's back yard.
This is how we look at each other now.
I just love this man!! He is my best friend!
Thanks so much for everything you do and everything you are Doran.
I LOVE YOUR GUTS!!!!

Dodge Ball

Last month some women got together to start playing dodge ball. I was invited and way excited.

I can't remember everyones name.
Jackie, Lori, Jerri?, Carla's daughter
Me, Carla's daughter, Carla, Laurie

We had lots of fun. At least I did. I was pretty sore for a week after and then we played the following week. Well after that night I was done for. I had pulled a muscle in my back and was in so much pain for a couple of weeks. I couldn't even sleep at night. I haven't been back to play yet. The Dr. said to wait. So I am back to eating everything in sight and sitting on my fanny.

Well, that's not all true, I actually made it to the gym yesterday. I made it just over 3 miles. That's an improvement right? Uh....I didn't make it tonight because we just picked up a half of beef and stocked the freezer. It was too late for me to go to the gym. (That's my story and I'm stickin to it.) So off Doran went to the gym and I am making him a healthy dinner. (Nachos with Doritos and lots of cheese).

Circus Time

On February 1, Chelsea and I took the girls to the circus. They had fun. I.....well let's just say, they had fun. I had fun watching them have fun. I just have heard too many stories about how their animals are treated. Shiver. I felt sorry for all of them.
And the best part for me.....the COTTON CANDY of course. We all enjoyed it!
And this was just crazy. There is already one guy in there on a bike and here is another one waiting to go in.
Just crazy I tell ya! And the smell of those machines.....well it reminded me of snowmobiling when I was growing up. So I guess it wasn't all THAT bad.
One thing I made the girls promise me....
That no matter how mad or discouraged they got while growing up, they would NOT run away and join the circus. Before they do that, they would come see me.

January

In January we met Jon & Denise's family with mom and Stan half way between our house and theirs. We celebrated the January birthdays at this cute little Mexican restaurant.
Jon was unable to make it but the rest of the family was there.
My cute and fun sis-in-law, Denise.
Mom, Me and Jordan all had birthdays in January. We forgot a cake but the owners found these candles for us. Miranda, Jordan & Katie.
Also in January Chelsea and I met Audrey, Shandra and Cow Wow. (That's how the girls pronounce Kalel's name). I have no clue what my camera was set on but my pictures turned out terrible.
Anyway, Scooter and CowWow run around after lunch. They had to explore and they were so cute.
I wish these pictures turned out. There was a cabinet there and Scooter wanted to sit in there. CowWow is giving her a kiss. A little young don't ya think?
Peek-A-Boo
I just love this little GriL!!

Memories

Last night Doran and went over to Jason and Chelsea's to watch the kids while they went to the baby Dr. This was their first visit for their fourth (girl). Ok, maybe we don't know what it really is going to be, but no one knows how to take care of a boy so.....

Scooter and I played games and read books while Doran played Chutes and Ladders with Bananie and Cookie. I took a picture with Chelsea's camera but it somehow got deleted.

When it was bedtime we all gathered in the front room and Grandpa Doran started to tell the kids the story of "The Bunnies Magical Playground". When our girls were little the kids loved to listen to him tell the story. I sent a text to the girls and told them they were missing out on the story. The were bummed. You can't buy it in stores, you see he makes it up each night. There are different adventures each time and the story will include the kids.

Scooter was getting restless so I had to stand up and rock her in the hall to try to get her to sleep. I couldn't hear the story very well but last night they came across a jerky tree or bush. (Our family LOVES Doran's homemade jerky) And there was even a lemonade stream.

I just love it when he tells stories like this. He made me smile and giddy inside just thinking about when our girls were little. He has such a great imagination! Too bad he doesn't write things down.

Ah...the memories we make!
