What is that noise?

I love sitting on our patio in the evening, watching the long shadows of the day and enjoying the neighbors kids. Tonight the sun is down, the kids have gone inside and I hear this noise....kindof like the spikes in the plant next to me are tapping on the stucco. I ignore it for awhile but it gets the best of my curiosity. I start looking for the spike tapping the house and find HIM. The sound is him munching on my plant! I don't know if I should be annoyed or not? After all he is just hungry... And so am I...off to raid the fridge.

Playing Catch Up

I keep thinking "I got to get caught up on my blog", but I never do it. Now it has been over year since anything new has been posted, so instead of going backwards I am only going to move forward (except on Flash Back Friday) and just start from today.

So the latest news it that North saved up his pennies ($700 dollars worth) from work and bought a P.O.S... oh I mean a car. :) He got a 1989 Toyota Camry, and for how old it is, it is in pretty decent shape. It doesn't leak oil, has a strong engine, no dents and very little rust, it use to be a gold color but is now oxidized color...is that a color? No need to stay off the sidewalks or be worried about a speed demon, the car barely exceeded 60 mph, maybe 65 and North has been driving for a year, with no tickets or wrecks...yeah North!! He is one more step closer to leaping from the nest.

Star Wars

Dave remembers being 12 years old, sitting in a theater and being awe struck as the first star destroyer made its way across the top of the screen and over everyones heads. Star Wars was a life changer to a 12 year old boy. Parker invited Dave to a Star Wars event with an orchestra playing the music form the first Star Wars and being hosted by the person who played C3P0. It was a bigger event than either of them expected. They were met by Stormtroopers, Boba Fett, Darth Vader, Queen Amidala, and the Sith Lord himself.

I am surprised how many places in Utah there are to Scuba dive. We have been to the Crater at the Homestead in Midway, Sand Hollow near St. George and this latest dive was at Blue Lake in Wendover.

It was an underwater pumpkin carving contest. We met up with the group, picked out a pump kin, cleaned it out and set out for the lake.

Vis was about 4 feet and very green. They said that the algae was blooming, which made it not so fun. We carved a typical jack-o-lantern face and then searched for one of the many metal formations that have be placed thru out the lake, but you could be within 3 feet of one and not see it. We gave up the quest and ended our dive.

Landing at Maverick

Parker and I were diving on our way out of the neighborhood, going to the craft store, an as we were going around the round-about a helicopter was circling over head. We both commented on it and how low it was. As we reached the light at the corner we noticed the Maverick gas station had it's entrances taped off and the workers were all out side. Parker said "I bet that helicopter is going to land there". I turned the other direction and parked in front of the Maverick just as the helicopter came over head and landed between the gas pump awning and the store. How in the heck could they land there and NOT hit the buildings??? But it landed as smooth as can be. Some guy jumped out and a camera man followed.

Come to find out, Maverick has a contest and the winner does some extreme activity and "stops" in at a Maverick to get a drink and treat and then goes on their way. They have had snorkelers, zip liners, skydivers and this guy learned to fly a helicopter.
Pretty cool thing to see them land so close!

First Dive

Dave and I went to Hurricane Utah (it is pronounced hurr-i-can, don't offend them by saying hurr-i-cane) :) to do our first dive out! We went to Sand Hollow Reservoir, it was beautiful and hot out side, about 101, and the water was perfect temp for a dive.
Being newbies, we took 3 trips to haul all our gear from the parking lot to the red sandy shore, sweating and huffing the whole time.... dumb us.. tip of the day... put all your gear together and on at the car and then it is only one trip down to the lake and into the water.

Dive Utah was hosting the dive and had placed golf balls thru out the dive site, then were doing a give away. We finally got in the water!! I was kind of nervous to go down.. Dave held my hand and below we went. Vis was about 15 feet and not to bad. We followed ravines and found the obstacle course. There is a Cessna plane and a VW van but we didn't find them and then on our way out someone told us to just follow the pink rope.. that would have been nice to know before we were leaving!!!

We had a fun time and learned how to use our dive computers. Got in 2 dives and will go back to Sand Hollow, especially now that we know where to look for the plane and van!!

Surprise!!

Jill has always been a little short changed when it comes to parties for her birthday. Being at the end of August with 3 birthdays and an anniversary before her, school starting and both of the cars inspections always due, she had mostly had family parties. For her 21st we wanted to do something special. One morning, while she was asleep (with her phone, in case she gets an email from Stephen) is crawled into her room on all fours. Around the bed and over the mountains of clothes and shoes... reaching the cord where it was plugged in I pulled the phone from under the covers and into my hand. When I unplugged it, it "brinnged".

"Shhhhh".
I slid it into my shirt and crawled back around the bed and over the mountains and reached the safety of the hall. Whew! I knew if I simply copied her contacts to my phone she would see it, so I wrote down all (over 100) contacts, by hand! Now to get the phone back to Jill... crawling again around the bed and over the mountains, Calypso (the cat) followed me. Curious why I was on all fours, and just as I reached the cord, he "meow"ed.
"Shhhhh"
"meow?"
"Shhhhh"
Plugging in the phone, "brinnggg"
"Shhhhh"
and pushed it back under the edge of the sheets, back around the bed, over the mountains and out the door.... whew.

I text her friends, and some who were not (I got one back saying they would come but that Jill didn't like them anymore and they had been uninvited to come over ever again) :) to a surprise party for Jill. Parker, North and Abby decorated the club house then Parker took Jill out for her birthday to a movie and brought her back for her surprise!

A pool, cake and music. I think she was truly surprised to see us and so many friends that came! She had a great time and made some great memories!

Only 3 months old

Dave goes thru shoes like women go thru makeup. He used up and wears out his shoes in a matter of months, doing all that climbing on ladders, going thru bushes and in and out of window wells. What a hard worker... he deserves a new pair of shoes.

IT OFFICAL... ABBY IS A TEENAGER

Abby turned 13!!! and is a teenager! We told her we are so glad she is a teen but that she can't act like one!! We'll see how long that lasts... AH!
She got Money (of course) and a new bedroom set so her room looks more like a teens room, although it already has clothes, makeup, shoes, cd's and bedding all over her floor.

She spent the day with her best friend, Tessa, going roller skating and to the movies, then home to a family party.

Welcome to teenager-hood!!

A New Adventure

This year I am breaking fears!! I have always been afraid of horses, things in the water and heights, and have always wanted to do new things but afraid I wouldn't be able to or to be more exact... afraid that I would try and not be able to due to my weight. So 35 pounds down we went on a horse back ride in Puerto Vallarta, thru the Mexican mountains, up and down huge hills with one side of the cliff gone to look straight down 40 feet, thru rivers and to a beautiful view of the Puerto Vallarta valley. On that same trip we went snorkeling in Cabo San Lucas in the Sea of Cortez. It was so amazing to be somewhere so beautiful and see so many amazing sea animals.

Down 20 more pounds I decided that I wanted to be able to see more of the sea animals and things of that different world, so Dave and I took SCUBA lessons!!! We took classes at Scuba Utah, and let me tell you that Jeff is the best instructor. I would recommend them to anyone who was interested in diving!! He was patient and took time out with each of us so that we felt comfortable in the water. We learned how to survive almost any scuba disaster and how to swim with the fishes.

Dave and I only missed one each on the final test.."Go Us" and took our 2 open water dives to complete the course, up at the Crater at the Homestead in Midvale. It is a beehive shaped cavern with a natural warm water spring water, about 90 degrees year round. It is about 60 feet deep, with a plastic alligator and plastic turtle, a platform, wagon wheel and several PVC squares to practice on. There is a hole in the top of the dome to let light in and an entrance dug thru the side to gain access so you don't have to jump in from the hole on the top, like you use to.

We passed with flying colors and are now officially certified SCUBA divers. Our first dive is in August at Sand Hollow Reservoir... soon to come.

Dave meets some celebrities

A few days before the 4th of July Dave went to the "Sidewalk of Fire" that was being hosted by 101.9 The End. He met Chunga, Cort and Chelsea from the morning show, who we are going on the Cruise Loco 2 with. He had Chunga burgers (at 8 in the morning!! ewwww) and watched the sad firework show.

While he was there he met and hung with this wierd looking guy...Trevor Snarr, who played Don on Napoleon Dynamite. Dave met Trevors dad who just happens to be the Mayor of Murray, Mayor Snarr. A few days later at a ward breakfast we were talking to the Bishop, Dave telling him about meeting Trevor and Mayor Snarr, and the Bishop breaks it to us that that is his wifes Dad and brother! Talk about a SMALL world! Bishop Dombrosky said that family get-togethers are very crazy! I could imagine :)

Calypso & Cleo

After Hazard passed we didn't think we would ever have a cat as cool and him... We found 2! Calypso and Cleo are bother and sister bangle cats. A cross between a bangle leopard and a house cat. Calypso is a marbled bangel with gold yellow eyes and easy going temperment. Cleo is a spotted bangle and is a girl.... tempermental :).
They are very smart, don't meow, but chidder and have great personalities. Calypso is always teasing and chasing Cleo and she will growl and acted all annoyed and then wait for him to do it again.
