SHe Expedition - Part 2

More expedition photos.

Water location for Kinango.

Community restroom. They don't have bathrooms in their houses.

Teaching classes and school photos.

Volunteer housing - makeshift room in the school that was already renovated. It was crazy to dodge all the mosquito nets.

American culture class/gym - teaching the students the electric slide.

We painted for days and hours using these little paintbrushes. They also thinned the paint. One part paint to three parts paint thinner. It was like painting with milk.

Hospital photos - can you see the goat in the hospital, it is hiding in the bushes. There were also chickens running around.

Kids games.

We gave our business class an entrepreneurial task. We told them we would rent bikes from them for 200 shilling each up to 40 bikes. They found thirty. I was in the second bike riding group so I actually got one of the best bikes to ride. Still I had no back breaks. It was an exciting ride up and down all the hills, but at least mine had a seat.

Student connections.

Our facilities - outhouse and showers. I was grateful for our makeshift showers. Bucket showers rock, especially when I wasn't expecting to have warm H2O.

I saw this countless times in the cities. Who would want to buy a couch after it was drenched in rain and sat in puddles?

Mombasa photos. This is the beach just outside our hotel.

SHe Expedition - Part 1

I went on a humanitarian mission with 44 others to Kinango, Kenya. There are not words sufficient to explain this amazing life changing experience. The land and people are beautiful. I loved the happiness of the people. Below is part one of the photos.

We started in Mombasa (on the Indian Ocean), where we met up with the entire group and bought our skirts for the mission. Mis-communication between the in-country director and headquarters resulted in us not knowing that the women had to wear skirts in the village. That led to an interesting shopping experience in the crazy Mombasa marketplace.

Working conditions in the city.

This bell is a reminder of the slave trading that happened in Kenya.

Water location on way to village of Kinango.

Welcoming Party at Kinango Secondary School - location of expedition.

The Crew.

Our project - business development clinic, medical/dental clinic, teaching clinic and construction project. After visiting the hospital I am thankful that I was not a patient there.

Main Street Kinango.
