Today's Thought

"Neither Satan nor any other power can weaken or destroy your growing character. Only you could do that through disobedience. That is why Satan is so intently focused on tempting you to make decisions that will undermine your character. Satan is an accomplished master at making devastating choices appear attractive, even reasonable. So be careful. At this critical time of life you will be faced with many choices. The decisions you will make will profoundly affect life now and for eternity. Make them wisely and prayerfully."

Paper Bag

If you had to bring something special in a paper lunch bag to show to a new group of peers tomorrow, what would it be?

I would have to say a picture of my family and a picture of Doran and I. I am thankful for my family. I am thankful for the funny people they are and the good times we have.

I am especially thankful for Doran and our marriage!! It hasn't always been peaches but how we have grown together has been fantabulous! We are best friends and love spending time together! I am also grateful that we have had the opportunity to be sealed for Time AND all ETERNITY!! Maybe by then I will have taught him how to read my mind. Ya think?

What would you bring to share?

Lunch Bunch - Back to School

What is your favorite part about Back to School?  Why?
Hmm...Since I have no school children at home anymore this has different meaning. However, every year I miss the new clothes, backpacks, school supplies and excitement. I liked the routine as opposed to the end of summer chaos.

Just last week it took all I had NOT to buy my grown daughters a new backpack and lunch box. I should have any way. Then I forgot to get a cute "back-to-school" surprise for my primary class.
My grand kids started a new school this year, one that I have never explored, so I may have to go familiarize myself with it.

Oh....and I miss smelling the book order paper. You know what I'm talking about. The little papers that you get to take home and beg your mom to buy this and that book. How you promise you will read it every day!! Ya, call me weird but when I get mail SOMETIMES I get some that have that same smell. Ah...brings back memories. :)

Good luck in school this year!!!

Top of Utah Half Marathon

Since I am on the injured list I couldn't run. I am not a very good "watcher". I didn't want to get up at the crack of 4:something to shower just to take Doran over and dump him off to the bus and then what would I do for FOUR hours, so we took the trailer over Friday after work. That way I could take him to the bus in the morning and come back and take a nap shower and be back before he came through the finish. Good plan eh?

We wanted to have dinner with Susette but they didn't get out of Dodge until 5:30. It would be midnight (ok maybe not that late) before we got anything to eat. They ended up grabbing Subway on the way and we ended up meeting Sugar and Ashley for dinner at the Firehouse. We love that place. Ashley is a cute girl.

RACE DAY
Here he is....almost done.
GO DADDY!!!!
Woot!
 He finished 1:53:37
Susette, Kristene (Susette's friend), Doran
After Doran got done we walked back up a ways to find Susette to run the last mile or so with her. I SO wish I could have ran the whole thing with her!! However, I DID get my picture taken with her from Zazoosh! Click HERE to see.

Here are some posters that her family made for her.
What a great route! Maybe next year...

Run Daddy Run

Tomorrow is the Top of Utah Half Marathon. We....well, Doran, will be participating. I get to watch...again. However I do hope to run the last couple of miles with Susette when she comes screamin' in.

Good luck to all the runners!

To Read or not to Read...

If you know me, I am an avid reader mostly LDS books. Why? Because they are safe to read without reading all the potty stuff that I CHOOSE not to read. Several friends suggested I read
I had no idea what it was even about and no one would tell me because I always tell people, "Don't tell me!!!" Anyway so I decided to read. Well I flew through that one and then I JUST finished
Now I am not patiently waiting for the library to call and tell me the book has been returned and I am next. PSHA! What am I posta do in the mean time, knit!!?? I don't think so.
I wonder what the movie is going to be like? I can't decide if it is something I want to see or not. I've got until March to decide.

Lunch Bunch - Why did I begin a blog?

I am so sad. I went back to my "old blog" to get the post I wrote about this very topic. I forgot that when I "ran out of room" on the old blog and since I already printed off my first year blogging book from there I started deleting the oldest posts in hopes to make more room. Long story short....Instead of "buying" more room I started this new blog. I should have just bucked up and spent the whopping $5. I wonder if I can join the two blogs? If someone knows how I can, let me know.

Anyway....thinking back. (Careful, when the wheels turn the smoke starts and the brain hurts!)
My daughter Chelsea and I were talking and I believe that she had just started a blog. I thought that might be a good way to put my millions of pictures I take on there instead of on a CD where we don't look at them or in a box. And because I am lousy about writing in my journal, this would be a good way to remember stuff and also let our family, close and out of state, know what we were up to. I told her I would think about it and SHE said if I didn't have one started by the end of that day SHE would put one up for me and I wouldn't have any say on what went on there. So I took that challenge! Now I get to put whatever I want, whether it be pictures, jokes, stories, my testimony and misspelled words, all BY myself!

What motivates me? Uh...notice there are several gaps in this blog. Wait, on second thought, DON'T look too close. I go in spurts and wish I was the dedicated poster. I LOVE, love LOVE my blog book. I need to get the rest of the years caught up. I also inherited my grandmothers diaries. There isn't a whole lot written in there and I KNOW my mother doesn't have anything written. But I am FACINATED with journals and stories and figured...hmm....maybe MY posteriety might be interested in what Doran and I do.....so thus is OUR BLOG.

Feel free to post for me when I get behind. Hint, hint. That would be now.

U.S.A. !!!!

Just went and got a few groceries a few days ago. We read every label and bought USA. I did my part, how bout you?

BTW... Tyson products are NOT USA friendly.

We went where???

And in NO particular order because I am SOOOO behind on my blogging AND I don't want to try and fix every picture AND I want ALL these pictures for my blog book that will be made at a WAY later date AND......

In July daddy and I went camping to Palisades, Idaho. We met Kennon and Cheri and Jeff and Danyell. It was a fantabulous time! We got up there on Thursday night and just enjoyed some visiting and hot dogs. Well they were actually GIANT hot dogs that Cheri shared with us. Then of course some marshmallows.

The next morningish we headed for the lake in Jeff's toy boat. We had fun! Maybe that's because I didn't have to get in the water and I didn't see any sharks but we did see an Eagle. Beautiful!
Cheri-Sue
Danyell & Jeff (Kodak moment)
We made Danyell sit outside to read where she would be closer to the sharks than me.
This is Danyell's first time pulling the boat! Woot for her!
Daddy and I
This is how REAL men untangle fish.

THEN......
That night we went to BAR J! I could go here EVERY year!

"Grandma" came (from the jail) and told the story of Rindercella.

Just before the show started they called this girl up because she won the "door prize". There IS not door prize. But this is an even better surprise!

The next morning the others went out on the boat and we headed to Jenny Lake. We decided to hike around the whole lake and up to Hidden Falls. It ended up being about EIGHT miles. It was beautiful! The whole experience took us about FIVE hours.

Let me back up a sec. Before we left camp we had a prayer and in the prayer we asked that if there was anyone that we could help that day that we would be in tune with the spirit and heed the promptings. Then on we went. Actually I forgot about the prayer. (Is that bad?)
Any way here we go......

such a crisp shadow
Notice the color of the shirt....I'll explain later.
We passed this family about half way around the first part. It reminded us about one time when we took our girls hiking when they were puppies. We were unprepared for the distance and thus made our kids suffer. One of them had heat exhaustion and the others were not feeling very well either. Daddy had to carry one back. Needless to say that never happened again.....at least while they were young.
Anyway...when we passed this family we decided to wait for them a little ways up and see if they needed help. The dad was carrying the child carrier already and mom had to give her backpack to the oldest child so she could carry then next youngest. I ended up with the back pack and the little girl walked RIGHT next to me the rest of the way to the falls. She was stuck to me like glue and talked up a storm. She was so cute! I asked if they knew Tauna because they were from the same area. They didn't know her.
Moving on......
We enjoyed our time with this little family and we enjoyed the falls too.

What a great hike!
Now..remember that pink shirt picture....
Well it so happens that a bloggy friend that will remain NAMELESS (only because I made her feel bad enough) saw what she THOUGHT was me so she did some spying and snapped this picture. THEN she sent me an e-mail a couple of hours later asking if I HAPPENED to be at Jenny Lake? Well, yes I was. I wish she would have stopped me so we could have had our pictures taken in our MATCHING shirts!!!
This is HER and her hubby.
LOL....maybe next time.

On the way home from there at the last screeching moment I asked daddy to pull in a campground so we could check it out for future reference. We ran in to some men that were from our Stake and they had a flat tire. We had a tire pump that we helped them get air in the tire and the spare and sent them on their way home with the pump.

We had a great day! Then we got thinking about the prayer that we had that morning. Remember, the part about being led to anyone that needed our help? Well we were on cloud 9 for heeding the promptings we had that day. We always feel better when we help others. We didn't think about it all day until the day was about done. No wonder we had such a good day. It was little acts of service on our part but maybe a blessing to those we helped.

What if we ALL went about our day EVERY day to FIND someone who needs our help, no matter how big or small? Wouldn't it be wonderful!

Help for the Cranes

I know I have such a small "audience" for this blog but I do want to pass on some information about a fundraiser for a dear friends family member.

On Monday, July 18th, the Crane's tragically lost an Uncle,Brother,Son,Cousin, friend, but most of all a Dad/Husband. Kacey passed away due to injuries sustained in a small plane crash in Grace, Id. He leaves behind his wife and 2 little boys. At this time they are trying to raise money to minimize the stress of daily life so they may concentrate on healing. There are SO many great people out there and it truly takes a whole bunch of people doing something small to make a HUGE difference.

You can go to Help for the Cranes if you want to see the items for bid. The bidding ends on the 17th at 8:00 pm. Good luck!

The Answer

Short and Sweet update

We survived another layoff yesterday. Unfortunately one of daddy's friends didn't. The layoffs these last few years have included severance. Rumor has it that another one is in October and there may be no more severance. I think the company is getting ready to shut the doors. Who knows.

Cortney will be receiving her endowments tomorrow at the Bountiful Temple. (She wanted to go to Mesa but we needed more notice. She is invited to a friends wedding next weekend and wanted to be able to attend.) We will be completing some family names and doing a bunch of sealings too including my grandparents and my father to my grandparents. We would love to have you join us whoever wants/can go. I am short a proxy for one male ancestor.
