Today's Thought

"Neither Satan nor any other power can weaken or destroy your growing character. Only you could do that through disobedience. That is why Satan is so intently focused on tempting you to make decisions that will undermine your character. Satan is an accomplished master at making devastating choices appear attractive, even reasonable. So be careful. At this critical time of life you will be faced with many choices. The decisions you will make will profoundly affect life now and for eternity. Make them wisely and prayerfully."

Things change, Fancy

A few years ago I read and listened on CD to a story. One of the characters (the father) had a pet name for his daughter. He called her Fancy. It was an endearing name the way he used it. In the story when things got hard he would always say "Things change, Fancy. Things change all the time." His meaning...there would always be changes in our life, good and bad, and we should deal with them the best we can and that things would work out. I LOVED to read/hear it when he would tell her that.

Well we are have another change in our life.

Doran will be released as Gospel Doctrine teacher and Stake YM Counselor as he has been sustained to the High Council this past Sunday. I think he will do a fabulous job! Yes, he will miss his most favorite calling as Gospel Doctrine teacher. But he will still have the opportunity to teach in Sacrament and other areas. Yes, I will have to sit by myself in church now. Yes, I will NOT like it at all!!

One of my fears that I have never shared with others and only with Doran is the fact that I am afraid to count on my own to go and sit alone in church. Right now I can't stand the thought of missing church. I LOVE church! But for some reason sitting alone does NOT appeal to me. I SO admire the widows and the single parents or the parents that have to take their children to church alone. I know it is a silly "fear" that I have but it is "REAL" to me. When Doran was in the Bishopric years ago I at least had children to sit by and he was only on the stage. But this calling will take him to other wards and different times. Not only will I not see him church but I may not see him after church.

I know this is selfish of me so as I fully sustain Doran and know that he will be wonderful in his new calling I have to remind my self...."Things change, Fancy." Things will work out.

And yes, I am so excited for this opportunity for him. He is MY spiritual giant and I think he will serve others very well indeed!

Temple Ushers/Labor Day Weekend

Our Labor Day weekend began on Friday. We were ushers at the Brigham City Temple from 6:00 am - noon. It was a great experience! There were people from all over! We met some from Utah, N.Y., Australia. There was a short film that the visitors watched and then they were able to take a tour. There were some that didn't want to watch the film but just wanted to take the tour. Interesting...

After our usher experience we headed home to hook up the trailer, picked yummy stuff out of the garden and be on our way camping with mom and Stan. We had camping reservations up in Bear Lake. The plan was so go check in/set up camp and then head on over to the Pickleville Playhouse. We had reservations for the early show of El Banditos and then dinner.

Here is where I should have inserted a picture of our Suburban on a tow trailer. Yes, we broke down IN Logan canyon. The truck just died going up the canyon. We were so fortunate that we broke down where we did. If you are familiar with that canyon it is windy and narrow with not many places to pull over. However, where we broke down we were able to coast off in to a pull-off area. Even though we were bummed that our plans were being messed up, we were so grateful to be where we were in the canyon.

We waited until mom and Stan found us. Then they drove us down the canyon until we could get some phone reception. We had to call a tow truck for the truck and No Bawlin's (our neighbors) to come get the trailer. Luckily Clive was home. What a good doobie for him to come save us. Mom and Stan wanted to just take their trailer somewhere in the campgrounds that were close and then come and get ours but that would still leave us with only one truck with two trailers.

We were already bummed and so we told them to go on ahead and at least make it to the dinner. Maybe we would drive up the next day in the car and visit with them or try to find a cabin. Well Clive offered his truck but we don't like borrowing things like that from people so we just started for home. By the time we got to Logan Clive convinced us to just take his truck for the weekend so we dumped the trailer off at Walmart and took him home. We then headed back, picked up the trailer and drove to Bear Lake. Mom and Stan brought us dinner from Pickleville because we couldn't sell those tickets. We ended up being able to sell at least one set of tickets to the show. I was SOOO sad I missed the show. I have been wanting to see El Banditos ALL summer!

Doran and I were signed up for the Mud vs Man Mud race in Logan that we had planned on going back down for but since we had someone else's vehicle we didn't want to take it down and get it muddy and gross. So we decided (regretting our decision) to just stay in Bear Lake.

Susette was going to be in Bear Lake running a Bear Lake Monster race. I had just remember what time it was suppose to start and looked over to the back of the campground and saw runners. I didn't know where the trail was going to be but thought I would run over and see if that was the race runners. As soon as I got over there look who we saw... After chucking her jacket at us she continued on up the road.

We went and had some breakfast and when we got done we thought we would walk on up the trail to see if we could find Susette. We had no idea how long it would take her or even if she already passed. So we just continued to walk on up the hill for about 2 miles I think and look who we saw again...
We ran the rest of the way with her. So fun!

Daddy and Susette continued on for a few miles more so Susette could get her insane "marathon training miles" in while I headed back to shower. After some lunch and rain Susette headed home.

We took a ride to Paris and visited the LDS Tabernacle. What a NEAT building!!
It seemed bigger than Brigham City's because it was more open in the middle. I wonder which one is really bigger? The balcony seats were really neat too. Instead of benches sitting on the floor they kind of curved...so wish I would have taken a picture.

We took a surrey ride too!! We thought this would be so fun! When we went to rent ours we asked about the rules to renting. Well they were rented out hourly. If we came back before the hour it was the same rate. If we wanted to stay longer then we would be charged for another hour. We have been running and walking. We were in shape. Doran and I could help out more if mom and Stan got tired. (We also worry a little about Stan's heart). Well here we are ready to go!!

Well guess who needed to puke first? ME!! I kid you not! After EIGHT minutes I. WAS. DONE!!
My heart was racing so hard, I was like CART/surrey sick!!
We didn't go much further before we turned around and headed back. Doran and mom did most of the peddling. Ugh!! Even though they look fun and easy to ride I doubt I will EVER do THAT again!

On to bigger and better things.
We took a ride up past "The Ranch". This (the ranch) is where my mom grew up and where I spent many of summers. We heard that it had changed hands again and that the wells had dried up so there was no water. We had to open a gate and get through and drive on up the road to the ranch. It didn't look like anyone was there but not sure if anyone was living there. But we couldn't get Stan to break in go check if the doors were locked. So we headed back down the road.
We stopped an took a picture of this old house somewhere along the way.

We went site seeing and visited some old cemeteries.

Then we stopped and had a picnic at one of Grandpa Snoopy's favorite places. Allred Flats in Idaho.
It was fun to reminisce on what type of things Grandma and Grandpa Snoopy used to do when they went camping.

Krandpa and I played with an old pump at the campground. You had to crank this a few times for the water to start coming out.

What a fun time we had with mom and Stan. I am so glad we were able to finish our trip even though we didn't get to go to Pickleville Playhouse.

Brigham City Temple Open House

We got tickets to the Brigham City Temple Open House for Saturday, August 25, 2012.
Cortney came up and we also went with Mom and Stan, and Bruce and Sharon (Stan's nephew).

What a BEAUTIFUL temple!!
One of my favorite things was the tile floor!

The painting were awesome also, especially in the baptismal font room.
There is a picture of Chief Washakie getting baptized.

The Brigham City Tabernacle is right across the street from the temple.

Lovely, just LOVELY!!

I can't wait to go inside again!!

July 4th Weekend/Chesterfield

For July 4th weekend we pulled our trailer up by Lava Hot Springs. We camped at a place that used to be called Mean Mary's...really. A lady named Mary used to own it and she was a very strict owner that wanted people to enjoy their stay but also INSISTED everyone kept the rules.
Well she has long since retired and I believe gave the campground to the Emergency personnel. Sorry to say that they do NOT treat the place as well.
They stack em' in where there is no room to roam.
But we did have a good time anyway.

On the night of the 4th we were able to watch the fireworks from our campground.

Aunt JoAnn, Mom, Stan
Best Friends
If you look up at the top you can see where they are setting up fireworks.
Doran is checking out some kind of critter moving up yonder.
Ready...Set...
Fire!!!

No, really....FIRE!!
The mountain caught on fire where they were setting the fireworks off.
We forgot all about the fireworks and watched the fire get bigger and bigger and then eventually got put out.

One morning daddy and I headed out for a run. We were trying for 6 miles so we headed north on a lonely road for 3ish miles and turned around and came back. I LOVE those kind of roads where there is almost no one around.

After we got back and had breakfast and a shower we all took a ride up to Chesterfield.
This was a fun building on the same road that we ran on.
Stan told us some stories about his place but because it was more than two weeks ago I can't remember what he said.

We made it to Chesterfield.

It is just a little community now. Mostly just a Visitor Town.
Most buildings are closed up and falling down but there are some still standing but are not being used or are museums.

This was a fun little store to go in.
It was a cute place to get some souvenirs.
I also bought an apron here that I used on trek.

This was in the church. It is the sacrament table and the water cups and bread plates.
They are so neat.

This is the house that his father grew up in.

This is Stan's Grandfather and Grandmother

His grandpa Denmark built the house.
His father, Isaac H Jensen, was born here.
I'm not sure when Isaac moved but he married Martha Call.
Here is the inside. This is not the same furniture but it is the era.
The couch behind him actually folds out in to a bed.

We even checked out the root cellar.

This is Stan's ancestors on his mother's side.
Stan's 3rd Great-Grandpa Cyril

2nd Great-Grandpa Anson

1st Great-Grandpa Anson Vasco

It was kind of neat to put a face to the names.
I wish I could do the same with my family.

These are some of the buildings still in pretty good shape.

What a great weekend we had!

Change

It seems like just a few months ago I was having these nightmares dreams about getting a new calling in the Relief Society Homemaking. I would wake up and tell myself that it was not going to happen. Our Relief Society President knew that I had a job that would only let me attend "homemaking" meetings for one more year.

Well I have officially been sustained as the Relief Society Meeting Committee Chairman...or whatever they call it.

Now stay with me here.
I am also serving as:
*Stake Women's Sports Director (gearing up for our busy season)
*Valiant 8 Primary Teacher (teaching every week)

And I work full-time.

Doran and I decided that there was no way I could do it all. I accepted the new calling if they released me from something else. So they will be releasing me in a couple of weeks after our Primary Sacrament Program. With the next week being the Brigham City Temple Dedication and the week after that is the Sacrament Program, I taught my last primary lesson yesterday.

Now for the fun part!

HELP!! Send me all your ideas!!
I would really like to make this fun!

When I was teaching the primary there were only a few children I had to please and entertain.
Now I will have MANY women with MANY different personalities and needs. We all know I will not be able to please them all but I can't wait to get to meet more sisters in the ward!!

Now where did I put my multi-tasking hat??

(Will someone please let me know why I have advertisments above my blog and why job and work is linked to something? I did not put them there.)

2012 Top of Utah Half Marathon

Here we go again!!!
I can't believe we are actually going to run another half.
Back to back.
This is SO not us.
But since last week's race was a spontaneous one and this one is a planned one, well....

I decided the night before that this is a

FUN RUN!
not a RACE

The wheels on the bus go round and round.
Dawn (my gym buddy) rode over to Logan with us and we caught the bus at O'dark-thirty.

I have crazy, wonderful, supporting, helpful friends!!

Susette (the running fool) was going to run this and I was hoping to run with her but knew that she has more stamina than me so we would see what happened.

Dawn was still uncertain a few days before the race whether she was going to do it or not.
She has been on the injured list and was just getting back to training. She hasn't even hit her double digits yet. Well she DID decide to run AND she said she would run with me.

Jen and I decided that we would run together also. She is faster than I am but she was going to help pace me because she has a FULL-trail Marathon the next week.

See....CRAZY friends but I am so grateful for them!!
Potty breaks all done and freezing before the RUN starts...wait...Susette is off "inspecting bushes".

We have now made it to the cattle corral starting line.

Ready...Set....GO!!
If you look real close between the pacer and the pink girl on the left you can see Doran in red.

Susette got was smart enough to be on the correct side of the road to get her mug shot.

I really don't know what I would have done without Jen and Dawn right by my side the WHOLE way!!!
They stayed with me, encouraged me and coached me.

Neighbor hood trouble friends

(Cheryl, Josh, Heather, Heather, Jen, Robert, Jody, Doran, Dawn, Jodi)

At the end we talked to my idol, Julia McCabe.  She's 81.  They had to create an age category just for her last year.  She started running at the age of 40, ran her first marathon at the age of 49, and has run over 140 marathons.  As she says, "it's never too late to start."  Seriously cool lady.  I want to be like her someday.

Doran 1:54:25
Jody 2:13:35
I LOVE this time together!!
