busy busy busy bee

Hello hello. It's been such a long long time. The last time I blogged, I still had to wear my fat marshmallow winter jacket out there and there was blardy snow out there. (Accuse my bitterness with snow, we had some crazy snowstorm last week which I was totally unprepared for...having attuned my body & wardrobe to the spring mode ever since I got back from Bahamas.) Now the weather's finally more humane just that I hate the non-stop drizzle today which spoils my suede red ballet flats. Hmpf.

I can't believe its almost been a month -- a month of mugging, all-nighters, activities, prelims, and all sorts of other blahness. Ever since I got back from Bahamas eons ago, I've been flooded by countless amount of work, and yes I'm surviving still albeit with bad skin to tell my story.

Well its the usual same old story with the academic aspects of life here...churning out papers one after another and preparing for all the Economics prelims. I'm finally done with all my small little obstacles for the semester; no more lil' tests along the way until the big final comes around in another 2 weeks' time. I've seriously been pushing myself to the limits with the 3-weeks in a row 3am bedtime thingy that now my body is conditioned to respond adequately with just 5 hours of sleep everyday. That excludes my performance during Econs stats class where I inevitably fall asleep or write intelligibly on my note pad. Aside from that, I've also been skipping lectures to finish up assignments in the library and the libraries have sadly become one of my favorite comfy spots around campus where I usually do a 20mins power nap snooze thing on bad afternoons. (which is practically every afternoon).

I'm proud that besides the economist/mugger/singaporean-malaysian labels I've given myself, I've added another one -- "human sex-trafficking activist" to the above list. Basically, I decided to devote the very little amount of free time I had to organizing a lecture where we had speakers coming down to talk about child-sex trafficking. These three words should never be used in the same sentence, let alone be a reality -- knowing that the usual studies-obsessed & vogue idolising me can do a 'lil something in the fight for social justice makes me feel good. to quote a certain miss singapore universe finalist: "Life is more than taking breaths" (so duh I can totally imagine the calibre of delegates this year) so i guess I did something meaningful rather than breathing in and out. Hmm.

Justice for Children International - Cornell Chapter

That week; organizing the conference, sitting for 2 prelims and other insignificant tests was declared as my most hectic week of the Spring semester. It ended off with ck's frat formal dinner at some dodgy hotel not worthed mentioning. But it way exceeded my expectations; I thought I was going to have to play the role at the subservient Asian girl among the sea of white brothers (again) but it wasn't really so bad after all. It was actually tons of fun, but as usual, I got into tons of trouble for over-committing and under-committing somewhere else.

Last week was Cornell's Fashion Week and I got to take part in the Cornell Design League as a model for my friend's creation. Wore her babydoll-empire cut -bohemian-purple-tuilip dress creation which went really well with the ang moh girls for being "cute". Haha. Life here is good. People think that I'm skinny and I get to wear XS clothes. Yeah and of course I know the that would change once I get back to Singapore amongst the skinny ah-lians. I was really excited about strutting her stuff on the walkway; but the best part was really getting to ogling at girls backstage ;) I spotted a Devon Aoki alike which I'm totally obsessed about now.

Somehow it would be great if i was the one who could come up with an entire showcase for the fashion show. My designs would be flirty and whimsical; chic and edgy ;) Yeah if only those adjectives could only be translated into a clothing line...how great would that be! Hopefully, if nothing goes wrong with my course planning, i'll be able to do all the fun arty not-very-practical courses like design drawing and photography by the time i get to senior year.

that's it for all the 'if only' thoughts and dreaming -- gotta get back to mugging and that enormous pile of work!
