Visit to San Angelo
I did it, and Devin did too!
Happy Anniversary to us!
Cute Devin!
Not the cutest picture of me, but you can see my big baby belly! Oh yeah, and I cut my hair before moving from Provo. Good choice, cause it only takes me a few minutes to do it now but I think it looks stupid. Oh well, good thing it will grow back!
We're Here!!!
We've made it to Lubbock, Texas! It is so flat here I can hardly believe it. There is a BIG difference between living in Provo at the foot of some monsterous mountains to being in flat, flat Texas. It is really fun to go on the freeway overpasses because you can see all around for miles and miles, sad to say but oh so very true! But I think that we're going to like it here a lot. Honestly, I have never met nicer people in my life. Even while talking to people about medicaid, the internet, house hunting, etc. everyone has been so nice. I have learned that being upset doesn't make time go by faster or get things done quicker. And that is one valuable lesson my friends!
Today is Devin's first day of school... actually it's orientation and his first day is tomorrow but he's still not here and I am. I think it's going to be pretty lonely around here but I plan on getting some good reading in (because literally the first thing we did when we got here was get library cards... what nerds!) and, if I can get the courage, plan to go out by the pool and catch some rays. I would swim but the pool here looks really sketchy which is a major bummer for me; I was really excited about getting to swim everyday. I have yet to see anyone in the pool which makes me even more nervous. Anyway, Texas Tech is beautiful! Seriously, BYU has the ugliest buildings in the history of campus's so this is a nice change. We walked around Devin's building and drove around the rest of campus and there are spanish tile roofs on almost every building, lots of beautiful Spanish-inspired architecture with huge cupolas and really amazing architectural details (yes, I realize that I sound like a nerd but I just got done with my architecture class like 2 weeks ago so it's all still fresh on the brain). But the campus is beautiful and the people are so nice and so helpful!
Some cool information about Lubbock... there are more church's per capita than in any other city of the nation and it's totally obvious as you drive down the street. Seriously, there are church's everywhere! We have church at 8:30 in the am and apparently that's not the most popular time to go to church because there were very few people on the road! Which brings me to another point, I can't believe how big the city is and how many people live here. It's like driving down University Parkway in Provo at 5 pm all the time. However, the speed limits here are 40 and 50 so people go a lot faster and traffic actually moves... what a nice change! There are also more restaurants per capita than in any other US city which is also very obvious when driving down the street. I'm happy to say that McDonalds is the closest restaurant to us down one road and Texas Roadhouse is the closest down another. I don't know what it is, but I love McDonalds! I haven't had it since we left Provo but it is like torture everytime I drive by and don't stop! I'm waiting for as long as I can stand it before I finally give in! And Texas Roadhouse... LOVE IT!!! They give you peanuts at the beginning to snack on and have really yummy meat! It's great! Whenever you make it to Texas (or Idaho Falls, cause they have one there too) go into Texas Roadhouse and enjoy the hot rolls and delicious steaks, you won't regret it!
So, we're starting to love Lubbock and are excited to be here for the next 4 or 5 years. Last night, all the master's students (all 8 of them) and their spouses (which included me and the other LDS guy's wife) went to dinner at Fuzzy's taco place. Don't get anything there but the chips and caso (wow, seriously amazing), if you ever go to Fuzzy's. Anyway, we all had dinner together which was nice so that I could meet these people that Devin will be hanging out with everyday for the next 2 years. They all were really nice and easy to talk to, which are important characteristics if you're going to be a therapist. Devin will fit right in and shoot to the top of the class rather quickly (obviously... he's so smart!) The girls in his class were all really excited to talk about the baby and they want to throw me a baby shower and have already volunteered to babysit... what sweethearts! But Devin is super excited to start school again and I'm excited to learn all the cool things that he's learning too! Yeah for school!!!
So I won't bore you too much longer but here's a baby update. Yesterday, we went to the hospital where I'll be having the baby and looked at the L&D floor and talked to some of the nurses and it looks awesome! We asked some of the nurses which doctor they would choose if they were going to be having a baby and they gave us a good list of doctors to choose from (which is what I need to get done today). The nurses were all older women which made me feel better somehow and they told me that they would treat me like their own daughter, which was super sweet and I believe them. I think it's going to be a great place to deliver and I'm getting very excited for this little guy to be here! We still haven't picked a name and honestly, I don't know that we will until the day he gets here. He's starting to move a lot which I love. I'm starting to be obviously pregnant, not just fat looking and that makes me feel better! I'm going to be 29 weeks tomorrow which I can hardly believe! That means that we've only got like 2 1/2 months to go, AHHHHHH!!!! I'm so excited!!!
Well, I think that's just about it for now. Here are some pictures of our exciting trip to Lubbock!!!
