Crazy Hair Day

3 boys with their "crazy" hair! (Does Levi look "less than thrilled"??)
Crazy hair day isn't very exciting when you have super short hair! About the only thing you can do is: color! So that's what they got.
Now you'll notice Vanessa is not in the picture. The one that really could have had some fun with this day, didn't want to have anything to do with it.
"Just put it in a ponytail, Mom. Nothing weird!"
Her hair is great. It has a mind of it's own. She sleeps with a silk head wrap for a reason. If we forget, it will be standing up in every direction. I mean, STRAIGHT UP!!!! She has pretty long hair and it looks like what mine would look like if I was hanging upside down but hers stays like that until we can coerce it down with a brush!!!

Big Sisters

Today I overheard Talish (almost 4) reprimanding Isaiah (just turned 2) for something that he had done and it sounded something like this:

Talisha: "Isaiah Nicole Peiffer, what did you do?" (that would be her middle name she threw in there)

Isaiah: Look of confusion on his face as to why she was calling him that strange
name, "No Ta-isha"!

Poor kid, home all day with 5 girls.

Never Know What Your Going To Get

This morning Levi was sitting at the counter, eating his breakfast. He got up and went into the bathroom and came back with a string of toilet paper. I was standing there, staring at him. I watched as he pulled some squares off and folded them in half. For the life of me I couldn't figure out what on earth he was doing.

He then proceeded to blow his nose right there while everyone was eating their breakfast!!!! I was speechless and I'm sure my mouth dropped open. Without skipping a beat, Levi said, "You owe me a buck". "For what?", I asked.

"For watching me blow my nose", was his reply.

I couldn't believe he didn't do that IN the bathroom!!!! I was speechless.

Hard Lessons In Life

Vanessa's "sorry" note (click on it to make it bigger)

Thomas' "sorry" note

Every so often in life, your children learn a lesson that you wish they didn't have to learn. Thomas and Vanessa had one of those experiences yesterday. They were playing in the play room with their friends. One of the friends had to use the phone and when they were done, handed the phone to Vanessa. They were all in a giggly mood and to be "silly", she dialed 911. Thomas grabbed the phone from her and in doing so, hit the "talk" button.

I didn't know any of this until about 2 minutes before the police car pulled into our driveway. The whole story started spilling out and I explained to them that their choices would result in a police officer coming to our house. This brought immediate tears to Thomas' eyes. He has a great respect for policemen and he knew how serious it was to have an officer come to your house without an emergency.

Sure enough, moments later the officer showed up. A tearful Thomas and Vanessa answered the door and apologized to him. Then they both went straight upstairs and started writing these cute "sorry" notes without any prompting from me.

I know they felt so bad. I was sad they didn't learn this lesson from their older brothers when they did the same thing a year or so ago. But I don't see them doing it again, so at least there was a lesson learned.

Done Deal!

Waiting and waiting for the Judge to arrive!

Yay!!! She's officially ours!!!

One sweet baby with her daddy.
Well, video hearings are the way to go! The judge was almost 40 minutes late, so we just sat there and stared at the empty room. Finally our attorney showed up (same one that we had with Levi almost 12 years ago!!) She said the judge was on his way and sure enough he showed up about 5 minutes later. Even then, that beats us flying to Florida, renting a car, showing up at the courthouse, spending the night and flying home!!!!
He looked over our portfolio that we had sent the agency last summer and said, "Wow Jasmine, it looks like you hit the jackpot!!" He asked us a few more questions and then said, "I would be more than happy to sign these papers!"
We said our thank-you's and that was it!!!!

Tomorrow Is The Big Day!

Tomorrow morning we will leave the house just after 7 to head over to our video hearing with the judge in Florida. He will be signing the Final Decree for our adoption of Jasmine. This will be a new experience for us. We have flown back to the state where the adoption took place for finalization, we have gone before the judge at our local courthouse for finalization, we have done it by proxy, we have done it by mail.....but video conferencing is a new one for us!
We are so excited to have this last step complete! With the 5 previous adoptions, we have never had any close calls or glitches along the way, but still in the back of your mind, you constantly worry and wonder if everything is going to proceed as planned.
Jasmine will be 7 months old on Sunday. It seems like just yesterday we were dressing her in doll clothes and wondering if she would ever fit into newborn clothes! She is just over 14 lbs. now and is really developing well, considering her very early start in life. She continues to be the most happy, pleasant. calm baby and it's very fitting that we call her our Angel.

Wrinkles....

Ok, ladies I have a question for all of you: What kind of facial cream/lotion do you use and are you happy with it? Does anyone have something AMAZING that they use on their face that seems to really help with wrinkles? I have always washed my face and kept it clean but when it comes to a good moisturizer, I have fallen short. I'm pretty picky about what goes on my skin as well, so it needs to be something fairly natural.

Feel free to comment away!!! I would love to hear what you use!!!!

A Night Of Dancing!!!

Ready to dance!

"Can we just go eat some dinner now?"

Whoa, partner! Save it for the dance floor!!!
We went to the Sweetheart Ball at the church Saturday night and actually had a great time! We tried out all our new dance moves that we had been taught the previous 2 weekends. There was an amazing turnout and it was so fun to see people that we hadn't seen in years!!! I guess that's the great thing about living in the same town that we grew up in!!
We had a nice quiet dinner out and then headed over to the church. The Jazz Band from Century High School came and played tons of oldies for us! They really did a great job. I was impressed that they were willing to give up their Saturday night to come play at some church dance! Very nice.
We left the kids at home with heart shaped pizzas and pink frosted sugar cookies.
Hope you spent Valentine's Day with the ones you love!!!

A Little Out Of Sorts......

So life is rolling nicely along and then BAM something happens to stir up the pot a little and chaos ensues! It started with the addition of our crazy, happy dog, Mike. We love him to pieces and thankfully, he has very good manners......but it's taking some time for 3 little ones to adjust.

Talisha took almost a week and then one day instead of running and screaming from him, she was following him all over and hanging on him to the point that we were constantly saying, "Leave that poor dog alone!!!"

Isaiah took about a day to warm up to him. Now they share everything: Mike's dog bed, Mike's water bowl (sooooooo gross!), Isaiah's food that suddenly "jumps" off his high chair tray onto the floor (where Mike is patiently waiting)...yeah, they have a great relationship.

It's just Savannah that is taking a little longer. At some point she will realize that Mike doesn't really care about her. He would much rather run and play with Levi and his friends outside than bother her. However if you leave a baby doll on the floor, he will gladly pick it up and play tug of war with you!!! Never a good plan, Mike. That Savannah has the heart of a mama bear when it comes to her baby dolls! She will wrestle you down and pry it from your slobbery jowls!!!

And then there are the sleeping arrangements: Jasmine was going to share a room with Savannah when she reached a certain age. Well, she's reached that age. The plan was to give Savannah's crib to her and Savannah would start sleeping in her pretty, new big girl bed now that she's 3!!! That went over like a lead balloon........

So we ended up getting another crib for Jasmine and letting Savannah keep hers until she feels comfortable parting with it. We're just hoping that's sometime before she's 12. :) Jasmine started sleeping in her new room but was fussy for a few nights, so not wanting to keep Savannah awake, we put her crib in Isaiah's room. That was a serious party!!!! We had to hang a blanket from the ceiling so they couldn't see each other, but then Miss Savannah got pretty smart: she just climbed out of her crib and into Isaiah's!!!

So back in her room she goes. Hopefully the two little girls will get used to sleeping with each other in the next few days and life will start to settle back into the routine I know and love. I tend to get a little out of sorts when my routine changes........no comments necessary from anyone who lives in my house!!!!!

It's a busy day, I need to decorate the house for Valentine's Day, make sugar cookies and make my Valentine cards for my sweethearts!!! Oh, and did I mention, take care of 4 little cuties, one slobbery dog and clean the house???? Oh to be a fly on the wall at my house today!!!!

Happy Valentine's Day!!!!

PURPLE BABY

**WARNING~ THIS POST CONTAINS DISTURBING IMAGES~ CONTINUE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

"PURPLE BABY"

PURPLE BABY IS BESIDE HERSELF WITH WORRY ABOUT HER HEAD

PURPLE BABY FEELING NOT QUITE HERSELF TODAY

Savannah has a baby that she loves. She takes this baby everywhere with her. She's had this baby for about a year. It used to have batteries in it that made it laugh and cry and move it's head. It was slightly disturbing as it would move and make odd sounds when it wasn't supposed to. It freaked a few of us out but she loves her "purple baby" and that's all that matters!
One day I took off her outfit to wash it and it turned out that the legs were sewn into the outfit, so when I took it off, her legs came with it! That was a very disturbing look. Anyway, the batteries have long been forgotten and she has just been a cuddling baby. Recently the head seemed a bit loose. Yesterday after nap, I went in to get her and her baby's head was hanging by a wire. That was bad but she still wouldn't give her up. Today after nap, the head was no longer attached. I think it's time to put Purple Baby in Savannah's baby keepsake box and move on. I really don't feel like paying another $20 bucks for a new baby, but how else can we replace this sad little doll???

The Apple Doesn't Fall Far From The Tree.....

Caught in the act!!!

Funny story. Last night Samantha and Sabrina were going to decorate a kid's front porch for his birthday today. They made some cute little signs and had some streamers to tape up. It was a little after 9 when Scott drove them over. Of course they were all dressed in black and trying to be really sneaky. The goal was to get in, get er' done and get outta there without being caught!

It started out ok, but then they heard his dog bark, so they hurried and finished and turned around to book it out of there. Unfortunately, Sam missed the step and tripped which in turn also tripped Sabrina. They were so scared of being caught, that they just picked themselves up as fast as they could and took off running for the car.

It was only a few minutes after they got home that Sam said she couldn't find her phone. She called it but didn't hear it anywhere, she went out and checked in the car but still no phone. It was about then that our home phone rang and this is the conversation that followed:

Sam: Hello

TJ ( the boy): Hey Sam, I have your phone

Sam: awkward silence followed by, "Uh, yeah"

TJ: I asked my Dad why the dog was barking and he said he didn't think it was anything but I told him I heard footsteps.

Sam: embarrassed laugh

TJ: So do you need your phone tonight?

Sam: Naw, I'll be fine until tomorrow. Thanks, bye

Scott, Sabrina and I were laughing so hard this whole time that I thought I was going to wet my pants. And then she told us the whole conversation over so we could continue the laughter a little longer.

I guess maybe one of these days I will have to post the pictures of my friend and I at Rick's College, decked out in black, getting ready to go cause trouble at the boys dorms........oh dear.

Birthday Kiddos!!!

Elmo!!! Savannah's cake

Cookie Monster!! Isaiah's cake

He was so excited to see the flame on his candles!

She was not excited to see the flame on her candles and blew them out as quickly as she could!

Isaiah tore into all his gifts with tons of enthusiasm!

Savannah gently tore the paper off of each of her gifts.

She had a very serious face on the whole time.

Isaiah loves his new vacuum and is ready to get to work!

"Move your feet Dad, I'm trying to vacuum here!"

Takes his job very seriously!
I know, I know...it's about time I post some pictures from their birthdays a week ago. Being born on the same day is great at this age! They are both into the same types of things. I'm sure in 13 or 14 years, it will be totally different but at this age, Sesame Street is the way to go!! Savannah got the Elmo cake and Isaiah got Cookie Monster! Doesn't get any easier than that!!!

Because My Life Wasn't Crazy Enough......

Meet Mike, the Boxer who thinks he's a lap dog...don't they all??

"Please no pictures, please!"

"I don't know what all the fuss is about...I'm just a cute little teeny, tiny boxer trying to get comfy on someones lap!

Meet Mike, the Boxer! We adopted Mike from our local animal shelter on Monday afternoon. The kids have been asking, no begging for a dog. We have a dog. Her name is Dundee and she is a Blue Heeler that we got as a puppy when we lived in Arizona. Dundee stayed in Kansas with Scott's mom when we moved back home a year and a half ago. She likes it there but we miss her terribly. She is getting old though and doesn't have the patience required in a house full of little ones, so I guess it's for the best.
Anyway, we had been checking out the shelter for a couple of weeks, waiting to find a good match. We finally found one that we wanted Scott to approve of before we brought him home. So on Monday afternoon, Scott and I went to check him out. The one we were going to consider turned out to have issues.....way more issues than we cared to take on. The kids and I had seen Mike and thought he was pretty cute but he's a Boxer and if you have ever had a Boxer you know they have energy! We ended up spending a ton of time with him in the play area and found he was actually a pretty good dog. He's got a few issues (don't we all?) but ones we could live with. We were pretty sure he didn't have a brain in that cute little head but after being here for a couple of days now, we have seen that not only does he have a brain, he knows how to use it!!! This pup is smart!!!
He's a very happy dog, Boxers always are and he is a people lover. We have learned very quickly that Mike does not want to be left alone!!!! He thinks he is a lap dog. He has got to be part deer the way he springs over gates and couches. He really loves to run and play basketball, soccer, catch, etc. Thankfully he is potty trained.
I'm sure there will be more pictures of Mike in future posts. I'm still trying to get pics of the birthday kiddos on here before the next birthday comes around.........

Ancestors

So having children that are adopted is always exciting. Today the kids have no school and it's a little busy, there are at least 4 different conversations going on and most of the time I have at least 7 people asking me something at the same time.

Today there was a conversation going on between a few kids about what they're "made of" for example: how much German we are or if we have anyone in our family from Ireland, etc.

I could hear Sam talking about what percentage of German/French we are. Then I hear Levi saying something like, "Ok, so I'm like 60% African and how much German?"

I had to laugh. It was so cute. The thought never crossed his mind that he wouldn't be part of whatever Sam was, they're siblings, right? We had to explain then that his heritage would be different since he joined our family through adoption and how fun it would be to trace his family history back and see what we could find!

I was thrilled to hear that comment. I never want any of my children to feel that they are not just as much a part of this family as anyone else.

Last night at dinner we were having Navajo Tacos (Indian flat bread with beans, cheese, tomatoes, avocado, etc.) There were two choices of beans: black beans or refried beans. We were going around the table asking each child what they wanted. Levi was first. He wanted black beans. Sam was next. She asked for refried beans. Levi turns to her with a very serious face and asks, "What are you, racist? Don't want black beans??" And then he flashes his big ol' grin and starts laughing. Only in our family would something like that be funny.....

Just another day in the life of the Peiffer family......

Our Newest 3 Year Old!!

We had a great time Saturday, celebrating our two birthdays and I will post pictures later. But I had to post this now before I forgot.

Savannah is still in diapers. When she turned 3 I figured we would start potty training. It's nothing I push and I always figure by then they are ready mentally as well as physically. On Sunday she told her nursery teacher that she needed to go "totty". And sure enough, they went to the bathroom and went "totty. Later at home, she had Talisha go upstairs and get her some Care Bear underwear while she went "totty". Her diaper was taken off and disposed of behind the bathroom door. Later when she was suddenly wet because she had forgotten about her underwear, (and none of the rest of us had any idea she was wearing it) she frantically announced, "Somebody change me!"

I have a feeling she will soon be wearing underwear full time with little help from me. She's a "Can-Do" type of girl and once she has in her mind what she wants, she really goes after it!

Sooooo Funny!

This morning Levi was teasing Tanner about something. He told him that if you rub your head with your finger, in a circular motion, 23 times in a row, you will die!!!! Tanner was freaked out and came running in to ask me if that was true!!! I was trying so hard not to laugh and explain to him that that could not possibly be true. And in trying to prove my point, started rubbing my head. Levi lunged at me, grabbed my hand and stopped me. "Mom", he shouted, "Do you want Dad to be a Manow????"

A what??? I asked. "A Manow", Levi repeated. "What on earth is that?" I asked him. "You know, like when a woman's husband dies, she's a widow, isn't that what you call a man when his wife dies????" No, no it's not Levi, but that is the funniest thing I have heard today!!!
