Melts My Heart

Sister Sister

I've been looking at this picture for a while trying to decide if there is anything I can see alike about these girls......

Noses, maybe???

I kind of don't think they even look related!! I've never been great at being able to tell who babies look like, so maybe that's part of the problem:)

Oh well, they sure are cute - in my totally biased opinion:)

Meyers's Orientation Day 2012

Meyers had Orientation Day yesterday at preschool. I debated getting a babysitter for Emery and decided to so that I could focus on Meyers. That, and it was during Emery's naptime. I bought this sweet dress from my friend Jennifer last year, and I couldn't wait for Meyers to wear it. I don't put her in long dresses for school, so this was perfect for the hour long orientation. When I got there, her teacher said, "we'll see you in an hour." I was so confused - last year, we stayed with them during orientation. Apparently when they are 3, you just drop them off. So I got an hour (not quite, more like 45 minutes or so) to myself that I was not expecting. Meyers did awesome and just walked on in to play. That is always such a good feeling.
Before we left for orientation - "watering" the flowers.

I have no idea what this face is for!

Or this one - I couldn't get her to smile for real!

She looks super distressed here.....but she wasn't:)

Dancing in the wind!

She made a beeline to the kitchen and the baby dolls when she got in the classroom.

I only got two not great (not correct settings and not looking at the camera) pictures of her in the classroom because I was in a rush and didn't want to be "that mom" that wouldn't leave the room:) I love her teachers! I am so excited about 3 year old preschool!!!

After I picked Meyers up, we went to lunch just the two of us. That doesn't always happen, and I'm so glad that we could have a mommy and Meyers date.

I can't believe how much this girl has grown up in a year!

Seven Months

Emery - You are 7 months old today!

As of August 9th (when we went back to the doctor for your cold that wasn't getting better and Meyers's fever), you weighed 18 pounds.

You are still in anywhere from 6-12 month clothing, and you are still in size 3 diapers.

You are still on the same eating schedule - 4 (8 oz) bottles at 8:00 am, 12:00 pm, 4:00 pm, and 8:00 pm.

You have been eating table food since we got the go-ahead from Dr. Catherine at your 6 month appointment. So far you've eaten sweet potato, squash, carrots, and avocado. You were not a fan of peas and green beans:) The pouches of baby food were starting to come out when Meyers had moved onto table food, so we never used them for her. Those might be one of the better inventions of the 21st century. So right now, you are eating the baby food pouches (we just squeeze it straight in your mouth) and table food. You are really good at getting food in your mouth. You get a lot in the chair, but you get a lot in your mouth, too.

When you were first born, I would have never thought that we could get in the car and drive around just to get out of the house. You are still doing WONDERFUL rear facing in your big girl carseat. So now when I've worked out and haven't had a shower and am not presentable to be around people, we can get in the car and drive around so we don't all go crazy inside:)

You still have the same sleeping schedule. You are normally up around 7:30 am (you will sometimes sleep in until 8:30 - love that!). You go down for your first nap around 10:00/10:30 and then you go down for your second nap around 2:00/2:30. You are getting your last bottle at 8:00 pm and you are asleep not too long after that. You are a good little sleeper, and have gotten back on your napping schedule except for the day Meyers has dance class and Sundays. You miss your morning nap those days, and you go down around noon then.

You are on the move!!!

  • You started officially crawling on your hands and knees just before 6.5 months (you were scooting and moving everywhere at 5.5).

  • You pulled up for the first time right at 6.5 months and you haven't stopped.

  • You attempted to cruise (maybe a few tiny steps) at almost 7 months.

  • You can transfer surfaces (not sure what the technical term for this is). For example, you can be standing up at the couch and take a step or two to turn so that you are standing up at the ottoman.

  • You are ROCKING our world in the movement department.

  • We still swaddle you at night because you love it and sleep better, but you get right out of when you want out. When we come get you in the morning, you are usually swaddled from the waist down standing in your bed! Craziness!

  • You can get into a sitting position and stay there on your own. That's just here in the last week or so. You were pulling up before you could get in a sitting position, which I think normally happens the other way around.

Some of your shenanigans:)

I think you will always be feisty, but you are settling down a tiny bit. I am actually loving this stage right now. It's so fun watching you explore and do more things. I am LOVING watching you and Meyers play together. That makes any craziness of the day so worth it. Your smiles are huge, and they melt my heart. You TOTALLY reach for me most of the time. That melts my heart, too.

 We ALL love you, Emery!

Busy Weekend

Meyers had a birthday party at Yolo yesterday. This is the second party we've been to at a yogurt shop, and I'm still convinced it's the best and easiest party idea ever. Meyers got to see some friends from preschool and MOPS, so she had fun, and I did too.

Her silly smile is because she's got her "lips" on. That girl loves some lip gloss!
Since John was home with Emery, we weren't rushed to get home. We went by a book store to get The Kissing Hand. Her preschool teacher wants the parents to read this to their kids before the first day of school. Being a teacher (in my former life) and a rule follower, I had to go right out and get it:) Meyers had so much fun at the book store. I used to take her there for story time, but that was a long time ago. She was so excited about everything she saw - especially this Baby's First Words book that we have at home that she used to read ALL the time. She liked the train table a lot, too.

We came home after that and she actually took a nap. When the girls got up, we bathed them and then rushed to Pottery Barn outlet to look for some sheets for Meyers. I think we are finally going to take the plunge and set up her "big girl bed". I'm still not ready, but John thinks it's time. She still loves her crib and has NEVER shown any signs of wanting out. We didn't find any sheets, but Meyers had fun pulling a rolly backpack around the store and hanging out on the bed there.

We left Pottery Barn and headed to John's grandma's (Nanny) 90th birthday dinner at Macaroni Grill. We got to see lots of his family and they got to meet Emery. We had to rush out of dinner since it was bedtime, and Emery was beyond over it. But it was great to celebrate Nanny's big birthday and visit with everyone.

Today we went to church for the first time in 5 weeks!!! Between John being out of town and the girls being sick, we haven't been in forever! Meyers got promoted to the big kid class - Wee Celebrate. I can't believe she's out of the nursery. I still haven't put Emery in, but it's time. She does normally nap around 10:00, but she was so active in church this morning. It's time for her to go to the nursery.
After church, we went to my parents' to celebrate my dad's birthday. Him and Nanny actually have the same birthday. Now we are home and Meyers is "resting"and John is getting Emery down, so I think I'm going to rest as well after our busy weekend!

Playdate

You never know when you meet somebody in 8th grade and when you're 19, that you'll still be friends with them many years later and love their children just like you do them. I feel truly blessed to still be close friends with several girls I've known for years. New friends are wonderful, but there's something special about old friends:)

Bryn (and Baby Cleck in Steph's belly) are missing out of this picture. It was the only one captured at our playdate today. I'm so glad Steph took this picture so I can look back when they are teenagers and probably cry because our babies have grown up:)

We had other friends here today, too - 9 kids and 5 adults means craziness, but it was so nice to visit with each other and love on each other's kiddos:)

Meyers's First Dance Class

I really do try and not "wish away" stages in my girls' lives. As fun as it is for them to do something new or experience something new, I try to remember that we will get "there" wherever there happens to be, and appreciate and cherish them in the stage they are currently in.

Not sure what this silly smile is all about:)

I have to say, though, that I have been dying to see Meyers in a leotard and dance shoes since she was probably hours old! I guess it's something about having a girl or the fact that I danced growing up, but I have been SO excited for her to start dance class. Most classes around here will not let you start until you are three. This class started this fall, so we had to wait until she was a little over three. I can not tell you how excited and how fun it was to buy her leotards, tights, and dance shoes. It was actually a strange feeling knowing that I have child old enough to go to need these things for dance class, but it was still super fun!!

Her first class was this past Friday. I was hoping to get a sitter to watch Emery since it's her naptime, and I wanted to be able to focus on Meyers, but that didn't work out. Emery actually did really well - for her - I did have to hold her the last thirty minutes of class. Geez - that girl is heavy:)

Emery loves her big sister!

Meyers is so not a risk taker and is a little shy when it comes to new things sometimes. I started to worry as we pulled up and she was saying she wanted me to hold her while she was in dance class. Yea - her dance teacher is super sweet, but I doubt that would be okay:) She has two friends that are in her class. They got there not long after we did, and Meyers instantly warmed up and started acting excited about dance class.

The moms could watch the class through the glass walls. It was so cute to watch them start out by stretching and running around the room. The ballet part of the class was first and then the last half was tap. Meyers loved the tap part. She was listening to the teacher and tapping when she was supposed to. I was giddy watching her. It was so stinkin' cute!!!

It is so fun to start "extracurricular" activities. This is her first "thing" to try.  I am excited for the rest of her lessons and she is, too.

It was so nice when we got home, that we played outside for a little bit. Emery LOVES the beep beep. And Meyers loves pushing her in it.

I can not remember (besides Emery's monthly pictures) the last time I used my real camera! I am so lazy! Since I took it to dance class, I had it on me, and I got a sweet picture of Emery in all her light eyed and light haired glory:)

Date Night

John and I went to dinner by ourselves last night, which was long overdue since he was gone for THREE weeks! My parents couldn't get over to our house until 7:30. We went to Jamie's first to get some baby toys that she was getting rid of. We didn't get to Elfo's until like 8:30! Dinner at 8:30??? It was like before we had kids and could go to dinner anytime we wanted - even the late hour of 8:30:) Dinner was so good - I don't know why we don't go there more often!
