Yesterday was the day that Emery (just a little over 21 months) decided she wanted to start climbing out of her crib.
Jesus, take the wheel!!!!
I am SO stressed about this recent development!!
We've been having some work done around here and every time she could hear the door open downstairs, she was climbing me like she thought they were coming to get her. It was 10:00 am at this point, and I had not eaten breakfast. I put her in her crib with some toys and ran downstairs to fix my breakfast. I was back upstairs in my room within a few minutes, and I HEAR HER DOORKNOB TURNING!!!!! I looked in the hall and she's walking out of her room happy as can be. I was shocked!!!!! I was hoping it was a fluke, and that maybe she had stepped on a toy to be able to climb out.
Naptime rolls around, and I removed all toys and stuffed animals besides loveys. I put her in the bed, and she was back out in the hall in a minute flat!! I took her back in her room and removed all bumpers and put her back in the bed. This time I stayed in her room to watch her, and she hiked her leg and shimmied over the side of her crib. Cue me completely freaking out at this point!
Obviously there was no way she was going to take a nap with her newfound skill of jumping out of her bed. I googled lots of solutions and was hoping to find something besides converting her crib to a toddler bed at 21 months, but the internet is all on the same page about babies jumping out of cribs. It means it's time to take her out of the crib. After googling, I knew I needed to get the bed jumping documented in pictures since we would convert it as soon as John got home. Priorities, right??? I put her in her bed and stood right beside it and took these pictures. They are kind of blurry, but you can definitely see my little climber's mad skills. Wild woman!!!! Future mountain climber? Pole vaulter??

She immediately loved her toddler bed!!

Meyers had a school program last night, so we actually had a sitter - ON THE FIRST NIGHT she was not in a crib. Oh the things you do differently with the second child:) Our sitter said she went down pretty easy considering the circumstances. We have used an Angelcare monitor for both girls. It detects movement and an alarm goes off if 20 seconds go by without any movement (it still amazes me how it detects a rising chest through a mattress!!) The alarm went off last night. When John went in there, she was still kind of asleep on the floor! Poor thing! He got her back settled and she slept until 7:00 this morning. So it was a pretty good first night, but I'm curious to see how naptime will go today. What am I going to do without my naptime - the small amount of time that I have most days so I can work out, do laundry, clean, start dinner, etc.?!?!?!
I'm like a million different emotions about this. Sad that my baby isn't in a crib anymore (side note: Meyers was in a crib until 4 months before she turned 4), scared for a 21 month old to be able to get out of her bed, depressed that I won't be able to contain her when she's going bananas or I need to get in the shower........ughhhhh! Her room is not unsafe, but it's not completely baby proofed. We need to tether her chest of drawers to the wall, move her monitor, lamp and probably more things that I haven't thought about yet.
Seriously! Jesus, take the wheel!
I fell asleep praying about this last night. I don't remember anything after asking Jesus to help me figure all of this out and to protect my sweet baby.
This is unchartered territory for us, and here's hoping the learning curve is short for us all!!
