Kindergarten

Meyers started kindergarten this past Monday. They had staggered entry so she went on Monday, was off Tuesday and Wednesday and then went back Thursday and Friday.

There were no tears from me (other than when I was reading The Kissing Hand to her the night before school started); I knew there would be none from her. She has been SO excited to start. I was so happy that the only two families I know with kindergarteners at her school are in her class. I've only been around her teachers briefly, but I loved them. They seem super sweet and a great fit for her. They do change classes for math and reading. Meyers will have her homeroom teacher for math and another teacher (that I got the chance to have a conversation with back in February during Meyers's school interview) for reading.

Meeting her teachers at orientation the week before.

Such an excited face!
Back to School Survival Kits for her teachers.
Opening a little back to school "happy" - a backpack for her American Girl doll.

She picked out this backpack and didn't waiver even when I tried to convince her that the ones on sale were SO much cuter:)

My mom gave me this idea and I'm going to try and stick to it - to write/type one thing about Meyers's (and Emery when she goes) school day. I remembered to put these in my phone this week.
7/13 - Meyers got to try "jitter juice"and take some to the office ladies to try, too.
7/16 - Meyers loved recess today and didn't like "thinking about getting on red" (even though she stayed on green).
7/17 - Meyers loved getting to go to the treasure box TWICE.

We have ALL adjusted to Meyers starting kindergarten. Meyers loves it and is so excited to go back each day, Emery (after crying about not getting to go yet) is enjoying being my "helper" by herself all day and I am actually enjoying getting up so early and my days are more productive. I haven't gotten up this early since I worked besides random days or getting up early with newborns:)

"The days are long, but the years are short" is something I have to remind myself often when I want to run out of my house screaming some days. Meyers starting kindergarten is a huge, in your face reminder to me of just how short the years are. John and I keep saying that we can't believe we have a kindergartener!! Slow down, time!!

Memorial Day Weekend

We left last Thursday after John got off work for the beach. It was so nice to be at the beach in under three hours! We are used to driving to the gulf so this short drive was amazing! Our neighbors, the Ainsworths, rented a house with us. I haven't been to an east coast beach since high school and remembered it very rocky and kind of dirty looking. The sand was definitely not like Destin or Orange Beach, but I thought it was fine - especially to be so close to home. We had a great time. It's nice to find an entire family that yours gets along with. John and Jeff work together, Rebecca and I are friends, and our kids get along well, too. We came home on Memorial Day, and again was just amazed at how close we live to the beach! We left around 10:00 am, stopped for lunch, and we were home before 1:30. It was a much needed, relaxing, fun, long weekend!

It was cool Friday morning, so we went to lunch and made a quick grocery run before heading down to the beach. My girls love Logan!

This girl loves playing in the sand.

Meyers wouldn't even put her toes in the water last year. She got super brave and got in this trip.

They loved attempting to boogey board.

Only picture I got of all four of us the entire trip!

Laying out like mommy:)

One day, all four kids napped on the beach. It was amazing!

just doing some ballet on the beach - no big deal

Making Reid play princess wands. Ha!

sweet face covered in sand!

I think she's wishing I would stop taking pictures with her looking into the sun!

sweet girls love the beach like mommy and daddy

We attempted to bury the kids and turn them into mermaids like we did last summer, but my artistic ability is not quite there.

We've lived in NC for 9 months, but we just had our first Cook Out on the drive home. It was delicious and should probably only be a once a year thing with the amount of calories we consumed:)

Meyers's Pre K Graduation

Meyers graduated from Pre K last Wednesday. Her school did a really cute little ceremony complete with cap and gown! Somehow I managed not to cry even though they played Pomp and Circumstance when they walked in and had a really cute slide show of the kids. I think part of it is knowing that we made the decision to start her late and do another year of Pre K this past school year. Our plan was for her to be in an actual 5T (5 transition) class back home, but we moved and I couldn't find a 5T here in the middle of the summer. So we did a second round of Pre K and starting late was the absolute right decision for her. Academically, cognitively, etc., she was ready to go to Kindergarten. We chose to start her late for her independence and maturity. I think the reason I didn't cry at the ceremony was because I know that she is so ready for K now. And I'm so glad I got to keep her "with me" for one extra year. Kinder - here we come!

How cute is her cap she got to keep?

John had to get back to work after the graduation, so we met a friend for lunch. We planned on going out to dinner to celebrate, but our pool opened on Wednesday. After swim lessons, we stayed at the pool until almost 7:00. She said that was much more fun than going to dinner:)

This year has FLOWN by. I can't believe we've been in North Carolina for a whole school year! And I can't believe how much these cuties have grown:)

Fun and Busy Weekend

Our busyness started on Thursday with recital rehearsals. Meyers's was Thursday and Emery's was Friday. The place where they hold the recital is like 30 minutes away so driving out there three days in a row was no fun. By Friday night, I was more than ready for a girls' dinner.

Sidenote: God sure does work in crazy ways. The very first people I met when we moved to North Carolina was Paige and her family and her best friend, Liz. Liz is my friend, Lauren's, sister in law. And Liz doesn't live in NC, but HER friend, Paige does. It's pretty confusing, but it was so nice that first weekend to be with people that already felt familiar because they know somebody you know back home. Paige and I get together probably once a month and I am often on a group text with Liz and Lauren. So when Liz was coming in town this past week, she made sure we all got together.

Liz didn't tell Paige I was coming with them to dinner. She just acted like they were casually coming by my house on the way to dinner, so that was fun. Liz had me pick a restaurant (Glenwood Grill), and I was happy that I picked a good place (it was on mine and John's list to go next) and that Paige had never been. When we sat down, our waitress brought us a bottle of wine and said it was from Lauren. And I started crying! I was blown away at how thoughtful she was to find out the restaurant we were going to and call and buy us a bottle of wine. I've got sweet friends and I miss them! Dinner was so fun and so yummy.

We took this picture for Lauren:)

On Saturday morning, we were up early for the recital. I signed up to be a backstage mom for Meyers's class. That was a lot more work, stress and difficult that I anticipated. They had two routines in the recital which meant a wardrobe change including costume, tights, shoes, bow, etc. They were really sweet, but we also needed to keep nine 5 and 6 year olds entertained between numbers with non messy activities. I brought pipe cleaners and beads for them to make bracelets with.

Right before Meyers's ballet routine to "Part of Your World" from the Little Mermaid. I hated to blur their pretty faces, but I don't know all of their moms well.

Right before their tap routine to "Sugar, Sugar". Our family has been singing and dancing to this song for a couple of months now. So fun!

Emery's creative movement (ballet) class danced to "Moving Day". I had never heard of it, but it's a really cute song.

I barely got pictures!  Emery sat with John for the first part of the recital, while Meyers and I were backstage. Emery and Meyers's classes performed almost back to back during the second part of the show and that was a whirlwind so that was a little crazy for me.
Do I look exhausted because I was after all of that? Ha! The girls did great and they had SO much fun "dancing at the big show" as Emery keeps saying.

Lunch after their "big show"

Emery took a pretty decent picture of us:)

Emery would not stop kissing Meyers at lunch:)
The girls (who don't nap anymore) and I took a 2+ hour nap after we got home! Then we hung out on our porch while John finished mulching. Since they napped so late, we stayed up late and watched the Little Mermaid with popcorn in the playroom. They think this is always super special:)

And a picture of our porch that we just finished decorating. We have LOVED this screened in porch (now that we have furniture) even more than we thought we would.

We went to church Sunday morning and then lunch. I wanted the girls to take a picture with me because they are wearing tops that were dresses that they've been wearing for 3 years. I get so excited about that! But E was super grumpy and didn't want to cooperate. So me and Meyers took one together.

Here are the girls at 3 years and 4 months wearing them:)
