We took a trip to Nauvoo, Illinois this past weekend. Grandma Burton had never been there, so we thought it would be a great time to go. The kids actually did quite well throughout the trip and we were able to enjoy the historical sites for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
The boys are standing by a statue of the prophet Joseph Smith.
Ethan, Grandma, and I were all able to take turns and go through a session at the temple, while the kids enjoyed playing outside
The humidity and heat definitely made us grateful for air conditioning!

The Nauvoo Temple
We were able to watch (most of) the Nauvoo Pageant. It was a wonderful production of how the early church saints were able to have enough faith to come to Nauvoo and build the temple.
We are standing next to the grave site of Joseph Smith and his family.
We also went to Carthage Jail, where Joseph and Hyrum Smith were martyred.
This is the window that Joseph Smith fell out of and into the mob that shot him.
The bullet holes are still in the door...
We also went through the little village homes and saw a lot of demonstrations. In this picture, we learned how they used to make the bricks for homes and other buildings. It was quite a process!
In the print shop, we learned the time consuming process of how they printed a newspaper.
Among other places, we visited the gunsmith shop.
We enjoyed the sunset on the temple grounds and tried to catch fireflies for Grandma!
