A Weekend in Nauvoo

We took a trip to Nauvoo, Illinois this past weekend. Grandma Burton had never been there, so we thought it would be a great time to go. The kids actually did quite well throughout the trip and we were able to enjoy the historical sites for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

The boys are standing by a statue of the prophet Joseph Smith.

Ethan, Grandma, and I were all able to take turns and go through a session at the temple, while the kids enjoyed playing outside

The humidity and heat definitely made us grateful for air conditioning!

The Nauvoo Temple

We were able to watch (most of) the Nauvoo Pageant. It was a wonderful production of how the early church saints were able to have enough faith to come to Nauvoo and build the temple.

We are standing next to the grave site of Joseph Smith and his family.

We also went to Carthage Jail, where Joseph and Hyrum Smith were martyred.

This is the window that Joseph Smith fell out of and into the mob that shot him.

The bullet holes are still in the door...

We also went through the little village homes and saw a lot of demonstrations. In this picture, we learned how they used to make the bricks for homes and other buildings. It was quite a process!

In the print shop, we learned the time consuming process of how they printed a newspaper.

Among other places, we visited the gunsmith shop.

We enjoyed the sunset on the temple grounds and tried to catch fireflies for Grandma!

July Happenings

I'm hopeful that Ellie will want to go potty like a big girl more often...

We've enjoyed picking and eating vegetables from our little garden that include carrots, peppers, green onions, green beans, zuchinni, pumpkins, cherry tomatoes, and radishes!

Audrey is getting used to her mama taking alot of pictures...

3 Weeks

Audrey has grown SO much in the last few weeks. I've even caught her giggling and smiling in her sleep. She loves to be held, and is very alert. She is really strong and can hold her own head up well. She will turn to look at things and people, and where noises come from. She's giving her mama smiles!

What We've Been Up To...

Grandma Burton has helped the kids make fun foods like shark and flower pizzas, octopus hotdogs, cookies, etc.

Our membership to Greenfield Village is going to expire, so we ventured out a couple times. Daddy came once, and the other time we got totally drenched in a sudden downpour thunderstorm and had to wait it out in one of the machine shops...

4th of July

We had a nice, low-key evening. We lit off a few fireworks with our neighbors, the Kriegs, then watched a ton of fireworks in the backyard that surrounding neighbors lit. The kids were SO excited to hang out so late that night. We miss being with the rest of our families, but it was nice to relax at home.

Bathtime

Grandma Burton gives the best sponge baths when my babies are first born!

Audrey looks a little like Xander when he was a baby.
A friend from the neighborhood made Audrey this diaper cake...

At the Hospital

Here are a few more sweet pictures of baby Audrey:
Audrey's siblings enjoyed the little birthday cupcake the hospital gave her...

Grandma Burton spent an afternoon with us at the hospital...

Did I mention that Audrey is VERY active? She rolls to her side already!

Mom and baby...

 The proud siblings:

Ellie is extremely happy. We're REALLY going to have to watch her around Audrey.

Audrey had to go under the lights for a bit of jaundice:
