I really do have pictures to post on here. But a quick update on the potty training... so far so good! Minimal accidents, however he still only poos in his underwear. He's a bit constipated right now too, so it makes it harder to learn. He's trying to do it on the toilet, but it's too difficult. All I can ask is that he try. Poor guy. I read in my potty training manual (yes, I've resorted to self help books... hush) that sometimes kids get constipated under the stress of potty training. I'd hate to think I'm stressing him out, so I've backed off big time on the poo part, just hoping he decides to do it on his own. He still doesn't get diapers though. Not even at night anymore. Pull ups for now at night until we run out, and then he's going to the plastic pants... sorry buddy.
He did excellent at the reception! He was, of course, the life of the party. No one loves a party like Aden does, and if there's cake then BONUS! He went int the public potty five times while we were there, and loved it actually. I think because he looked at it like an adventure. He did announce to everyone in the restroom what he (and I) were doing - to everyone's amusement. Even mine, I have to admit. It really made me feel better about this switch though to get through a night like that successfully. The potty road from here looks good!

Potty Training Update

Guerilla Potty Training - Day 3 of 14
Well, a quick update. So far this potty training experience has been working! We have only used one diaper a day for the past three days, and that was to sleep in at night. Soon, I'll make him sleep in the plastic pants, but he really hates those things.
Only a handful of accidents have happened, and even those were minimal. He took a nap today in the plastic pants and woke up dry!
It's Saturday, and he's been in underwear since he came home from grandma's house last night though and no poop. I guess he's holding it in. I'll update more when we have a development on that. I'm not quite sure what tactic to take. I gave him some fruit with both breakfast and lunch, and then applesauce for an after-nap snack. With all that, he won't be able to hold it in for long.
We are heading to a wedding reception later tonight. Aden will be in plastic pants. And he will be going on about 24 plus hours without pooping. This should be interesting.

Potty Training - it's not for sissies.
Months ago, Aden was showing real progress. He started peeing on the potty pretty regularly at home and at school, and after going days with a dry diaper, the school told us to start bringing him in underwear. Hooray! It looked like our days in diapers were numbered, and we couldn't be more pleased that we wouldn't have two children in diapers at the same time.
WRONG. Aden's hang up is that he won't poop in the potty. He can't give a reason why. We've asked. He isn't afraid to, or having separation anxiety over it. It isn't that he doesn't know how. It's just that he flat doesn't want to. And no one can talk this child into doing something he has set his mind not to do. Aden invented stubbornness.
So the frustration everyone has had over Aden pooping in underwear and refusing to do it in the potty has brought him back to diapers, which in retrospect was not the way to go. He regressed... we got lazy... potty training went back on hold.
An incident at the school this week has brought potty training back to the forefront. One of the teachers lost a package of diapers we brought. After questioning where it could be, we brought another package, only to be told two days later that Aden was nearly out of diapers. I called the assistant director. It's a recession people, I can't afford three packages of diapers for school in one week. She was very apologetic and said the school would replace the two packs of diapers. But that got us discussing his potty training. Neither of us could understand what had happened to make him regress. After a bit, we came up with a plan. The school bought him the plastic covered underwear instead, and they were on a two-week mission to get him fully trained. She was going to talk to each of his teachers and apparently now there's a special set of rules just for Aden.
Obviously, you can guess that this has not won me any friendships with the teachers. In fact, the first day of this grand scheme, all three teachers completely ignored me when I picked Aden up. No updates from them on his progress, however the assistant director (who is personally overseeing Aden's training now) told me that he was dry all day with the exception of a small accident during nap.
So, it just might work. I don't have high hopes just yet. We've convinced ourselves now that we will have two kids in diapers at the same time. That will just be our reality. We were inexperienced at this and had big dreams months ago, but now we know better. And the poop update? Well, Aden holds it all in at school and then pooped three times in an hour and a half (in his underwear) as soon as he got home. I didn't go back to diapers though. I am holding my ground on the underwear during the day. So my new reality right now is cleaning lots of poopy underwear. Motherhood is so glamorous.

Ethan Update
Well, I'm in my third trimester now, and still feeling great! Sleeping has been a little tough, and my back has been sore from the added weight. But otherwise I'm doing great. I had bloodwork done at my appointment this week. The dreaded "Orange Drink" test. I'm happy to report that all tests came back with wonderful results! The doctor listened to Ethan's heart beat and measured him and all signs point to a very healthy baby. I am so happy!
Aden has really been understanding more and more about his upcoming brother. He knows where his room is, which clothes are his and tells anyone who asks now that his brothers' name is "Effan." and "Brother." The other night, he even laid his head down on my belly and sang "Rock-a-Bye Baby." It was very sweet. I can't wait to see how their relationship grows throughout their lives.
So, I have another sonogram in 5 weeks and at that point I'll know if he's on track to be a big baby (like Aden was) and we'll also be able to schedule a date for my c-section. Yippee! Stay tuned for official details on Ethan's birthday!
