Monkey See, Monkey Do

Ethan has started a stage now where he will mimic us more and more. Stick your tongue out at him, and he'll stick out his tongue at you. If you say "ah" with your mouth wide open, he'll do the same thing.
The "copycat" behavior is also helping him learn to do more refined movements. For example, after watching us put the square block in the square hole in his toy kitchen, he follows suit. I'll draw with a crayon on a sheet of paper and he scribbles a line!

We're learning body parts too. He's got the "where's mommy's/daddy's nose?" down - we only have eyes, ears, mouth, and wallet left to go.

When I Grow Up

Ever since Ethan was born, there has been speculation as to his future vocation. Even though we're at least 15 years from his first job it hasn't stopped us from imagining him in different jobs.

For example, his interaction with Maggie could help him be a vet (or dog wrestler):

Or, based on the time he's spent analyzing the contents of the fridge, he could be a chef or food critic:

Of course, he loves his little red car. There's a chance that he could work on cars, or even be a race car driver (I'm sure his mom would love that)!

Like his dad, Ethan cries when he swings a golf club. If he practices now, though, he can support us with his golf tournament winnings!

On the other hand, Ethan has several engineers in the family. So Ethan's fascination with tools could steer him in that direction too.

Keep an eye out for more profession predictions. There's still plenty of time to figure this stuff out!

Going From Push to Pull

Ethan has really taken to this whole "walking" thing.

While he was initially learning to walk, he was pushing all kinds of stuff: his John Deere tractor, toy hippo, kitchen chairs, etc. But now he's transferred to pulling stuff instead. He'll grab the things he used to push and now pull them around. This makes for some funny scenarios (imagine pulling around a kitchen chair...).

And Uncle Kevin, being the extreme engineer he is, created a pull-toy for Ethan based on the sheep theme for his room. Now Ethan is finally able to pull it around behind him (instead of just sitting on the floor and yanking on the rope).

13 Months Old!

Lucky Thirteen.
Today Ethan turned 13 months old, and we have officially reached "toddler" status.

The little dude is full of energy. Almost every day, after spending the day in school, he comes home and plays outside with his new neighbor friends. And when I say "play" I mean "walking awkwardly around the cul-de-sac no where near where the other boys are playing."
He has gotten to where he hardly crawls at all and much prefers to walk. And while falling on his rear is not a rare occurance, he just gets right back up and keeps going. And I think the extra padding in the diapers help too!

Hey Mister, throw me some beads!

Over the weekend, we headed to Louisiana to enjoy some cajun food and load up on Mardi Gras beads. Ethan ended up with the best loot. We were worried that he was going to be scared by the loud sirens and music or be pelted in the face with beads. But he LOVED the floats with their loud music.

Ethan's Mardi Gras Goodies:
6 stuffed animals
the coolest necklace (gold beads with a rubber ducky!)
a tiger hat from the LSU float
and lots of beads

By the end of the night, Ethan was waving to the floats, charming all the float participants.

eating King Cake with Auntie Morgan
waiting patiently for the parade to start
not too interested in his tiger hat
showing off his cool rubber ducky necklace - look at all those beads!

Moving Day Pictures

Looking back in our camera, it became apparent that with all of the hubbub of the move, I completely forgot to take pictures to mark the occasion! I guess playing "moving traffic cop" took my attention away from documenting everything.

Thankfully, Uncle Kevin found time between boxes and dumping bird bath water on himself to snap a few pictures.

Back at the old house, Ethan helped pack up some boxes in his room:

Ethan and GP take a picture in front of his old closet. After all of that work in the nursery, it was sure hard to leave!

Ethan takes a last look at the sheep on his wall with Poppy:

And once we got to the new house, it sure didn't take Ethan long to get settled in to watch some Aggie basketball!

So we're still unpacking now - slowly, but surely. Thanks again for all that helped and all that offered to help! It was appreciated more than we said!
