2013-14 School Year

And... finally it was the first day of school.  :)

Lexie had to be to school at 6 am for Drill practice, so... this was taken AFTER school. :)  You have to catch her when you can.  She is a busy girl.  This year, Lex started her Sophomore year at Layton High School.  Go Lancers!

This was a BIG year for Jackson.  He started 7th grade.  It was quite a bit for him to process AND it was his birthday so that made the day extra hard.  Who wants to go to the first day of school on your birthday!  Simply cruel!

From Instagram:  Oh myyyyy... I have seriously thought about this day since he was born. Jr. High can be brutal. In a way, I felt like I was throwing him to the wolves. Never before have I dropped him at a curb. We went to orientation, found his classes, and practiced his locker combination. Nothing else for this momma to do but send him on his way. After all, moms CAN'T GO in with you on the first day of 7th grade. Not cool. I'm sure we will have some bugs to work out, but I hope this will be a GREAT year. Plus.... IT'S HIS B-DAY TODAY! Happy 13th birthday Jackson. You are one amazing kid!

Collin started 4th grade.  He was so excited to be out of French and he landed one of the best teachers, Mr. Reeve.  We had high hopes that it was going to be his best year yet!

Izzy started 2nd grade with Mrs. Arnell and Mdm. Hassell. We had a break through - no tears the first day.  Way to be strong, Izzy!

2nd grade.... When I was doing her hair she said, "Mom, I'm not going to cry this year". Then, when I was walking her down the hall to her class she said, "I'm not crying, I just accidentally poked myself in the eye so my eye is just watering.". When she found her desk and sat down she was all smiles. She is either a GREAT actress or is excited to be in school. Maybe it is a little of both. :). So proud of this little minute for conquering her fear. Love you Izzy Busy!

Our Dopp crew at school is shrinking.  With Jackson leaving, we are down to five Dopps.  Next year adding Tolly will balance Ari's departure. :)

Do you like Collin's red vans?  When we were school shopping, they were his top priority. :)

After school, we continued our tradition of grabbing a Yogo Togo Frozen Yogurt to celebrate the day.  Jackson was teary when we picked him up.  It was a long day for him.  He was sad he had to spend his birthday in school and that the other kids had early out and beat him home.  Life can be so hard.  But... after we had our yogurts he seemed a bit better.  We went home to celebrate his big day with cake and presents.

Happy Birthday, buddy.  This year you turned 13!  It has been quite a journey for all of us.  We are so proud of you for all of your accomplishments.  You have to work hard every day to keep your world stable.  Some days are easier than others.  As much fun as this life is, I'm really looking forward to the day that you are free from the limitations of this life.  You have such a strong spirit.  Your mortal body hinders you in so many ways and clouds your mind.  I'm proud of you for all you do to make progress.  You have come so far and I know that in the next 13 years you will make great strides as a young adult working his way to adult life and independence.  We love you Jacks!

And... as a bonus, here is a pic of Jackson and his / Ryan's :) Science Fair Project from 6th grade.  He tried to identify the best recipe for GAK. :)

Since Ryan was out of town, we tried to end the night on a good note by going out to dinner.  It was SO nice to see so many smiles.

The REAL Game

In the summer, while most kids were enjoying the break from school, Lex and her team were hard at work.  They had practice at SIX in the morning.  It was necessary if they were going to beat the heat since the school didn't have air conditioning.  In addition to learning all of their routines for the year, they had the chance to perform a routine they learned at camp for a SLC REAL Soccer Game.

The girls caught the team bus early in the morning.  They spent the day practicing at Jordan High School in SLC.  They also were given their Lancelle Jackets that day after practice.  It was official.  They were a team.

Sorry I cut Alix out of this next pic. :)

We were smack dab in the middle of summer and boy was it HOT at the game.  But, luckily at half time, the sun started going down and there was finally shade.

Girls from all over the state participated in the event.  It was a powerful sight to see them all entering the field.  Whenever there are that many dancers in one place, we always joke, "Think about all the money that was spent to get them there; lessons, costumes, recital fees, travel, etc."  Dance is not an inexpensive sport, but it is so much fun to watch.  I love watching the girls express themselves through dance and seeing their self confidence grow.  As long as the girl loves dance, it is money well spent!

Lex has two great coaches.  These ladies love the girls with all their hearts.  They put so much time and effort into coaching them.  The girls value them in their lives and can feel of their love and concern.

And... since this blog is totally out of order, I'm including some of Lexie's Lancelle pics in this same post.  She is lucky to be part of such a great team.

Izzy's 7th Birthday

In addition to the 4th of July, the month brings us Isabella's birthday.  In 2013, she turned SEVEN.  These pictures perfectly describe our happy girl.

She loves her cat, Mrs. Fox.  She loves activity.  And, she loves being with the family and the center of our world.

Izzy got just what she wanted for her birthday; a tummy stuffer pillow and an Orbie's light.

After she was done opening her presents, the cat had a great time making a nest in the wrappings.

I found a great deal in the summer for school clothes.  Lex wanted to do a fashion post on children's clothes and recruited Izzy to model some of her new closet.  Since this post is all about Izzy Busy, I thought I would share them here.  I love the different expressions they captured.  We are so lucky to have Isabella in our family.  I love her tender heart, her sensitivity, her playful sass, and her girlie girl sass.  Now we just need to refine it all before we unleash her on the world. :)  She can be quite a force of good. :)

2013 Fourth of July

I'm catching up. :) :)  Kinda.

This year's fourth of July was a bit different than most.  With Lexie attending Layton High and being a Lancelle, we actually had to attend our own town's parade. :)

We found a shady spot and were pleasantly surprised we weren't overwhelmed by crowds.  I did have to claim our spot the night before, but in these parts that is all part of the fun.

All of the Lancelles met at the start of the parade route.  The girls ran through their military parade routine (thus the angry faces) and then it was time to go.

After dropping Lex off, we headed over to our shady spot.  Grandma and pa Dopp and Nikki and Clint were so nice to come and support Lexie.  In a lot of ways, we felt like we were defecting from the neighboring city.  But, in the end, it was still fun.  We knew a lot of kids in the parade and it was fun to see them do their thing.

Jackson and Col didn't seem to mind our new surroundings.  Izzy was around there somewhere.  I'm sad I didn't get a picture of her.  If I were betting, I'm sure she was on Grandma's lap. :)

I hesitate to insert this picture in the blog.  But... since this is our family record, I gotta.  See those glasses?  Sadly I had to wear them for TWO weeks.  It was torture for me.  But, the pain was worth the gain.  I was prepping for my eye Lasik surgery.  I had to tell myself, "This is worth it!  This is worth it!"  And, it was.  I love not having to worry about my contacts.  I just hope the results will last for at least ten years.  I'm afraid I'll be using reading glasses sooner than I would like.  Getting old kinda sucks. :)

Two of Lexie's cheerleader friends from last year are LHS Cheerleaders.  It was fun to see Krystal and Aspynn.  It was kind of weird to see them in high school cheer uniforms.  These girls will be graduating before we know it.

And finally, it was the Lancelles.  We're so proud of Lexie and her accomplishments and hard work.  The team puts in an enormous amount of hours and effort.  It shows.  They are great at what they do and Lex loves almost every minute.  ;)

Lex is the second one in toward the middle.

The bad thing about blogging so many months later is that the details aren't very fresh.  I think we went to Grandma's after the parade.  We also switched it up and went to LHS fireworks with Lex.  Their show was impressive. But... if we do it again, we need to find a better spot.  We didn't love where we were sitting.

All in all, it was a fun holiday.  We love celebrating our freedom and our beautiful country.  We are so blessed.
