Can I not keep up on my blog like I used to? I don't even post much on Instagram anymore. I rarely sit down at my computer to look at blogs, websites, email, etc. That must be the problem. My hand-held device has made me lazy:)
Kennedy was inducted in the National Honor Society and it was a very special afternoon. The guest speaker was second to none (I can't remember his name sadly) and very inspirational. He referred to God throughout his speech and focused on serving others and having a purpose. How refreshing!
Leighton was selected for regional choir again this year (he had to sing a solo and try out) but his voice has changed to bass where last year he was a tenor. I know the voice changes happen but I'd really like those soft cheeks to stay around for awhile. #oneoftheseisnotliketheother
The twins wrapped up another season of basketball and gave their coach and team a run for their money. They fought and argued every game and yelled at each other. It was completely embarrassing. Some parents watched with wide eyes and took in the show. On a couple occasions I was ready to drag them off the court or go kick them in the booty (I may have used another word during the game). Leighton displayed quite the temper and even bounced the ball pretty hard at the ref. You know what the referees did most of the time? Chuckled. They thought the twins were hilarious. Heaven help me. They will not be playing on the same team next time, if there is a next time. All of this has prompted me to consider giving them their own rooms (they don't get along at home either half the time) which means getting a house with more bedrooms! Crazy I know. Eric also works out of our bedroom so an office for him would be fabulous. What to do? What to do? Weather the storm I suppose.
All the boys in our house look forward to Father's and Son's and all the girls in the house look forward to it too. It's a win-win. They loaded up the back of Eric's truck for one night and headed where else...
to Rudy's Barbecue of course! Most dad's were planning a dinner around the campfire. Not Eric. This is how they like to do Father's and Son's. They did eventually get to the campsite and got completely drenched because "someone" forgot to tie down their rain tarp. Their gear spent the next day on our lawn drying out. The boys friend Joshua eagerly came along for the adventure.
Our final pinewood derby. Boston made a Friendswood 45s car (his baseball team). Eric is really good about letting the boys do most of the work. Boston received the award for most sporty (same as last year). This smile is pretty fake because he was ticked that he didn't win AGAIN! We've never won. Why start now:)
Another reason I am a slacker in most areas of my life, is my cookie business. I have consistent business now and anytime there is a holiday, you will find me baking and frosting all night long. During Valentine's I think I slept about 6 hours the week leading up to it.
Like the twins, Boston has been playing basketball. He moved up an age group and had fun but was challenged. He got tossed around the court a little more than he is used to. I told Eric it was time to sign Boston up for football because he needed to be toughened up. Baseball gets you mentally tough but physically it's not near as demanding as basketball or football or soccer or lacrosse or most sports for that matter. We will see if football is in the cards in the fall.
Our new dryer broke so Eric and I spent date night at the local laundry mat. Eric really chips in and does his part at the laundry mat. Interesting. We went for a yummy Indian dinner afterwards. Didn't want you to think we were that hard up:)
The twins joined Joshua and his mom for a party and parade in Galveston for Mardi Gras. The boys said they said lots of people drunk and smoking. They had to leave before the beads were thrown and were pretty disappointed.
Boston's Valentine box is in honor Derek Jeter, The Captain. I told him maybe he could add something Valentinish and he wouldn't have it. We whipped up these Valentines to hand out to his classmates and he was fine with that.
His poem was right in the middle of the tree at school so we had to document it.
We have arrived! Eric and I left early on a Saturday morning and returned late Sunday evening. Kennedy held down the fort at home and everyone survived! We met Ashley and Mark in New Orleans and had a blast! Cheers to Freedom! (at least for one night)
Cafe Dumond - highly recommended for it's beignets (similar to scones).
Bourbon Street didn't disappoint with it's night life. Just what I imagined. Street of drunk people doing dumb things:) Luckily we weren't drunk and weren't doing dumb things (at least in comparison).
This girl was exchanging shots with the men she would lure in. Mark and Eric just observed in dismay (or awe).
Mark wanted to have his palms read. He needed to know if there was a boy in his future (they have 4 girls). Pure entertainment and bull *%#@ if you ask me. Mark was hamming it up.
The things you see hanging in windows (in New Orleans). Mark tried it on for size.
This picture doesn't capture it but Eric carried around a snot rag all weekend in his back pocket and used it frequently. Even Mark was grossed out.
We went on a swamp tour on an air boat and got a good taste of Louisiana. It was pretty cool. Our guide reminded me of my brother in law, Matt. He's holding a tiny alligator that he left us all hold (except me, I didn't want to touch it).
These two were singing and entertaining everyone around us the whole time. Eric's go to song, "Love it in the air..." So. much. fun!
Eric hacked my Facebook page and did a birthday post with this saying. It's true:)
Kids wanted to surprise me with my birthday gift. They purchased and eventually hung outdoor lights over the patio.
Kennedy put this awesome family collage together. She did all this while we were gone to New Orleans.
We went out as a family to my favorite - Grimaldis. It just opened 10 minutes from our house. It's divine!
Boston's basketball team
Kennedy competed in a regional solo competition and sang an Italian song. She scored a 1 and surprised her choir teacher with her beautiful voice (a 1 is the top score). She has only sung in the choir prior to this so her teacher hadn't heard her voice all alone. She has big plans for her next year:)
Leighton and Jackson are participating in track and both throwing the discus. So far Leighton is the only one that has made the meets because you have to compete with all boys from the school and whoever throws the farthest in practice gets to compete at the meets. Leighton got 4th place at the meet this week.
Trek is coming up (March 13-16 over our spring break) and while denim isn't allowed, Jackson couldn't resist these overalls when they were out shopping for their trek outfits. Outside, the picture looks like he has some serious muscle. Inside, he still has muscle just not as prominent. I have a picture of the twins when they were 1 in overalls and no shirt and I just might have to break it out for the 14th birthday post. Stay tuned...
