A Friday Afternoon

Josh is a very sensory orientated child. On Friday he wanted to smell all of the spices in his mom's cabinet. He would run back and forth across the kitchen bringing me spices that we would smell and then he lined them up on the counter. These pictures only show about half of what Mandy has. There were 70 in total. It was a fun activity and it took about two hours to go through all of the spices.
There were a few that weren't ground and were still in the whole form that I didn't know what they were that Mandy didn't have labeled. Josh and I went on a hunt to find pictures of the spices on google. I now know what cardamon and nutmeg look like whole.

And since she is so cute here is a picture of Vivian being her happy smiley self.

Dress Upcycle

A few months ago I went to a swap with some friends. One of the items I picked up was this great purple dress. I loved the skirt but the top wasn't really modest and the elastic around the sleeves and neckline was shot. I decided to cut off the top and add a new one. I had never done anything like that before and I was a little worried I would ruin the dress but I figured I got it for free so I might as well try. It actually went really well and I love the dress now. It is really comfortable.

A Day Worth Documenting

Yesterday was one of those days that needs to be written down simply because I won't believe it happened in a few years without a bit of proof. The day started pretty normal. On my way tor work I realized my phone was dead and I had left my charger at home, which stinks. I got to work and got Josh and Vivian ready for the day and then loaded them up in the truck to take Josh to school. Normally I go straight home with Vivian but the cleaning lady was coming so I planned to go shopping at Target and Joann's. While getting into the truck Josh found an old Journey cassette tape and he wasn't sure he believed me that it played music. So as we drove to school we rocked out to Journey in the tape deck. Talk about a flash back. The tape was a little worn and made some crazy noises which was the part Josh liked the best.

After dropping Josh off I headed south with Vivian and got about a mile away before I was in a car accident. I wasn't being a good driver and hit another car. Luckily it really wasn't that bad of accident and the biggest blessing is that no one was hurt. The other driver was really cool about the whole thing and Vivian had a blast playing in the front seat while I dug through the glove box looking for the proof of insurance. I was able to get my phone to turn on long enough to call Mandy (my boss) but I had to leave her a message since she didn't answer her phone. The truck was drivable so the officer followed me home to make sure the truck would get me there. Right as I was getting home Mandy called back and I was trying to tell her I was home and we were okay but I was crying and all she got before my phone really died was that I was in an accident and that we were okay. She and Fred ended up driving all the way down to Target because they weren't sure where I was. Once they found us at the house we all had a bit of hug/cry fest while Vivian squirmed to get down and play.

The rest of the day at work was pretty normal. Josh and I made sno-cones with his Snoopy Sno-cone maker. That thing took way too much work for the amount of sno-cone that came out. My shoulder is actually more sore from cranking that thing than from the accident.

At Mutual we (the YW leaders) were running around like crazy making sure the girls permission forms for Girls Camp were turned in and that the Bishop had interviewed them. Eric and I had picked up one of the YW and then we took her home at the end. She lives in a rough neighborhood. While we were driving to her house we accidentally ran over a little girl's ball. The parents were irate and came up to the car and cornered us. They wanted cash for the ball but we didn't have any. Luckily the Dad/Male was willing to take a check. I was quite freaked out and very grateful that Eric was there with me. Part of me understood the parents position but I was a little upset by the fact that they were letting a six year old play outside at nine o'clock at night.

In the end, the day could have been a lot worse but it was still one of those days were at the end I was thinking "Did that really just happen?".
