How a year changes things!
I was looking back through pictures and found some from last Halloween time when Carter could hardly sit up on his own and could barely lift a tiny pumpkin vs. this year when he was hefting as many as he could into the wheelbarrow! Oh the difference a year can make! Here are a couple of pictures to make us stand in awe of how kids change in just one year!

Tulip Festival
This weekend while my dad and Debbie were in town we treked up to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. If you have never gone you should go, but try to go on a weekday because the place was packed! It was amazing to see, well, at least the grown-ups thought so...

Carters 1 year check-up
Carter had his 1 year check up today and he is doing great! He is 20 lbs (15th percentile) and 31.25 Inches long (90th percentile). Yes he is a tall, skinny baby. He wasn't too excited about his shots but who can blame him. He is healthy and active, not walking yet but cruising with authority. We are continuing to work on his signing and he has mastered "all done" and "more" and we are working several others including "please" which we think would be a much welcome change to his crazy waving that he does when he wants something. He is starting to drink cows milk and seems to like it OK. He says many "words" although we are not sure we always know what he is saying (or that he always knows what he is saying for that matter!) His best word is Dog - I can ask him where the dog is and he will crawl around and find Kenai and point at her and say "DA" - so cute! His others are "Dada, Mama, Hi, ba (ball), and this morning we heard nana (banana). He is also begining to test his (and our) limits to find out things like: how many DVDs can I pull off the shelf before someone catches me, how many times can I pull the cord out of the computer until I end up in my pack and play for a little time to think about my choices, how fussy do I have to be to get to eat just finger food and no more baby food...you get the idea. Regardless we are having fun watching him become more and more independant. He is such a sweetie, and we are truly blessed!

Carter's First Birthday!
Well we made it through the first year and all of us survived. We threw Carter a birthday party with a few friends and neighbors and had a great time. Here's a few pictures and a video of the "cupcake eating".

Also, we put together a slideshow of pictures from Carter's first year so if you have 10 min. to kill check it out...
