Happy Halloween!

Kennedy and I went up to Gardner Village today with the mom's group in our ward. We had a lot of fun looking at all the amazing witches on display and then going to their petting zoo. Kennedy laughed at a couple of the animals, but did not want to touch any of them. :) Call me a lame mother, but I didn't take her trick or treating tonight. She's too young to appreciate the outing and everyone knows I'd be the only one eating the candy anyway! :) So, we went and cheered on daddy at his flag football game instead. (Or more like catching a couple of his plays between trying to keep Kennedy both warm and happy and away from eating all the leaves. :) I'm happy to say it is his last of the season!) Hope you all had a fabulous Halloween!

Halloween Party

We had a blast at our Ward Halloween Party last night. James and I went as Jim and Pam from the Halloween episode of "The Office." For those of you who are not familiar, I highly recommend you familiarize yourself. :) To our delight, we found our co-workers Dwight and Angela also attending. AWESOME! Kennedy managed to win third place in the costume contest awarding us a nice gift certificate to Coldstone....yes!

Daddy got creative and did a little photo shoot with Kennedy and the pumpkins while mommy was busy chatting away with an expectant gal about hypnobirthing.

The tradition lives on

Anybody who knew me as a teenager knows how much I loved to dress up. My friends and I used to make up different themed days so we could have an excuse to come to school dressed up......Thug Day, Inside Out Day, May Day Army Day, Eighties Day, Pajama Day, and the list goes on. We also frequented the local bowling ally in our eighties attire complete with side pony tails and outrageous makeup. Crazy? Maybe. But I ask, "What else is high school good for other than making a fool of yourself and having fun?" :) My dress up clothes have since been passed down to my lil' sis and so I look to my children to carry on the silly spirit. And so with great enthusiasm, I introduce Miss Chickadee Kennedy:

Precious, no? I was so excited to get her a Halloween costume and I've been trying to find excuses for her to wear it this month more than once. Well, this afternoon we went to Cornbelly's with some friends from our old ward and I figured there wasn't a better time to pull out the chicken costume. :) We had a great time watching the singing chickens, getting lost in the corn maze, going down slides, riding in a cow train and watching a pig race!

Kennedy was chosen to represent one of the pigs in the race! 'Miss Faith Squeal' unfortunately took last place, but we were honored for her efforts with a nice spider ring which Kennedy promptly began to eat.

Here we are waving from our pig cheering post

Park Playdate Take Two

Yesterday Kennedy and I went to the park with Heather Jenson and her daughter Emma. The Jensons were in our ward until a few months ago when they up and bought a cute home in Springville and left the student life. We have a fun connection because Kennedy and Emma were born on the exact same day.......hence it's destiny that they be good friends. :) We loved getting to spend an afternoon with them at the park.

Loving the swings....

Yes that's bark she's putting in her mouth. :)

(Kennedy looks like a giant compared to cute petite Emma) ;)

Bathtime Blessings

Kennedy absolutely loves the bath and boy am I grateful! I actually have a decent amount of time to get ready in the morning now. :) She plays happily in the tub while I do my hair and makeup.......thank heavens for bathtime!

Cheeseball

She looks scary old here doesn't she?

Couldn't resist...

Faith's Cross Country Meet

Last Wednesday, Kennedy and I went to cheer on my little sister Faith at her Stake Cross Country Meet. Not your ideal running weather, but Faith did fabulously nonetheless.

All Bundled Up...no way was this little girl going to get sick. :)

Super Saturday

We had our Relief Society Super Saturday a week and a half ago and Kennedy joined me for this marathon day at the church. I brought her walker to keep both of us happy :) and her 16 mo. old friend Katelynn got a riot out of pushing Kennedy around. We were all laughing hysterically. Katelynn loves to push things and Kennedy didn't mind the free ride. Katelynn went from pushing her, to riding on the back and then the side. Quite the entertaining duo.

New Discovery

I realized this morning while feeding Kennedy her breakfast that she loves it when I dance. I was just being silly with her and being animated while singing "Popular" from the Broadway "Wicked" (for any of you who haven't seen this, it is a must see -- one word: PHENOMENAL!) and she was going crazy! Then I decided to see if she would enjoy just the dancing and no singing, so I moved out to an open space on our wood floors and whipped out a couple pirouettes and she went crazy screaming with delight. So fun. I haven't danced in quite a long time and I'm quite embarrassed with how horrible I now am -- Out of shape and out of practice. But nonetheless I still miss it. Good to know that I have one adoring fan that can provide a non-judgemental audience to indulge me. :)

I've Been Tagged

5 things I was doing 10 years ago:
1. Still hanging onto those nasty bangs
2. Spazzing it up on stage performing in my show choir
3. Feeling left out as the only one in my group of friends not yet able to shop in the Junior section. Ha.
4. Getting my braces off.......oh the feeling of slimy teeth!
5. Developing an addiction to Mary Higgins Clark mystery novels of which I read probably a dozen within that one school year and then the excitement faded. (Sadly that number easily exceeds the combined total of books I've read for pleasure since.......working on that.)

5 things on my "to-do" list tomorrow:
1. Get Beautified (James comes home from a 3 day convention in Las Vegas - yeah!)
2. Get bids for our master shower tile redo.....GRRRRR.....don't get me started.
3. Enjoy the predicted 70 degree weather because it may be our last chance this year!
4. Finish my chapter in "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child"
5. Make myself Orange Chicken & Avocado Salad for dinner -- I've been craving this all week, but have been too lazy to make myself anything special with James not home. Pathetic, I know.

5 things I would do if I had a million dollars:
1. Buy a house - complete with garage and yard
2. Buy a car
3. Take a cruise with my hubbie (and without the precious babe -- sorry Kennedy)
4. Buy Furniture!
5. Invest the rest in Real Estate

5 things I will never wear again:
1. Turquoise shorts with matching socks and scrunchy. Barf. :)
2. Lip Bumper - Thank heaven for that.......Megan, do you remember? :)
3. Tapered Jeans.....No Faith, just because they have been renamed the "Skinny Jean" does not make them cool.....do not be fooled! :) HA HA!
4. Pink Saddle Shoes.....although I am quite saddened by this......those things were adorable.....remember?
5. Diapers.......well, here's hoping right?? :)

5 Favorite toys:
1. Deck of cards - boy does it feel good to beat James at a game of 'Hand 'n Foot' :)
2. Boat (and all the accessories of course)
3. Bike (Well, only in my fantasies......I am currently bike-less, but I dream of having a cute little bike, with a basket and a carrier for Kennedy in the back. I tell James all the time about how I would cruise around everywhere if I had one. Hint Hint.) :)
4. Does HGTV count?
5. Definitely the computer

5 People I am tagging: Malia Hoyt, Lindy Baker, Kristie Lee, Danielle Haines and Heather Jenson.

Park Playdate

Okay, so I'm a little behind....Kennedy and I have been trying to take advantage of the beautiful weather and try out some different parks nearby. We went about a week and half ago with my friend Cassie and her adorable daughter Lexi to a park nearby called Nielsen's Grove Park......it is an awesome park! Complete with playground, including baby swings, tons of open grassy areas to play and a duck pond. We'll be going there more often.

Lexi was having a blast in the swing, cheesing it up as she does best. :)

Kennedy on the other hand was not so sure.....

But after Lexi's encouragement, she warmed up.

Thank goodness for wonderful girlfriends! It is so nice to be able to get out of the house. I'm not looking forward to the cold winter weather.

Is This How It's Done?

So I found Kennedy like this last Saturday.....seems she decided to get creative and play underneath her walker.

Looks like fun....

Starting to get a little frustrated as she bumps her head....

Deciding it was not such a good idea after all.....

Given up....."Somebody please save me!"

At this point I came to her rescue. Curiosity always gets the best of her. :)

P.S. For any of you Longhorn fans out there, Kennedy is wearing her burnt orange Texas gear complete with matching pacifier. While we're aware they're not doing so hot this year, Kennedy is no fair weather fan!

Love this Book

My apologies for being a horrible blogger the past three weeks. I've had a couple friends reprimand me. :) The truth is, I've been spending every spare minute devouring this book:

It has been a life saver for me! I'm only half way through this 400+ page book, but oh how it has already made such a wonderful difference in my life! Kennedy use to go to bed at about 11pm, sometimes earlier, sometimes later and she would sleep a good 8-9 hours. Now she goes to bed between 7pm and 8pm and sleeps for 12-13 hours!!! Hallelujah! Can I even tell you No 1. how much happier I am now that I have time to myself and hubby in the evening and No 2. how much happier Kennedy is during the day?! It's amazing. Little did I know, her increased fussiness over the past couple months was because she was overtired and fatigued most of the time. Thank heavens for wonderful books, because as I'm learning, mothering isn't always instinctual. Mostly I find it's trial and error and often I don't have the answers. I highly recommend this book to moms and future moms alike. I initially just checked it out from the library but have now decided to purchase a copy because the book contains sections on all ages from birth to adolescence. I'm sure I'll want to go back and reference this book again and again.

Sorry to all for the post overload that follows and sorry especially to the grandparents for the long time wait.

Too Cute
