Christmas Pictures

Here are more pictures than you probably care to see, but there were just too many cute ones! We had such a good time being with Jeremy's family in California. This was the first time that we had all been together in a couple of years so it was really special.

Happy Birthday Nana!

Jeremy and the kids walking on the beach

We were using a tripod and timer on my camera to get a good shot. I thought this one turned out great except for Kenyon looking to the side.

Maya and Kai were playing in the sand and getting so dirty in between pictures

I love the chaos-ness of this shot!

Try to get 4 kids, 2 and under to sit still for a kids picture :)

I think this was the best shot... and it is not great! Ha ha!

Santa came to visit and brought the kids new PJs. Then we opened all of our presents on Christmas Eve because that is the day Dr. Justin (Jeremy's brother) had the day off. We were completely spoiled and had such a great time!

We flew home Christmas Day. That is the day to travel - the airports and flights were empty! Then my aunt's family and my grandparents came into town the day after. We waited and had Christmas with my family when my brother Kellen and his family came on Friday. I didn't take many pictures because by that point sickness had taken over our holiday cheer, but we were also spoiled there and had a great time. Maya got a dollhouse that she absolutely loves.

Happy New Year!

My Poor Baby!

We have been so sick this year! I can't remember having a year with so much sickness since I had my first year as a school teacher and was exposed to all of those little germs. I am so sick of being sick!!

Kenyon and I have had colds for almost 2 weeks. On Friday night he started running a high fever. He had it all day Saturday and by Saturday night he had started vomiting. So we called the doctor and they said to take him to the ER. I did not want to go to the ER with him again (it takes hours!) so we took him to the Children's Urgent Care instead. We got there around 9:30 and they did some urine tests and examined him, but couldn't find anything. They were very concerned because of his high fever (around 103 degrees) so they wanted blood work done. Their blood machine wasn't working so they sent us to the ER. It was now 11:30 and we were headed to the ER. When we got there, it was a zoo - people waiting everywhere. Needless to say, we should have gone straight there instead of wasting 2 hours at Urgent Care. So we finally got in to see a doctor around 1:30. They put him on IV fluids for a couple of hours and took blood. He was such a trooper as they poked and prodded him. All he wanted to do was sleep and they kept waking him up. We were finally discharged around 4:30 with a diagnosis of "It is just a virus." What a night! I am so tired of taking this kid to the doctor and hearing that it is just a virus, but I guess we should be grateful it is nothing serious.

Today he still has a fever and is really fussy, but has not vomited so far.

Oh and we had a TON of fun in California for Christmas and I will post more about that with pictures when we are healthy and happy again.

Merry Christmas

Since we are going out of town for Christmas, we asked Santa if he could come to our house early. He came on Sunday morning. Maya was so confused. You see, when we tell her someone is "coming to our house," she expects to see them there. When she woke up on Sunday morning and he wasn't there, she didn't believe that he had come. We have since convinced her that he did come and bring her scooter, but she originally claimed that Mom and Dad gave her her scooter.

Here are some highlights:

Opening up their PJs on "Christmas Eve"

So happy that Santa brought the one thing she asked for

Kenyon excited about his Cars rug

Mom's new bike

This is Mom's favorite gift for Maya - now Mom and Maya can listen to their own music in the car and we don't have to take turns anymore! :)

Night out on the Town

Last night was Jer's work party. Jer got a new outfit and I even went and got my hair done for the occasion. I think we clean up to be a pretty cute couple :).

And the babysitter survived... barely! While she was busy trying to keep Kenyon from screaming and getting him to bed, Maya decorated the kitchen chair with yogurt. Then I just noticed there is candle wax from a candle warmer spilled all over the counter. If that is all that happened, she was very successful because that is minor compared to a typical day when they are with me!

Nintendo Wii

Anyone have one for sale or know where to get one? A good friend has been on a hunt for one and is not having success. I thought I would give it a try to post on here. Please email or call me if you have one or if you see one, buy it and she will get you $. Email: britanyut@yahoo.com

Early Christmas Present!!

Last week we received an early Christmas present in the mail from Nana and Grandpa (Jer's parents). What a fun surprise! Jer took the kids for their first spin in it yesterday.

It was only 60 degrees so they are really bundled up :).

Getting ready...

And they're off!

Kenyon when they came back - fast asleep. Thanks Nana and Grandpa!

Today

This is what we woke up to - FOG! What a treat from the sunny AZ weather. We have been lucky enough to have quite a bit of rain lately and now fog. Maya couldn't remember ever seeing fog before. She wanted to go play in it! As nice as the change is, it doesn't make me want to go to Utah anytime soon and freeze to death. Sorry Utahns, but we are headed to sunny California this year for Christmas instead. How did I live there all of my life? :)

Check out this video clip... And we wonder why Maya thinks the world revolves around her?

Here is our gingerbread house. I would not recommend eating any of the candy on this thing - it has all been licked!

Humble Pie

I am certain that Kenyon was sent to our family to teach me many valuable lessons. Later on I will post about all of the lessons I have learned from his adoption, but today is Lesson #1 - Humility as a Parent.

Before Kenyon came along, I had certain beliefs about what "my kids" would or wouldn't do. These beliefs have become myths that are proven wrong every day!

Myth #1 - My kids sleep through the night at 8 weeks. Kenyon didn't start until 6 months and then since he has been sick, we are re-training again.

Myth #2 - My kids don't have colic. Remember my posts from back in May and June??!!

Myth #3 - My kids never experience separation anxiety. This has gotten really bad lately. He only wants me - not Jeremy, not the babysitters, not even grandparents, just me. Help! Any experienced moms with advice? :)

Myth #4 - My kids rarely get sick and when they do it only lasts a short time. We all had the stomach bug last week for less than 12 hours, Kenyon - he had it for 7 days.

Myth #5 - My kids like to ride in the car. He is getting better, but from day 1 he screamed and screamed every time he got in that blasted car seat.

Here are some myths that I still hold that I am sure he will diminish:

Myth #6 - My kids potty train themselves at a very young age.

Myth #7 - My kids respond very well to time-out.

Myth #8 - My kids will sit quietly and watch Sesame Street while I shower and get ready.

Oh the list could go on and on, but I think you get the point. I am no longer the super mom that I thought I was, but you know what, I think that is okay. I am learning some pretty important life lessons through this job called motherhood. So please join me for some humble pie.

Thanks goodness it is Friday!

Happy Day

We just got a call from our attorney in Florida. They held a termination hearing today and Kenyon's birthparents' rights were terminated. She said it got a little scary when the birthfather's attorney showed up in the courtroom requesting 10 more days. He said that the birthfather doesn't want to contest it, but they needed 10 more days. The judge agreed with our attorney that 8 months was long enough and signed the order to terminate rights. Our attorney said that the other attorney just wanted to drag it on so he could get more money even though the birthfamily didn't want to. CRAZY!

Now we just wait 30 days until we can finalize. Happy day!!

Favorite Room

A while back my sister-in-law Tricia challenged everyone to post a picture of their favorite room in their house on their blogs. Here it is:

Our loft! This room is where we spend most of our time. All of the kids' toys are in here, our computer and a super comfy sectional couch. This room is almost always messy with toys, but at least there is only one room dedicated to toys rather than the whole house. Oh and it also serves as Kenyon's room right now until Jeremy's cousin moves out - notice the pack-n-play bed in the corner. Our kids might need lots of therapy when they get older - Maya slept in the dining room of our one-bedroom apartment while we were building our house (from 3 months-18 months old) and Kenyon has been in the loft/family room for 8 months!! :)

Thanks Tricia for a fun idea! If anyone else wants to join in the challenge, feel free!

Baby Jesus

Tonight our family night lesson was on the Birth of Jesus. I figured it was time to really teach Maya more about it. We used her Fisher Price Little People Nativity as we read from the Bible. It went great! Then we put together a foam Nativity kit that I bought at the store.

Here are some funny and cute things Maya said as we did this:

-"Oh no, Mary's head fell off!" (as we were gluing Mary together :)

-She made up a song, "Jesus go to sleep, go to sleep, go to sleep" and was singing to him in his manger"

-She hid Mary and Joseph and yelled, "Dora, Diego - baby Jesus needs to find his family!" We had to then help baby Jesus find his family. (Can you tell we play Dora and Diego make believe all of the time?!)

Kenyon's Adoption

Okay, okay, many people ask and I always put off responding. My friend Niki just sent me an instant message to see if I ever check my blog comments because I have not responded to comments about Kenyon's adoption. I just never know what to post and what not to, so here it goes.

We served Kenyon's birthfather with papers back in October giving him 30 days to "do something" or we are going to finalize. He did nothing so now we are proceeding forward to finalize the adoption. That said, there are so many steps along the way. The next step is a hearing to terminate birthparents' rights and then we wait 30 days before the finalization hearing. They were hoping to finalize by Christmas, but since it has taken so long just to schedule the hearing (2 weeks to be exact - remember our GREAT attorney??!!), that now finalization by Christmas is no longer possible.

So all I can say is we hope (and pray) that it will soon be over, but we are trying to not count our eggs before they've hatched! Is that enough info? :)

Thanksgiving

I am finally getting around to posting about our Thanksgiving. Kenyon is still sick and I even got it for 12 hours, Jeremy is working 15 hours days, 6 days a week - but I have decided I am done whining about all of our woes. Time to be happy because the holiday season is upon us! :)

We went to St. George, Utah for Thanksgiving to be with my Dad's family. My brother Kellen and his family met us there as well. It was so much fun! Some highlights:

- Shopping!! My mom and I woke up at 3:30 am on Black Friday to hit the outlet mall that opened at midnight. Then we hit the usual - Wal-Mart, Target, Roberts, Tai Pan and even a holiday boutique before crashing back in bed at 1:00 pm. We love to do this the day after Thanksgiving whether we are in Northern Utah, Southern Utah, California, etc. We have done this for over 10 years and we are amazed at how much busier and busier the stores get every year. In the beginning, there weren't nearly as many crazy people like us out there!!

- Golfing; The boys golfed Thursday (yes Thanksgiving morning), Friday and Saturday. Jer was in heaven!

- Playing games with the family at my grandparents house. We had a mean game of DVD Family Feud with my dad's family versus my uncle's family. The stomped us the first round and then we stomped them the second round. Rematch in 2 years when we are back in St. George?? We also played this fun animal sound game and now I can't remember what it was called... Somebody help me out! I think it was called Snort-o??

- Food; Of course Thanksgiving wouldn't be complete without great food. My aunt made some amazing pies and we always have banana pudding with that family - delicious!

- Live Nativity; There is a live nativity performance at the Tuacahn Outdoor Amphitheater. This is our favorite Friday night activity. Santa is even there for the kids to sit with. Maya said, "Santa, I want a scooter for Christmas" in a very serious voice. It was VERY cold for our Arizona blood there! I think it got down into the 30s at night!

So much more, but for now here are some pictures to enjoy!
Proof that I do cook occasionally :)

Isn't Olivia cute?!

Poor Little Kenyon

He is still throwing up! It started Monday night and it is now Thursday afternoon. Last night he got really dehydrated. It was super scary so we finally took him to the E.R. this morning. By the time we got there, we had given him enough shots of pedialyte with a medicine dropper so he didn't have to get fluid IVs or anything. He is so sad!

Hanging on... by a thread!

We are still here - barely! My babies have the stomach flu - throwing up countless times, Jeremy and I have ear infections that resulted from the colds Jeremy, Maya and I had last week, and we are an all around SICK home.

So I need to post about our fun-filled Thanksgiving in St. George, Utah, but I better go clean up this pig sty instead!

The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Have you ever read this book? This was my day.

It started out with the passing of Oscar. Jeremy found him belly-up this morning. Maya didn't realize until later in the day. She cried and said she wants another fish. She keeps saying, "Oscar went to live with Jesus."

Next, Maya still has her cold. She was up off and on all night with a fever. When I don't get sleep I am grouchy.

Because Maya is sick, we couldn't go to gymnastics. When I am stuck in my house, I am not happy.

Kenyon is still fussy about that tooth that is coming in.

Maya only napped for 1/2 hour - usually she does 2-3.

Jeremy worked late.

And the final straw - I received an invoice via email from our adoption attorney. Now you have to know that their service has been awful. I have to call and email and call and email and call and email for several weeks to get a return call or email. I have always said that I can't complain until the adoption is final because they weren't charging us above and beyond our initial fees. I was wrong - dead wrong - $6,000.00 wrong! Yes, that is what they are charging for their #$%^^&*@#$% service.

And that my friends, is why we are headed to get Maya a new fish and treat ourselves to some yummy, delicious, fat-filled ice cream. Oh and tomorrow I will talk about everything I am grateful for, but today I needed to vent :).

Today

Remember Oscar the fish that Maya got for her birthday last February? He is still alive! That in itself is a miracle - a beta fish that survived for 9 months! Well this morning Maya and Jeremy were downstairs making breakfast. Maya said she wanted to see her Oscar. So Jer looked in his vase (his bowl broke so he is now in a vase) and he wasn't there. Jeremy got a little freaked out and started looking around. He found him lying lifeless on the cold, hard tile floor. He quickly put Maya on the couch to distract her and picked up Oscar. Oscar started moving a little, but he was all dried out and discolored. Once he put him back in the water, he came to life a little more, but he has not looked good all day. Can you believe he jumped out and landed on the ground??!! Below is a picture of how far of a fall it is. Please keep Oscar in your thoughts!! :)

Kenyon is crawling. It isn't quite an official crawl yet, but he can get across the room by pulling up on his hands and knees and doing some scooting/army crawling. I tried to get some video of it, but of course he was camera shy. I will get more video later. He is also getting his 3rd tooth. It is one on top. He is not a happy guy!

Maya has a cold so she has one runny nose, but it doesn't even phase her. That girls just keeps going! She woke up at 6:30 am this morning. Now let me tell you about my Sunday mornings - it is the one morning that Jeremy is home (he either golfs or works on Saturday mornings) so I take full advantage of it. I sleep in and Jeremy and Maya bring me breakfast in bed. So this morning when Jeremy went into Maya's room at the crack of dawn, he said, "Do you want to go watch a movie in our bed?" She replied, "No - I want to make breakfast for my mommy." First of all she is smart to remember that one day a week when daddy is home that is what happens. Second, what a sweetheart!

One more story - yesterday I was feeding Kenyon some squash baby food. The doorbell rang so I went to get it. He was very happy and content while I visited with a friend. When I came back over and this is what I found:

He had pulled the container of baby food off of the table and made a mess of himself, his high chair and the floor. Never a dull moment!
