VBS Part 2

5 days of VBS has finally come to an end. All that's left is VBS concert tomorrow. I can't believe I actually gave up going to Irau for this concert. For now, my only prayer is that the kids will remember what they have learnt this whole week, and continue to grow in their faith.

~Honolulu Riders~ class picture

VBS format is simple. We follow the same format everyday, but each day we do different things in each station. Firstly we start off the day with Worship Rally Lagoon, where all classes come together to sing and dance.

Singing and Dancing

Dancing

After which we'll all return to our respective classrooms, a.k.a Bible Study Beach Hut, where there will be a Bible lesson. Each day we touch on different truths about God. Day1 is God is real, day2 is Jesus is the God's son, day 3 is Jesus is the only way, day4 is the Bible is God's word, and day5 is my action shows what I believe. Lessons were made interesting with role plays and games, not forgetting chocolates and prizes!

Teacher Lilian and the 'burning' bush

Teacher May Foong conducting a pirate game

After classes its Music Falls. Similar to the starting Worship Rally Lagoon, but this time its only the Std5 and 6s. This time kids will get to learn the steps for all 6 dances in detail. They also use this time for concert practice.

Learning the actions for dances

Practising for concert

Don't we all love Andy?

Yet another concert practice session

After Music Falls is Recreation Reef. This is 20mins of pure fun with games. Everyday a different game is played. All simple yet interesting.

Water balloon transfer

Go slow and steady ppl!

They have like.. unlimited supply of water balloons

Spin, spin and away~~

Obstacle course ahead

After games is Snack Shack. I must say the food prepared were really good. The kids went on with 2nd and 3rd helpings. Yummm.. Too bad no photos =(
Next is Craft Cabana/Mission Lookout. Basically the kids will make a craft here. But for the std5&6, invited speakers share and tell the kids the importance of missions, and encourage all of them to pray for missionaries around the world. Nevertheless there will still be a smaller and simpler craft to be done.

Mini-craft session

Yet another craft picture

After Missions Lookout, the kids will return to Bible Study Beach Hut (classroom) for the closing up of lesson. Lastly is Worship Rally Lagoon again, then Home Sweet Home.

Never a moment have I regretted helping VBS. Though it may be tiring, but it's really a joy to see kids so hyped up over God's word. God bless all of you!

Thanks A Bunch, Rachel

Dear RachL,

I don't really know how to tell you this, but I'll join the monastery. I think I realized it when that night under the bus and I saw you sit on Bill Clinton. I'm sure you're ashamed enough to understand that there is no solution to this. I'm returning the couch cushions to you, but I'll keep the oil stocks as a memory. You should also know that I told in my confession today about Eggplant-fetishism.

Greetings to your freaky family, KokMun.

Vacation Bible School

In case some of you are surprised why I wasn't online in the afternoon for the past few days, its becoz I'm currently very busy with VBS a.k.a Vacation Bible School.

Basically VBS a holiday program for kids of standard 6 and below. In my church, First Baptist Church (FBC), it's done through out 5 days. Due to the over-whelming response from VBS 07, VBS 08 has 2 sessions! Yes, TWO sessions! (Morning 8.30am-12.30pm, and afternoon 2-6pm.) Actually I registered to help out both sessions, but God has provided enough volunteers so I was scheduled for the afternoon session only. What a waste.

This year's VBS syllabus is taken from LifeWay, with the theme OUTRIGGER ISLAND - Living God's Unshakable Truth! It's Hawaii based, so decorations all around church compound gives a beach, ocean and marine feel. The motto this year is Know the Truth, Speak the Truth, Live the Truth.

Well, maybe some of you may think this is lame, but VBS is really the best way to spend time during the holidays. Not only do we get to interact and teach the kids about God's word, we also get a chance to reflect on our own spiritual life.

I'll blog about my whole VBS experience after the whole thing is over. I promise more photos! Until then, tata!

SAM Corroboree a.k.a Prom

NOTE: Sorry dear readers for abandoning this blog for so long. I've been very busy watching movies. Wake up at 12pm, watch till 4am, sleep till 12pm. Simple life ehh? LOL

SAM final exams are finally over. Actually it has been over more than a week from now. Overall the exams were okay, I think I've done my best, I'll let God do the rest.

Prom was 2 days ago, compared to WMS Prom 2007, this year's prom was much better. No offence to the organisers of last year's prom though. Well, when you have the whole college and SAM staffs and student committee working together for an event, the results will definitely be much better. Can you imagine a prom night with 82 table, that is a total of 820 ppl!

Prom, or rather SAM Corroboree was held in Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel Ballroom. The theme was Everlasting Memories. To be honest, I wasn't looking forward to the night. I only started to think of what to wear a day before. And of all shirts, I chose to wear back the same one as last year's. The following conversation took place after Sheng saw one of my prom pictures on msn display picture.

Sheng: omggggg... its dat shirt again!!
Me: Yea
Me: I lazy change
Sheng: ....
Sheng: ur the man..
Me: tks
Sheng: im speechless edi
Me: just remain silent then
Me: haha!

Well, I couldn't care less of what I wear. Not as if it matters anyway. I even brought my PSP along as my only source of entertainment.

Back to prom day itself, mum actually took leave to dress my sister up. They went to set hair at 3pm+, while I stayed home to watch my HK dramas. I'm proud to say I completed a series of 60 episode in 5 days! Lolz. At 4pm+, I got an sms from PingSern saying that he is already reaching the hotel. I was like, wth, I haven't even bathe. What a jerk he is. LOL! At about 5.30pm, I dragged myself into the shower and was all ready by 6pm. My sister dili-deli, this make up, that accessory, finally we left house at 7pm, for a prom that starts at 6pm. Typical china men.

Without any doubt, I had to drive coz my sister was on high heels. My parents allowed us to jockey park. RM15 wei. Wth. Should have just parked at the opposite mamaks.

Went in the hotel lobby, saw half of G3 lepaking there. Not too long later saw PingSern and we went to register, went to our table, and... PSP TIME!! Well I still walked around and took some pictures k, I wasn't that anti-social after all. Oh, did I mention PingSern brought a valentine's gift for *ahem*? Err boy, its November now =.=".

Prom ended rather early, around 11pm. We got a free entrance to Euphoria, so my sister wanted to go with her friends. I was waiting for my own friends to go too, but my sister called half and hour later to say that the queue to enter Euphoria is freaking long, so she decided to go home.

That's about all for prom day to night. Hope the memories in Taylors will be everlasting. Some pictures now!

KaiXin, classmate since form4.

ZhiMei, don't she look like a geisha? xD

Eilene jie jie

Jasmine wore a dress!!!

Melvin, asst class rep of G3.

From right: PingSern, MaeYee, Amelia, Stella, Rachel, Me

PingSern, one of my very good friends in G3.

Until the next post, which will be quite some time from now, coz I finally got Bleach series from Dragoat. Episode 1 till 160+. Tata =)

Learn To Make Better Decisions‏ The Christian Way

I got this passage in an email, which I thought was really relavant to all readers out there who face difficulties making decisions. Be it where to study, what to study, or whatever it is. Enjoy!

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The Word for Today
with Bob Gass - Thursday, 6th November 2008

If you're still making the same mistakes at 50 that you were at 20, you need to ask God for wisdom. "The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge; the ears of the wise seek it out" (Proverbs 18:15 NIV). What you are in the present is determined by the decisions you made in the past. If you want to change your future, learn to make better decisions. Be wise; let these principles guide you:

(1) Never make permanent decisions based on temporary circumstances. If you do, you'll regret it.

(2) Don't let your emotions blind you reasoning. Pray, weigh things carefully and base your decisions on mature judgment.

(3) Surround yourself with sharp people and draw on their gifts, without being intimidated by their expertise.

(4) Take the time to consider all options. What looks good to you today may not look so good tomorrow.

(5) You can't fight successfully on every front, so choose your battles carefully. Simply stated: some things are not worth fighting for.

(6) Take time to get all the facts; conjecture leads to crisis.

(7) Consider the consequences of each action. Ask yourself, "Am I ready to handle this right now?"

(8) Make sure your expectations don't exceed your potential and your resources. Be realistic. If you can't count, don't apply for a job in the finance office. If you can't sing, don't try to make an album. Focus on what God gifted you to do. That's where you'll succeed.

(9) Time is your most limited and valuable resource. Don't waste it.

(10) Allow yourself a 10% risk of being wrong, a 50% likelihood of betrayal, and a 100% commitment to trust God, go forward and survive it all.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

That's about it, hope it'll help all of us to make better decisions from now on!
