Back Flip!

The funniest thing happened today on the way to church!!! We had made it almost all the way to church and made a left turn at the light a block away from church. As I made the turn, Matthew's seat flipped back into the trunk! Seriously! He started yelling that he had landed in trunk. When I realized what happened and confirmed he wasn't hurt, I truly could not stop laughing. We were all howling by the time we got into the parking lot. I told him to stay put so I could grab a picture of him feet-up!

We determined that the seat didn't properly latch down after we cleaned the car on Saturday (boys went on the Father-Son Campout thus necessitating a good car cleaning...). Luckily Matthew is just so good natured, he loved that it happened. The kids all raced into church to tell Dad what had happened. I don't think we stopped laughing for a good 10 minutes!

Baseball and T-Ball Season Begins!

I guess it's officially spring when baseball season begins and my calendar starts to look like a road map! I don't know how we'll do it as we add more things to our schedules (we haven't even started music lessons, scouts, heavy homework...) Anyway, we all love it and the boys were REALLY looking forward to this season. Carter is playing on a baseball team with several other boys we know. They don't keep score and everyone hits, but if you are 'out', then you go back to the bench and don't continue around the bases. You can go as far as you can on your hit - Carter hit a double in his first game. His friend Thomas Vick hit a home run in last Saturday's game!! He is enjoying it and really likes to play catch in the backyard.
Matthew is in his first year and thus in tee-ball. He is lucky to have Bill as one of his coaches! Bill does a super job with the kids and Matthew really loves it. His first game was in the BLAZING heat one Saturday and he was such a trooper, never came off the field when he shouldn't have and didn't complain. He seems to enjoy it also.
Last Sat. I lined the boys up for a picture. Here it is.....

As I was taking it, someone felt she should really be in the picture. Notice her Red Sox shirt and sparkly silver shoes! She's a great cheerleader!

Now if I could just stop praying for rain on the days when they both have games at the same time :)

P.S. Does anyone know how to make return spaces between paragraphs in blogspot? I'm a rookie.

Matthew turns 5!

On April 23, 2009 our little (not really little) Matthew Bear turned 5 years old! There was much anticipation for this day - he is his 'whole hand'! (Matthew below just a day or so old)

The weekend before his birthday we had a few parties. First he was treated to lunch at Cheesecake Factory by his Aunts Kimmie and Robin. (Mom accompanied, of course). He then got a shopping spree to Target to pick out his presents from them. Kim said she really likes shopper like Matthew - he knew exactly what he wanted, we got it in the cart (had to make a few concessions) then announced he was done. Such a guy....
Sunday the Benjaminsen family came over for a little dinner and party. We all had a great time.

Below is the cake I made for his birthday. He had an Indiana Jones themed birthday so these are fake snakes on the cake.

On Monday (Patriot's Day), we had an Indiana Jones party for several friends. It was so much fun and a blast to plan. Many kids came dressed up (as both our boys were). As they arrived, the IJ theme song was playing in the yard thanks to Dad and his DJ abilities. The kids hunted for treasure, dug in 'quick sand' for their skull and crossbones bracelets to protect them from danger, at eyeball soup and monkey brains (grapes in water, and cold, cooked spaghetti), crawled through snakes and ate their chocolate mud cakes drinking out of monkey cups. Below are the pictures..........................

OH, that's right. I didn't take any. Such a huge bummer when I realized I didn't hand my camera off to someone to capture the kids in action. It really was fun. You'll have to take our word for it!
Just a quick note about our Matthew - he is such a sweet boy and we are so lucky he is in our family. He shares almost anything (when he arrived home with many gifts from his Target shopping spree, he willingly shared with/gave toys to Carter) and is quite helpful. He is a great brother to both Carter and Abby. He still loves his Dad more than anything, though! (He will now, though, profess some love for his Mom, which is nice and welcome...) We love you Matthew!

Snaggle Tooth Phase Begins

So I'm finally blogging some things that have happened over the past month, so bear with the 'this happened a bit ago' theme...
Carter told me at the end of March that he felt some bumps in the front of his mouth. So after some investigation, we saw that an adult tooth had completely poked through the gums BEHIND one of his front baby teeth. Since the tooth wasn't really that wiggly, I called the dentist and they said to bring him in for an extraction. When we went in, they determined the other adult tooth next to it was about to come through also and they thought he should have both teeth extracted. So after some shots (during which Carter was a total champ), both teeth came out.
We played up the tooth fairy part to help him through the shots. I made him a pillow the day before the extractions (he chose electric guitar material) and indeed the fairy came that night.
The only downside has been he can't eat apples whole. But as I write this, his adult teeth have come in almost all the way so he took an apple to school today - see how news changes if you wait long enough to blog it!
