Merry Christmas from the Young Family
Charleston, South Carolina
2016

Greetings to our dear friends and family,
It’s a Christmas poem from the Youngs as you can see!
It’s been many years since one of these has gone out,
Verses of rhyme to let you know what our family has been lately about.
So buckle up tight and hold onto your horseshoes,
We’ll fill you in on our lives, all while trying to amuse.

Rich is still as handsome and hunky as ever before,
If it’s at all possible, I love him today even more!
He’s strong and fun and adventurous and full of valor,
And still owns a business as a financial advisor.
He gardens, he runs, he hikes, he leads,
He appreciates our presence in the garden to pull weeds.

I, Julie, continue to home school our precious treasures,
Watching them grow, learn and pursue their interests brings me much pleasure.
We love to take school on the road in our RV,
Exploring our big, beautiful country with abundant splendor to see.
This year over 6500 miles of road we traversed with the ministry: GFI,
Sharing Biblical parenting principles from God whom we glorify.

Our firstborn baby girl, Ellen, has gone off to college,
At Charleston Southern University gaining all sorts of knowledge.
She’s beautiful, hardworking, creative, smart,
And she loves the Lord Jesus with all of her heart,
She’s chosen to study the field of Graphic Design,
Her desire to glorify our Creator through art is genuine.

16-year-old Caleb – tall, handsome and a little boy no more,
Hardworking, mature and in school, a sophomore.
He loves the outdoors, boating, hiking and working with wood,
His artistic side enjoys making music – he’s really quite good!
The next endeavor he wants to try,
Is into a cockpit to learn how to fly.

The 3rd teen in our home is 13-year-old Logan,
Teetering on the brink between boy and man.
He’s smart and fun and one hard-working guy,
The amount of sports knowledge in his head, no one can quantify.
But he has a musical side, as well, that’s not as well known,
He’ll blow you away on the piano, cello and saxophone!

Our darling Rebekah is an 11-year-old sweetie,
Tiny but mighty describes her to a T.
She races across the pool in a blur of determination and speed,
Butterfly and breaststroke are the strokes in which she succeeds.
But her musical ear will make even the grumpiest one grin,
As she makes beautiful sounds flow from her oboe, piano and violin!

Anna, our joyful 9-year-old, is an imaginative and creative genius,
Give her a topic or an idea and with her you’ll have plenty to discuss!
She’s bubbly and fun and overflowing with joy,
Her little brothers often follow her around in a costumed convoy.
She’s a fish who swims whenever given the chance,
Then hops on the piano or violin to share a song and dance.

Micah is 6 and a bundle of boy energy,
Summer is his favorite where he can swim, boat and water ski.
He swims all summer long in the salty Wando River,
As long as it’s warm out, as he does not like to shiver!
With his daddy, he loves to watch racecars and play baseball,
And he smiles big when Denny Hamlin and the Cubs win it all!

And last, but certainly not least comes Jacob who’s three,
His big question - when will he next get to hug his Ellie?
He’s mama’s little helper who loves to snuggle and cuddle,
Then off with the boys to wrestle and jump in a puddle.
He’s making the jump from toddler to boy,
Oh, this little guy brings all who know him oodles of joy!

We parent this adventuresome crew with courage and determination,
Our success to be decided by an audience of One.
We love the Lord Jesus, He’s our Savior, our God,
He loves us (and you!) like crazy, even though we’re quite flawed.
Join us as we daily surrender our lives to Him,
Without His sovereign guidance, our lives would be quite grim.

Think on Jesus as you celebrate this Christmas season,
It’s easy to forget that for this season, He is the reason.

Merry Christmas 2013

The calendar says December which can only mean one thing,
Time to see what goofiness the Young's Christmas poem will bring,
It's always a challenge to rhyme the news of the last year,
But we'll do our best to bring you some good cheer.

The biggest news, of course, was the arrival of Jacob Matthew,
The latest little blessing God added to our crew,
Born in January with six adoring older siblings,
With all the attention he receives, he must think he's a king.

Micah was thrilled to have a brother more his size,
We can already tell they'll be very close allies.
Micah's sense of humor keeps us constantly giggling,
This soon to be 4 year old is a hilarious blessing.

Anna turned six and keeps us all entertained,
With her stories of adventure and her version of life explained.
Dancing and swimming and dressing up each day,
It's an absolute joy to watch her imaginative child's play.

The East Cooper Swim League butterfly champ,
Is our tiny, but mighty Rebekah from the Young camp.
She's 8, smart, & strong and tenacious in spirit,
We're constantly amazed at her incredible grit.

"Logan Young for president," the signs will say,
Stay tuned as this natural leader grows in wisdom each day.
He plays piano and sax and sings in the choir,
He swims, runs triathlons, surfs & any other sport he desires.

Need something fixed, engineered or just figured out?
Caleb's your go-to-boy (almost man) without a doubt.
He's a teen now and proving our suspicions,
That teenagers are awesome & wonderful family additions.

15 year old Ellen has a driver's license in her possession!
Are Mom and Dad excited? Oh yes! No question.
This adventurous girl loves to travel to lands far beyond,
With passport in hand she'll hop a plane & fly over any big pond.

Rich and Julie love the adventure of parenting this crew,
It's fun and crazy, serious and hard with plenty to do.
But with God's strength and wisdom to guide us along,
When we feel weak, He makes us strong.

We enjoyed visits from so many of you this past year,
What a blessing to share meals and laughs with those we hold dear.
Merry Christmas to you all and Happy New Year,
We pray the gift of our Savior, Jesus, is one you'll hold dear.

Merry Christmas 2012

2012 was quite a year for the Young family,
Read on and why you’ll soon see.
God blessed us and surprised beyond all we could ask or imagine,
His faithfulness and love abounds despite all of our yucky sin.

We began the year with a glorious month Down Under,
A ministry trip filled with friends and sights that were full of wonder.
Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Phillip Island,
We experienced incredible Aussie hospitality firsthand.

We came home ready to rest and ride out the rest of the year,
When a surprise move a few miles away put us into high gear.
We love everything about our new abode,
And thank our Father God for another blessing bestowed.

The first few months of 2012 turned out to be quite wild,
So imagine our surprise when we found out we’d be having another child!
Mid-January is baby number seven’s due date,
We’re all beside ourselves and can hardly wait!

The kids can’t wait to welcome a new little Youngin’,
Ask them about their newest sibling and they’ll flash a big ol’ grin.
Girl? Or boy? Lots of discussion to which no one can concur,
So when folks ask what we’re having, we tell them, “A tie-breaker!”

Ellen, our eldest, is the sweetest teen ever and so full of poise,
History, writing, crochet and photography are a few things she enjoys.
Not to mention swimming, playing the flute and backing our cars out of the garage!
If we’re not careful, we’ll blink and she’ll be in college.

Caleb, is twelve now and has a technical engineering type of mind,
He constantly showing us the many clever inventions he’s designed.
You’ll often find him on the dock with a fishing pole in hand,
Or playing trumpet or out in the kayak, exploring places beyond our piece of land.

Logan, our sports enthusiast, is a 9 year old now,
He’ll play, research, or watch any sport that we’ll allow.
Football, basketball and swimming give him the biggest smile,
Although he also plays piano and saxophone, showing that he is quite versatile.

Rebekah is seven now and a second grade sweet pea,
An outstanding swimmer who also loves to water ski.
Reading, piano and choir have proven to be 3 things she loves this year,
Her sweet little smile will bring anyone lots of cheer.

Anna, our fifth-born is a big 5 year old,
And the amount of words she shares in a day, no container will ever hold.
Her imagination and creativity continues to astound us,
As she plays baby dolls, doctor or pretends to be her favorite princess.

Micah, our soon-to-be 3 year old, keeps us all laughing,
As he plays choo-choos and car-cars and any other boy thing.
He follows his big brothers around wherever they go,
And always manages to entertain us with a silly show.

Rich is amazing, my hard-working hunk who is oh, so handsome!
He loves to garden and produces delicious fruit & veggies with his green thumb.
Or you may find him behind the wheel of Wilbur, our RV,
Taking his family on wild adventures showing us our Creator’s creativity.

And finally, Julie, (that’s me - wife, mother and teacher extraordinaire),
Realizes more each day the power of Christ and a life lived in prayer.
‘Cause parenting, teaching and training the hearts of these blessings in our crew,
Is the hardest and most rewarding thing I have yet had to do!

So now, ‘in closing’ (aren’t those sweet words to hear?),
We pray that you will have a blessed New Year.
Celebrate Jesus and the gift of His birth,
Without Him we would have no hope here on earth.

He came, He lived, He died, He lives again,
He did it all to take away the stench of our sin.
Submit your lives to to God. You won’t regret it,
Best decision we’ve ever made, we must admit.

Merry Christmas!
