Jacob's surgery Day!

Well we did it!  Or rather, Jacob did it.  I am not sure why I am so daft but I made a mistake and signed up to be On-call for the hospital last night until 8:00am.  Jacob's surgery was scheduled for 6:00am.  So I had a problem.  Fortunately, a co-worker graciously offered to cover for the few hour overlap this morning.  Needless to say, I didn't sleep a WINK.  I think I was up all night.  But Jacob did so well.  He has bounced back and is already asking for Chips.  Which the dr. has forbidden.  Soft foods only for this boy.  For those of you who didn't know, Jacob had surgery to remove his prosthesis.  This prosthesis has become a part of this kid.  The Dentist said that he had food and garbage PACKED up under the prosthesis.  No wonder his breath has been so rank for the past two years!  I made the doctor keep the prosthesis and I brought it home for a souvenir.  I can't tell you how refreshing it was to put that little puppy into some denture cleaner to soak.  What a great day!  Jacob also had tubes placed to alleviate the constant fluid in his ears. It is amazing how resilient these little ones are.  The only effects so far that he has experienced is a lot of sleepiness (which is welcome) and bit of a speech difference.  He sounds a little off, kind of like when you have a really sore throat and you talk and find protecting your throat?  That is what he sounds like.  I think it will go away though.  Jacob is scheduled for "the big One" next month on February 18th.  That is when they will repair the hole that is still in the roof of his mouth.  (hard palate)  Bone grafts come later.
Anyway, pics are graphic so if you get sick, look away!
