Anzac Day

Week 8 commences. It was a busy 2 weeks, compared to Chemical it's.. wait can't be compared, Chemical schedule is just crazily packed. After completing labs after labs, reports after reports and test after test, there is still reports, assignments and lab test yet to be completed.

Today is Anzac Day, a day where the Australians commemorate those who died and served in military. From Wiki, Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand, and is commemorated by both countries on 25 April every year to honour members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought at Gallipoli in Turkey during World War I. This is one of the few festivals Aus has a holiday for, compared to Malaysia the holidays they have here is really scarce. Only for Easter, Anzac and Christmas, oh and New Years, are declared as public holidays.

Take a look at the picture:

First look when i saw, i thought it was an apple, until i looked closer and saw it was a plum. Being really intrigued about the shape, i took a bite and I have been hooked up on it ever since, been buying it every week. It's really sweet and juicy compared the one they had back in Malaysia. Now in season is mandarin oranges, but the one sold here are just not as nice as the one you can get back Malaysia. It was really funny seeing my neighbor, an Aussie eating Mandarin orange while i was eating plum. :)

Great Ocean Road

Finally managed to visit the great grand Great Ocean Road. Well, it was a day filled with exciting events, not only during the tour, but things that happened before and after the tour. It started out that I woke up at 5am to prepare food for the trip, sandwiches. I was really tired and sleepy then.

Then we had to rush to catch the bus, because KY woke up late. 1 minute when we arrived at the bus stop, the bus came. Unfortunately all 3 of us has no change, and only had a 50 Aud; the bus driver refuse to accept it, so we had to punch in a 2 hour zone 2 card and had to buy another zone 1 daily card. Then we rushed up the next train we saw, instead of going straight to Flinders St, it took a detour to Melbourne Central first. And when the next stop was supposed to be Flinders St, the sign states that it is going to Flagstaff, and stop in the midway of the railway track. Lucky for us, we managed to rush to the bus terminal and boarded the bus. They were rather efficient seeing that they actually credited the trip from the card, whether we show up or not.

The bus was rather nice, and the bus drive cum tour guide was rather entertaining. He was not too bad, except when he was driving through the hills, he was driving rather fast, and it made me slightly nausea. The road we took was the scenic road, and the view was really pretty. We visited the 12 Apostles, which to my opinion was just another few limestones, but the view there was breath catching. The Loch Ard Gorge has a small beach, not the best beach i have been to, but it was nice because it was enclosed. The story behind this Loch Ard Gorge was that a ship Loch Ard ran aground and only two survived. The London Bridge, which was a cliff which collapsed midway, had a story too, actually more like a scandal. There was a couple, the boss and his secretary went on a 'business' trip to the London Grotto where it collapsed and the couple was stranded there. His wife found out airing through TV how they were stranded there alone. Wonder what happened then?

When we got back to the city, we went to Ben's house, KY friend and we just had to tag along. >< Well, got to say Ben is a rather good chef, and i learned how to cook something new yesterday. The trip back from his house was terrible. It was pouring the whole night, and we had to walk to catch the bus and tram. It was a tiresome night, actually a tiring day to be exact.

Easter Monday

The starting of the Mid Sem break. I woke up feeling contempt, discontent of losing something that i once have, hating the fact that i have to give it up. Sucky feeling. Yet it comes with a feeling of sorrow.

Well, after all today is Ching Ming.

Seeing incense dont exist here, nether is candle allowed. Hopefully this do. Cant seem to be able to find the online 'bai san' thing.

Easter Sunday

Went to visit my aunt in Endeavour Hills to grab some of my stuffs, but was hanging around there. Well, since its Easter, it was one whole day filled with good food. YUM! :) In the afternoon, we went to climb the Kokoda Trail - 1000 steps. It was not too bad, no sweat for me, i didn't break out a sweat. After that, we were at home watching Confucius, which was a headache, cause i cannot listen to Chinese that well, and the English subtitle kinda suck.

Dinner was at Pavilion, which has really really good, freaking GOOD cake, especially Chocolate Mousse and Toblerone cake. :)

Easter Saturday

Second day of MSB,we decided to be try out the Casino here. Finally able to walk into one! But the Casino looks so different of how I would have imagined it. The whole place was filled with slot machine, and some tables for the basic card games, roulette etc. The slot machine was rather boring in my opinion, no idea how someone can spend the whole day, let alone put a 100 Aud into the machine.

We went to Docklands after that. Australians have a funny sense of humor, they have this art of a cow on a tree. >< Docklands has quite a nice view, near the port with nice yacht.

Good Friday

Celebrating Good Friday in Australia is really different from Malaysia. Actually only the Australian celebrate it while Malaysian dont, the only best thing is its a holiday, and thats all i really care about. I just realised Good Friday is really an important day in Australia where everything is closed even the the hypermarts like Coles and Woolies, unbelievable. >< This reminds me of the Australia Ecownomics i read, quote:"You have 2 cows. Business seems to be going good. You close up shop and go have 2 beers to celebrate." Seriously during this holiday period, everyone is free but everything is close.

Today KY and i went to William Ricketts Sanctuary in Mount Dandenong. The initial plan was to go Great Ocean Road, but i got bailed out. William Ricketts is rather far. We took 2 hours of bus, walk the park for 1 hour and waiting another hour for the bus with another 2 hour journey back. Saying that the trip was really worth it, i wont agree with it, but the park was rather nice. Then we went to Glen Waverly, which everything was CLOSE, except the eateries.

For dinner we went to have fish and chips at Flake Attack, and ice cream at Cold Rock during a rather cold night. The fish and chips were not too bad, just really really salty. The ice cream was just rather big. ><

Well, i guess its just the starting of the MSB, while most of my neighbours went back. But i guess ill be spending most of time studying. SIGH, sucky life, sucky course.
