Chicks again

Floren

 Rue

Penelope (Penny)- she (hopefully a she) is a Chocolate Maran- she should lay chocolate colored eggs.

Rosie- she is the same breed our that our two roosters were.  An Americana- she should lay Easter egg colored eggs.

Yes, we got a few more chicks.  No, we are not crazy.  Well, not unless they all turn out to be hens.  I'm banking on at least one of them being a rooster.  Remember last time- of the six we had one taken by a hawk and 2 that ended up being roosters?

We have LOVED the chickens.  We love having fresh eggs.  Not one has ever been wasted.  That's part of why we got a few more.  We wanted to have eggs to share with other people.  It is so fun having something to give someone- especially something you know is good for them and they can enjoy.

Elliott's been asking for a few more chicks since the last crew grew up.  So we figured why not.  2 we know are hens (at least that is what they tell us)- 2 we are not sure about.  They could not be sexed- so odds are 50/50.  We have been wanting certain breeds- they lay special colored eggs- but they can't sex them until they are older and we didn't want older chickens (they are ugly.  You see, my theory is that if you get them when they are cute and fluffy you fall in love with them, then when they change and get a little ugly you still love them because they were yours when they were cute.- so far my theory has been good.  I love my older hens.  I don't go out and love on them like E does, but I do think they are pretty great.)  We hope to have 2 more in the end really- so with our odds- all 4 will end up being hens.  In that case, we may be knocking on your door asking you to take one or two of them.....

Jog-a-thoner

We had our annual jog-a-thon at school.  The kids LOVE this day!  They start with a Parade of the countries.  E's class was China.

Elliott was cracking me up.  One minute he was TOTALLY into the race and running his fastest- very serious, the next he was messing around with his buddies.  He had a great time and did a great job!
We were proud of him!

This little lady is the BEST little cheerleader.
A sweet quiet sign holding cheerleader.
Sorry, I don't know what is up with us and the blurry photos!

Star Wars

What little boy doesn't LOVE Star Wars?  Hardly any that I know!  E loves the whole story.  We've had quite the conversations about Star Wars- good vs. evil, choices and decisions one makes that can alter their future.....etc.  Many good things can come from Star Wars.  Or- it's just really fun too.
Our science center had the Star Wars exhibit in town and we had a day off of school.  We took full advantage to get our guy over there.  He'd been wanting to go for quite awhile.

There were multiple hands on things to do.  You could build a little robot and take it from station to station.

A robot that you had to use controls to move it's legs and get it to work.  Definitely harder to do than it looks.

Love this one.   Albeit blurry.

Lastly, you could ride this hover thingy.  E was a little shy to give it a try- but enjoyed it once he did.

All in all, good times at the science center.  One of our favorite places to frequent.  I've got a lover of hands on things and science.  Works out well.

                        LOVE THIS GUY!

Baseball

Baseball- the sport of choice this season.   Karate isn't really an option- we just do it- so E gets to pick his other sport of choice each season.  So far baseball isn't my favorite.  Don't get me wrong- I LOVE seeing him in action- that is..............when..........he's............in...........action.  Baseball is  S   L   O   W.  Slower than slow.  Especially when you have 12 6-7 year olds.

He's pretty awesome.  He has an amazingly strong throw- getting the correct aim is coming along.  When he makes good contact with the ball it's out of the park, (biased momma's thoughts of course) it's awesome.  And of course, I can't help but think he looks so cute in his baseball uniform.  So adorable.

We are excited that Luke is doing baseball too.  Another super cute guy in uniform.  What is about a man in uniform?  So- we've got Luke (The Braves) and Elliott (The Cubs). They won't be playing each other though.

Our first game is Thursday.

Play Ball!

February

Craig had a job in Kauai that came up quickly and I had the opportunity to go with him for a long weekend.  Ede (Craig's mom) was so kind to watch Elliott at such short notice (He had the time of his life- still talking about what they did while we were gone.)  It's been a long time since he has had a job in Hawaii- or anywhere exciting that I was able to tag along with him for a visit. So, anyway, this was a REALLY good opportunity to try my hand at travel on an airplane.  It's been 2 years since I'd flown anywhere and flying with lung issues sucks (sorry, I'm not going to sugar coat how I really feel- kind of tired of doing that.)- REALLY sucks.  I have to fly with oxygen- which in and of itself isn't that huge except that every aspect of doing so is a pain. Seriously.  Hate it.  So, this was a trial trip for me.  Sea level to sea level right?  Right.  That part was good.  It was really stressful- just every aspect of travel- flight travel.  Once in the air and up to altitude is when my oxygen levels drop- so just getting up and going to the bathroom is taxing and stressful.  Think- tight space, no air, gotta pee.  Stressful and frustrating.  I try my best to not have any fluids just so I don't have to move or get up. :-)

I was so grateful to get to Hawaii and be there with Craig.  He is the only person I can imagine living this life with- especially with all my (our) added trial bonuses.  He is the most patient, content, considerate and kind person I've ever known.  He knows me almost better than I know myself, which helps when I'm stressed and having a hard time focusing- he can think for me a bit and help me to do what needs to be done.  Funny that a trip to Hawaii has to be a learning experience huh?  Seems like everything is these days.

So- HAWAII.
Once there, I decided I was going to live a little because I needed to just not be me for a little while.

It was chilly and breezy, which is unusual.  It was beautiful and peaceful.  Hawaii is a wonderful place.  Slow paced and semi-calm.  Almost too calm sometimes being from Orange County.

Kauai is known for it's crazy wild chicken population.  It is hilarious.  Especially being chicken owners ourselves.  I was in love with all of the little baby chicks running around everywhere.  I was dying to catch some of them and bring them home.  As far as wild animals, it could be worse for sure.  Chickens aren't so bad.  They are EVERYWHERE though!
Remember how I said I was going to live a little?  We decided to do a helicopter ride around the island.  I feel like I have hardly lived in the last 10 years of my life.  A helicopter ride to most of you would probably not seem like much, but for me, it was a really big deal.  I was so proud of myself for doing something- anything really.   It was awesome.  Kauai is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen.  Lush and beautiful- untouched spots of land- hard to reach places.  It made me long for the day that
I can hike and be physical again and explore the world.

I couldn't help but think of the Bachelor and Bachelorette show when we were in the helicopter.  Too funny.

Seriously- How BEAUTIFUL is that?

My hot guy!

Hawaii is a beautiful place.  The company was the best part- as long as I get to be with Craig it doesn't matter where I am.  I couldn't have asked for a better last trip for awhile.

My little love

When my brother Josh (the photographer) was in town he took some adorable family photos for my sister Shelly.  I was looking through them the other day and found this shot of my guy.  I love that somehow he snuck his little self into their shoot.

He wore his hat like that all day- wouldn't change it- he was cracking me up.
Love, love, love HIM!
