Oh My Shelties

Deirdre's Children - our nephews in New Orleans . . . Higgins, Maggie and Chaucer.
Better picture but low light. We love when they come to visit-they actually get along well (now). Kevin really likes Higgins, they are big pals.

Ode to Shelby the Sheltie

Some people think Shelby is left out of the spolight. I'm here to tell you that she, in fact, is not. Shelby, while very affectionate and loyal, is also THE fastest canine I have ever met. She is so focused and a better retriever than the Red one. Shelby is truly a joy and she and Banana are monkey see, monkey do.

End of the barrel

Sunday night Gary and I stayed at the Waldorf Astoria. It was gorgeous and convenient to several places.

Park Avenue
Gary and I had dinner at La Mangeoire Sunday night - small and very French. The best Chocolate Mousse I have ever tasted. C'est tres bon!
Monday all we really had time for was a quick drive around a few other sections we had not yet seen and brunch. We met Chardie and Gepetto at a restaurant called Pastis, a place that came with high recommendations. It met and exceeded those expectations. The food in this city is so yummy. Good times were had by all.

Cold Apples

Sunday it was so bitterly cold-wind gusts of up to 50mph. We went to St. Patrick's Cathedral, down 5th Avenue and dropped in a few shops, then Central Park, stopped by the Ritz for Afternoon Tea, and then stopped in the Playwright's Tavern.
Times Square
Central Park - we wanted to take a carriage ride but it was just too darn cold.

More Apples

That night our old friend John Kitchens, Dirty John as you may know him, drove up from DC. We had dinner at the Sea Grill overlooking the ice rink at Rockefeller Center. We had the chef's tasting menu paired with various wines, it was excellent. We ran in NBC Studios where they were taping SNL and also in the Fox building where Richard works.
We made it back to Queens around 12am and decided to head to the Irish Cottage for one drink . . .
Many beers and Harvey Wallbangers later, Walk the Line came on the jukebox and the tambourine seemed like a great idea. The bartender's claim to fame was that he used to be on Boy Meets World. He was actually really great even though that show is so terrible I've never seen it.
We did not see Babalou or his hat or John Lennon.
While we were there, snow was pouring down. It was beautiful. To finish the evening, we had ourselves a good ole snowball fight. This was the highlight of the trip.

The Big Apple . . . Part 3

Saturday the weather was absolutely nasty-windy, very rainy, and cold. We went to Battery Park -
This used to stand between the two World Trade Centers and now sits in Battery Park as a historical site.
If you look closely you will see the Statue of Liberty-the fog prevented us from seeing her and Ellis Island.

The Big Apple . . . Part II

Chardie met us for dinner after he got off of work at Cafe Napoli in Little Italy. The menu was extensive and so tasty. Try the Tiramisu!
Later we went to McSorely's - one of the oldest bars in NYC. They are known for serving two mugs at a time, you choose Dark or Light, they brew their own. Also known for sawdust on the floors.

We also ventured to Red Rock West - but didn't take any pictures. RRW is a place similar to Coyote Ugly.

The Big Apple . . . Part I

This past weekend we took a trip to NYC to visit Richard and to sightsee. It was a blast.
We flew in Friday late afternoon and went to Wall Street / Financial District.

Saw the Exchange and since it was dark the picture taking was a bit challenging.

The Bull.

We also saw the World Trade Center Memorial - no pictures though.

Hoops

Last night Gary, Mr. Vaughan and I went to the Alabama vs. Auburn basketball game. Fans came in droves for the game which was a sellout. Lots of turnovers and some sloppy play on both sides. After leading most of the game, Auburn was not able to hang on and win (Bama took the lead with about 1:45 left). So the highlight of the game I suppose was the Iron Bowl trophy presentation at half time, pictured left. A little fuzzy, yes, but considering I used my cell phone,
not too bad.

The other highlight of the game would have to be this nice young Alabama fan who sat behind us. Everytime he would get up and cheer, he had to pull his shirt down and his sweatpants up. Unfortunately, I could not get this unique routine on film.

2006 - Year of the Blog

We have done it. We are now a part of this blogging madness. Not sure what prompted this creation . . . maybe the viewing of some of our friends' blogs that are really quite entertaining. New year, new blog? Whatever the reason, here we go.
