Thanksgiving Day Feast

I may have cooked the turkey but these two boys helped me prepare and serve! Grateful!
We only had 8 kids to worry about.  The weather was great, so we stuck them outside.  Notice the shorts and t-shirts?  The weather is uncanny!
 Aunt Judy & The Hendersons
 The Carters and Grumpy
 Jake, Nana and I
 GG & the Websters
Nana and her favorite 3rd Grade Boys!

I made the entire Thanksgiving dinner this year.  PHEW!  I made the regulars: Turkey, stuffing and rolls.  I made homemade cranberry orange sauce (which will be a permanent feature in this house!), mashed potatoes, quinoa with butternut squash, bacon Brussels sprouts and pumpkin pie.  I'm sure there were green beans somewhere and I know an Apple Pie from Apple Hill was cooked.  It was a good, full day!

This year I seriously slacked on having the kids talk about what we are thankful for but we are truly thankful for so many things.  First and foremost, we are thankful for our family!  We have loved having more time together and relaxing at home or taking rides.  We are thankful that we have cousins and grandparents who live close and who we get to see regularly.  We are grateful for those who are our friends who seem like family!  We are thankful for our home.  It isn't much but it is ours, it keeps us safe and warm.  And we do have some pretty fun neighbors!  We are grateful we get to go to school and learn and read!  We are grateful for Daddy's job!  And we are grateful to know that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Thanksgiving Week Fun! Apple Hill Day

We had a ridiculous amount of fun over Thanksgiving break!  Originally the plan was to only have one family from out of town come visit but plans changed and we got to see our Auntie Em and the Henderson clan!  It was super fun to catch up with Conor, Christine and Ashley and the Hendersons who had recently fled the great state of CA and our favorite Great Grandma Bonnie.  We played all day (and sometimes all night).  It was awesome!!

Dueling Tantrums

I cannot even remember why these two beauties were both throwing tantrums at the same time.  I believe it had to do with who got to use a certain plate?  Ah, yes, they wanted to both use a plate.  There were two of these little plates with fishes on them.  But one of them has a scratch mark and neither of my princesses wanted to use the plate with the scratch.  Oh the joys!

My Cuties & throwing it together

My sister Tara called and asked if she could stay at our home for Thanksgiving week.  The carpet got put in on Tuesday and we had until Sunday to get things thrown together...what a whirlwind.

In other news, I LOVE when my girls are super cute like this:

Violet's "Librarian" look!

My friend stopped by after her run and had a muscle pain.  I don't have a roller so I lent her my rolling pin to roll it out.  Abby decided to copy.  :)

FAME

One of the things I enjoy volunteering at the school for is called FAME.  It stands for Fine Arts & Music Education.  On a monthly basis, I help introduce the kids to a different artist and composer.  I think this past month was one of my most favorites though.  We talked about Michelangelo.  And so our art project was taping paper on the bottom of the desks, laying down and coloring just like Michelangelo did for 4 years in the Sistine Chapel.

9 YEARS OLD!

WOW! We have been parents for NINE years!  I cannot begin to describe what a challenging and rewarding this experience it is.  But that's not what this is for, this is about HIM!

Xander: LOVES to read and watch TV.  He'll read anything--he reads his sisters princess books and his Percy Jackson books.  He loves Capital Mysteries, Geronimo Stilton, I Survived and Percy Jackson, Percy Jackson, Percy Jackson.  For his birthday Nana & Grumpy took Xander to a Percy Jackson at Fairy Tale Town.  It wasn't quite what he had hoped for but he had a good time.  And he'll watch anything too...he'll sit with his sisters and watch Elmo and Barney but he prefers Ninjago Chima or Wild Kratts.

Xander is a GREAT big brother!  He has his favorites depending on the day but he tried really hard to spend time with each of them.

Xander loves his friends.  And he loves school.  PE is his favorite part of the week but he loves Math and Science and Spanish.  He has a great teacher this year who is really challenging him to slow down and pay attention to detail.

Xander is really growing into a young man and helping more around the house and asking for more responsibility.  Again, we are so blessed to have him in our family and since I only got one boy--I feel truly blessed that I got him!  But lest we forget that he is 9...just ask him something that he doesn't agree with and you may get this look:

For his special day we brought him Subway (his request) and enjoyed some one on one time at lunch

Happy #9 Xander!

No real theme this year.  This boy wanted some science mixed in with a movie night.
So I made some stadium seating:
We bought some goggles for the science experiments
And I made all the boys take a picture BEFORE the party got started
We started the night out with science fun!  I picked up a microwave for $20 and we had fun microwaving different things: eggs, soap, grapes, and of course, foil.  The boys had a lot of fun watching the different things.  I only wish that we had had more!

Then we used dry ice to blow up balloons.  These 3 boys got their balloons to be HUGE!!

Yah, I think that this boy had a fabulous time!

I am extremely thankful that I have at least ONE boy!  Xander is a bundle of fun.  He loves life!  He is always looking to learn something new and have fun.  We are so blessed to have him in our family!

Veterans Day Parade

We joined up with some friends and had a great time snatching candy and watching friends pass by!
