On the List

New arrivals on my list of "Don't do again":
1. Play hide-and-sneak with a little boy wearing camoflauge.
(Don't fret, we were in our back yard.)
2. Give Eskimo kisses to a baby with a cold.

Mountain Colors

Sunday morning, the boys woke up with colds. Since we couldn't take them to the nursery, KiSA suggested that we drive up to the mountains and see the fall colors. It is only a 1 1/2 hour drive up there.

We had a wonderful time. It was so beautiful, and the boys had a good time. They were great in the car (we stopped often, too) and didn't get fussy until the very end. It was very nice to get off our beaten path and just spend some time together.

I made up a game with SK. We made a list of all the colors we could think of, and checked them off the list when we saw them. It was kind of like a scavenger hunt. Of course, the big thrill was driving through the tunnels and honking the horn with the windows down.

KiSA found a new route that doesn't take as long, and we saw some cabins and hiking trails that are only 30-45 minutes from home. We hope to return to them in the spring and do some camping.

Fall Colors

In a happy (and unusual) coincidence, I had matching clothes for the boys to wear on Sunday.

Papaw made this rocking horse many years ago. We were blessed to be the latest recipients of it. Once WB figured out he could make it move all by himself, there was no stopping him.

Tall tales and Fishing

SK demonstrates a practice cast. Just in case you can't see, this is the famous Scooby Doo fishing pole.

Then it's story time.

He has taken to napping in odd places. Here he is under his bed. And here he is asleep inside his sleeping bag, inside his closet. I guess there are some things about which we will never know the answer.

Ten Months

Well, we are five-sixths of the way through WB's first year. I cannot believe it!
He got two more teeth, both on top, about two weeks ago. And Saturday, he took his first step! Is it just me, or is picture bear looking quite a bit smaller than he did 9 months ago?
He has crawled onto the hearth, and is trying to get a leg up on almost everything. He's going vertical!
On a beautiful afternoon last week, while playing in the back yard, I found a new genre: photography while wrestling.

WB hasn't yet shown an interest in gardening, but he still looks good with a wheelbarrow. He likes to walk behind SK's tricycle and car and walk while pushing them.
SK does enjoy digging in the dirt. His magic beans are growing better than anything else in the garden!
We've introduced WB to shoes. It's been fun for me to go through SK's outgrown things and pull out all his little baby shoes. I don't think that WB thought it was as much fun to wear them. But he quickly realized that he could go faster outside with them on.
We love being outside!

Left, Right, Left

KiSA says he saw WB take a step all by himself today.

And when we were at dinner, he made the sign for light and tried to say it. He got very close.

It is so much fun to watch him learn about the world!

Tooth No. Three

Tooth number three finally poked through. It is on the upper left hand side. Two of its neighbors--numbers four and five--are not far behind. I think the shape of his face has changed a bit, what with the new bones in his mouth and all.

It reminds me of something D.H. (music minister deluxe and producer of The Promise for years, some of you know who I'm referring to) used to say when we were in rehearsals. To encourage improvisation based on our roles, he'd say, "Well, don't just stand there with your teeth in your mouth!"

But that is precisely what I am so proud of my little WonderBoy for doing: standing, with his teeth in his mouth.
