Cousin Love

On Sunday night, Katie Mae invited us all over to her way too cute house for some games. The Kissinger children were loud, rough, and rowdy, totally relieving the fear that school had knocked their square pegs too firmly into round holes. It is so fun being together as grown-ups, with out the grown-ups there to supervise!

Aubrey was the sweetest hostess in the world. First, she set us all up with napkins. Next, she came around with one cookie for each. If you declined a cookie, she was severely disappointed and her mouth twisted for a moment in a socially-appropriate mild way, and then quickly went back to a smile for the next cookie offering. Round two of cookies came around. Last, popcorn was taken around, which Ashley ended up keeping in the bowl on her lap, and Aubrey removed after she felt Ashley had had enough. Aubrey is seriously ready to hire out.

I apologize to Alexa for August's body odor. She is 8 and doesn't care enough to self manage the issue. And she loves older girls too much to not climb all over them, poor monkey. We dipped her in lye as soon as we got home.

The girl cousins are all so beautiful now. I wish this camaraderie for ever with our beloved Leland cousins!

New Lamps

I just got two new lamps w/ shades to flank our bed and I am super de duper jazzed about them! Especially after 14 years of mis-matched, half-working, thrift-store ones! (P.S. Every other lamp in my house, except my prized two front room lamps, are thrift store lamps, and I'm cool with that. Just hard to get great matching ones, you know?)

Down side, comments say "fragile". We are going to need an FHE STAT. TOPIC: Mom's Lamps, LESSON: how we avoid their proximity like the plague.

Merry Christmas

David and I had the "opportunity" to spend Christmas with just our little family in New Orleans this year and while the experience was memorable, if we could have we would have been in Utah. We missed everyone so much! We have been so spoiled in years past without even knowing it. Living out here we have gained an even greater appreciation for the wonderful gift of Family. Heavenly Father knew we would need each other. I'm so glad to count you all as part of that family. Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and will have a Happy New Year(JoJo stay strong this year in making it to midnight, I'll be there in spirit. Maybe Reagan will join you now that she is a mom).
Love you all!
Emily

Just Browsing...

While innocently searching "Christmas Stories" in our library search engine, I was shocked and appalled to find out quite a nice collection of the 1600 books found are smut!

But I have to share the awesome titles, they are too good to miss. For heaven's sakes, who imagines up this drivel that's meant to suck you right in to your wildest dreams? It's hilarious.  Just don't google the book covers.
  • Cowboy Under My Christmas Tree (There are lots of cowboy titles. Who knew we were all pining for cowboys?)
  • Mistletoe and the Lost Stiletto
  • Hers for the Holidays; Hot for the Holidays
  • Santa Baby
  • Kisses on Her Christmas List
  • Snowflake Bride
  • The Holiday Nanny
  • A Season of Seduction
  • I'm Your Santa (I prefer this direct approach, don't you?)

And my favorite:
  • His First Noelle
    • [Then in tiny print at the bottom] ...and his last!

P.S. I've just come up with the best idea. I say we write our own romance but make it totally ridiculous. Write a paragraph and then pass it on to each other until the story ends. Tragically? Happily? Who's with me!

Compliment?

Rusty and I were divide-and-conquer shopping at Winco. He had August, I had all three wrestling boys. At check out, he said the deli gal said "Your daughter is so beautiful!" Pause. Father proud moment.
Then she continued with, "Reminds me of Lindsay Lohan!"  Yikes.

Good Times

A memory that made me laugh out loud this morning at the gym:

It's three o'clock in the morning. I've got several layers on top and my way-too-revealing running tights on bottom to shield me from colpo d'aria. Reagan's itunes are blasting away in my head and for added warming up measure, I can't help but allow the beat to resonate deep down in my bones. Bryan is valiantly supporting both me and her mother, who should be arriving from her night leg any minute now. Besides a few other quiet supporters and a couple more runners warming up for their turn to vanish off into the abyss, we are alone in a northern californian world that we are wholey unfamiliar with. My subtle body-bobbing slowly transforms into full hip rolls, bum thrusts and elbow swinging--I am gettin' down, as they say. Bryan starts up a chat with the very proud husband of a (apparently faster than me) runner, while trying to ignore my embarrasing behavior. I don't see the cute thing at first but to combat his wife-braggin' attempts, I up the ante in my dancing and exclaim, "But can she do this!"  He quiets with, "well, no." Aha!

After at least 15 minutes of this (and that), I am getting worried that Leslie is lost. We were deep into discussing our utah roots when I interupt with, "She should have been here by now." My dancing slows and eventually stops. The Proud Husband explains how Leslie's leg is long and hilly and hard and that this leg will be fairly easy, and I insist that, "No, her's is actually quite short and flat. But my leg, which is also your wife's, is going to be hilly, and long and hard. And even though she may be faster, she can't do this [hip roll]!" He continues to insist the opposite until Bryan and I have the same flash of lightning--WE ARE AT THE WRONG EXCHANGE!

In have an instant we look at each other, take off in a full sprint to the car (me more prepared for that than her), while we catch a faint yet pathetic "Good Luck!" from the chatty duo.

The story ends in finding Leslie, twenty-five minutes into chilling in her own sweat, with a fake worry and frown (to fool the disdainful volunteers and snearing runners) and me jumbling my vest/headlight/ipod/batan only to happily vanish off into the abyss with the best night-leg warm-up of the decade.

Book Journal!

Ladies, Do you know about librarything.com? Finally, a book journal online! I'm excited because I always forget the books I've read and somehow that seems sad to me because they become a part of who I am for a while--maybe forever! I did have my account private (K.K. is my name), but maybe I'll make it public so I can see get some good recommends from you! I know Good Reads is a great site for that, but I was mostly looking to make a personal catalog. Anyway...just an FYI!

(A lot of !'s. Can you tell I'm excited!)

Wowsers

Just saw these and was amazed. That bridge/road would give me a heart attack, I'd love to live in a hobbit home and who wouldn't want to jump across a river (I'd just need depends to make it with my bladder)? Have a fabulous week!

Things I Find Inexplicably Cute

The word crabby.
We always use it for the toddlers who wake up on the wrong side of the bed.
   .....
Squirrels that stare at you.
I start to wonder what they are thinking and like to put pretend thought bubbles above them.
.....

Erica Schmidt and Peter Dinklage.
Sadly, his last name is Dinklage.
But beside that...they just had a daughter and I think they're cute.

Emmy Awards PDA 2012!: Peter Dinklage and Erica Schmidt
.....
Stamps. Nothing better than putting a letter in the mail.
Except putting the letter in the mail with personally-picked stamp.

Okay, now I'm getting into things that are beautiful, and that isn't the same as inexplicably cute. Really, the whole reason I started this was because of the Erica and Peter photo I saw. Also this blog needs some action. The end.

Illustrations to Unwritten Books

I couldn't get "Silence of the Pams" or "Northanger Cabbie" in, so you'll have to scroll through the gallery sets 1, 2, 3, and 4. Wouldn't it be fun to sit in the sun wiht Chris Riddell and brainstorm these? In England no less.
