31 March

There are some robins outside digging through the mulch. They are bobbing their heads and throwing sticks to either side. They are taking a few steps every few seconds so there are little trenches in the mulch behind them. They are probably looking for bugs or something, but it looks funny. I wonder if birds ever feel like they have to settle on a different food if it is cold. Like, are they only digging through the mulch because there are no worms or berries or birdfeeders around? Do birds have preferences and resort to nasty foods when the good stuff is not available?

Also, I have seen more cardinals here in the last month than in the rest of my life all together.
