The Futon

We've been wanting to get a futon to put in our extra room/office so that visitors could have somewhere to sleep.  There aren't too many places nearby to buy furniture so I decided to look online. After having a hard time finding a Queen sized futon for a good price I luckily stumbled upon overstock.com. They had a ton of queen sized futon frames and mattress on there website. So, doing a sort of mix and max deal I bought a futon frame and mattress for $325 dollars. Because, they weren't sold as a set they didn't ship out on the same day. The mattress was scheduled to arrive Tuesday and the frame yesterday.  FedEx dropped of the mattress Tuesday, right on schedule, but we were a little confused to receive 2 mattresses. Weird, I only ordered 1.  After contemplating what to do with the extra mattress I sent an email to overstock Wednesday telling them that they sent us an extra mattress and that we were more than happy to return it as long as we didn't have to pay anything to get it back to them. Thursday, I found their response to my email in my inbox  thanking us for our honesty and they issued a call tag, so UPS would come pick up the extra mattress in the next couple of days.  Maybe a half an hour later FedEx drops off 2 futon frames. Seriously, what did overstock.com do that they accidentally sent me my order twice. These are neither small nor inexpensive items.  Well, I sent them another email and they responded by issuing a call tag for the frame as well. Great, UPS could come pick up both of these items and get them out of my house at the same time. WRONG! UPS stops by earlier today, the driver only has a call tag for the frame. He didn't have one for the mattress.  So now the frame is gone and I still have the mattress. So, I sent another email to overstock.com making sure they really did issue a call tag for the mattress. We'll see if someone comes and gets it another day.

Greg resting on the futon after working hard to assemble it
Anyway, we put the futon together last night. Well, Greg did most of the work and it was a lot of work. We were both pretty tired after assembling it.  I just have to say this Futon is HUGE. It looks nice and seems comfy and will definitely be adequate accommodations for any visitors we get. Today, I went all over the place looking for sheets and pillow cases. The goal was to find some pillow cases that matched the mattress and could pass as throw pillows when the sheets weren't on. I was lucky enough to find a blueish turquoise and white sheet set and Burlington Coat Factory for cheaper than anything that Walmart or Target had.  Even better is that the turquoise looks good with the brown and the white pattern they will match the extra white comforter that we have stored in our closet. We're pleased with the futon, even after the hassle of dealing with shipping back the extra items.

Baby Showers

First of all, my little sister threw me a baby shower in september (yeah, this post is long over due) so a big, big thanks to her for everything! She even provided the plane tickets to get me out to Colorado. And a big thanks to my mom and my grandmas for helping her out with the food. It was really fun trip (even though, I was away from Greg for 4 days)and it was really nice to see my family and friends.
The shower was really fun. There was of course food, games, presents (blankets, clothes, bottles, books, a large variety of jungle stuffed animals, etc.)and a cute cupcake cake that my mom got. It was also a great chance to visit with people that I don't get to see very often anymore.

My sister also got a scrapbook and a bunch of papers, stickers, and various other scrapbooking supplies so that everyone could make a page layout, (or two or three) for a scrapbook for the baby. The best part about it is all I have to do is add pictures of the baby to the pages they made. I don't have to design pages myself (unless I take a lot of pictures, which will probalby happen) atleast not that many. Yeah, this baby is going to have a pretty awesome scrapbook. Some of my friends are pretty much professionals when it comes to scrapbooking.

Here are a few more pictures of the fun event:
Second, I have to say my ward at church is pretty much amazing. Everyone has been so friendly and welcoming. They have also been super supportive in making sure we have everything we need for the baby. One sister, Merissa, is expecting her 6th (and last child).Since she is having a girl she let me go through all of her boy clothing and take anything that I wanted. I t was great since two of her boys were born late fall early winter. All of the sizes match up with the right seasons for our little boy.Another sister, Karen, used to run a day care but retired in december. She gave me some of the stuff she still had left over. She gave me a swing, a bouncer, and even one of these things:
Last Night one of my visiting teachers, Janie, threw me a baby shower. She really bent over backwards to make it a fun and fancy event. I do have to say that see must host parties a lot because the first thing I noticed when I got to her house (other than the fact that it's a HUGE mansion) was the fancy hors d'ouevres (and I mean fancy, she took a block of brie and baked it inside of some bread dough)and the cupcake stand (seriously, who owns a cupcake stand other than somebody who likes to hosts parties.) The cupcakes were cute with Mother's Circus Animal cookies on top for decoration. She even made some adorable little party favors for every one. White chocolate covered mint oreos. She used candy molds to cover them so they have little animal faces on them. She even put animal stickers on the cups for the spiced cider.
We of course played a couple of games. The first game was the classic guess what kind of baby food is in the jar. I failed at that one, which is okay because only one person got all six jars right anyway. For the other game Janie made a baby supplies wreath and hung diapers, pacifiers, socks mittens, little board books and all sorts of other baby stuff on it. she showed it to everyone in the room and then took it out of the room and them everyone had to write down eveything they could remeber that was on the wreath.
I ended up taking home the wreath, and the jars of baby food (they still had the labels on them, she just covered them in ribbon for the games, so I don't have to guess what flavors they are several monts down the road. I also ended up with some great gifts: more clothes, hooded towels, a couple of sleeper sacks, diapers, blankets, baby spoons, diapers, bibs, a stocking for baby's first christmas, nursing pads and lanolin, diaper garbage bags, diapers, a garanimals puppy, a picture frame, baby wash and lotion, and lots of diapers.
Here are a few more pictures:

I ended up with some of the decorations from the shower and thought they'd look cute in baby's room

It's Finished!

Hurray! I finished the Noah's Ark blanket for baby last night.  I didn't think I was going to finish it last night or really plan on finishing it last night. At about a quarter to ten I had just one Elephant left to sew on and I figured I'd leave it for today, but then Greg started the new episode NCIS: Los Angeles and I decided I might as well sew on the last animal if I was going to stay up watching TV anyway. So it's finished. Now, I'm not sure what I'm going to do with myself to keep busy now. I need to crochet a few more baby hats that I said I'd make for a few people but I can make those rather quickly so that's only a day's worth of work at the most. I suppose I could clean my house or something....

35

Well, 35 is the magic number. We've made it 35 weeks and we've got 35 days to go until this little boy comes.

I also tried to do a little mini phot shoot with myself and here are a couple of pictures I think turned out okay. I keep telling Greg we need to go to a park so he can take some good belly pictures of me in a nice setting. Maybe it will happen.

34 weeks

Only 42 more days to go, or six weeks, or one month and 11 days...However you want to count it, it equals our little boy is almost here.

Fall Fun

Saturday we went to the Corley Ranch Fall Festival and Corn Maze. We had a lot of fun. Now the corn maze wasn't difficult at all.  It was small and definately designed for small children but it was stil fun. It was easy to fin your way out but that wasn't the goal (which was nice because you  didn't feel like you were lost and didn't get stuck inside for hours. THe goal of the maze was to answer all of the questions that they had hiding through out the maze to win a prize. The festival also had some vendors, food, a little train for kids, a pumpkin patch, bounce house (also for kids), a lot of other stuff for little kids and pig races. Yes pig races. They got the pigs to race by sending them after Oreo Cookies.

Oh Baby!

Only 50 more days to go!
We are definately starting to feel like this baby is getting closer. Monday night we had our last child birth education class at the hospital. So, there was supposed to be one more class next week but since we were the only couple that showed up this week (no thanks to the bad weather) the nurse that was teaching the class covered everything she needed to with us and took us on a tour of the maternity ward so we wouldn't have to come back next week. I do have to say the one-on-one was was really nice and we got a lot out of class on Monday.  Visiting the maternity ward was an interesting experience. First of all, it was eerily empty (so was the rest of the hospital.) I think there were only two labor and delivery rooms being used.  The nurse showed us around. Showed us where the waiting room was, where the nursery was, where the triage was and showed us one of the labor and delivery rooms. The rooms were SUPER nice.  You get to stay in the same room for labor, delivery, and recovery (unless you have a c-section or too many ladies are having babies) and the baby gets to stay with you, not in the nursery. The rooms were very cozy there's a shower and a bathtup in the bathroom. The room was complete with a rocking chair, another cushy chair, a mini fridge, microwave, tv with a dvd player, a cush bench seat that doubled as a bed for dad, and a little corner desk for a laptop.  Seeing the room definiatley made me feel a little more comfortable about having this baby. Visiting the maternity ward didn't quite have the same effect for Greg. The fact that there was a screaming baby in the back ground the whole time seemed to make Greg a little more nervous about this having a babything. We've also both been having a lot of baby dreams since starting this class. We got back home late that night, but thankgoodness we don't have to drive out to the hospital next week for another class. The hospital is about 30 minutes away or so and makes for a long way. Not to mention my Ob/Gyn is right next to the hospital and the trips that way are getting more and more frequent. We were feeling a little more prepared after that class, so yesterday I went through all the papers the nurse gave us and took out the birth plan sheet and started to write out one of my own. All feelings of preparedness gone! It just opened  up a lot of question that I need to ask my doctor on my next visit...
With baby getting closer we are also getting  more excited. Last night baby was moving around quite a bit when we climbed into bed so "played games" with baby. We would press on m y belly for a couple seconds and then baby would kick back in the same spot. It sure made me smile. This morning I was laying on my left side with a hot pad thrown over my right hip (oh the joys of hip pain) baby must of thought it was too warm because he moved over to my left side away from the heat. Let me tell you this sure is making it all seem a little more real. There's a baby in there with a mind of his own. I can't wait to meet him! And the million dollar question "Have we picked a name yet?"  We've pretty much decided on Timothy James (like 95% sure), but we still reserve the right to change our minds so I'm not going to say that we've officially chosen a name. You here that. IT'S NOT OFFICIAL.
Now, I'm not one to put up a blog post without pictures so I figure I've talked enough about this Noah's ark blanket I'm making that I might as well post on my progress with a picture. I'm making really good progress. Obviously, the actual blanket is done. I just need to make a couple of elephants and hippos, noah and his wife, a rainbow, a couple of hearts, the words two by two, sew some more buttons to the stars and eyes on the animals, and then sew everything to the blanket. Okay, so it's sounds like a lot now that I put it in a list, but it really shouldn't take me that long to do any single one thing except for maybe sewing everything to the blanket. Sewing by hand really isn't one of my stronger skills.  It'll be cute when it's done.

More Crochet

So I'm going to a baby shower next week for a lady at church and I was trying to decide what I could give as a gift for a girl.  She didn't really want a shower and she doesn't really need any clothes since she already has one girl. I could get diapers because thats what the invitation suggested, but considering there are an insanley large number of people invited to the shower (like 70 and I'm not exagerating) I thought she might get a lot of dipaers and although diapers are much needed and would get used I wanted to give something a little more thoughtful. After pondering for a while I decided to crochet a little hat with some matching Mary Jane style booties using the left over yarn from that rainbow baby blanket I made a few months back. All I needed to get was buttons.  I found some super cute purple flower buttons in a pack of 17 for 3.50.  I'm so proud of how cute hat and booties turned out that I wish I had a little girl I could make some for. After all, I have plenty of buttons.
Well, I don't have a little girl and I liked the buttons too much to let the extras go into storage with out some more use that I decided to at least make myself a pair of new slippers. I have to say counting stitches on the baby booties was much easier since they were so much smaller, but I'm pleased with how my slippers turned out too. And I still have plenty of buttons to store away if ever do have a little girl.... Well I've found plenty of cute little things (hats, jackets...) to make for my baby boy and I am still working on his Noah's ark blanket. Now that I'm done with these little projects I can get back to that.  Hopefully I finish before my little boy comes! (Don't worry I'm getting close to finishing the blanket)
