Happy Two Week Birthday!

Happy 2-Week Birthday to Julia!

Her pediatrician appointment yesterday showed that she has gained back her birth weight plus two ounces - 5 lbs and 13.5 oz now - which is exactly what she was supposed to do. And she grew an inch and is now 19 inches long! No wonder she's so tired.

Some milestones for Julia:

She took her first golfcart ride and slept through it while pollen coated her poor little face.

She took a few walks around the block this week.

She is participating in breastfeeding boot camp where I am weaning her off of formula.

Her umbilical cord fell off last Thursday...

Which means she was able to get her first bath. Thank goodness for my mom's help. Greg and I sat there like idiots while my mom did all the work!

The bath literally scared the "poop" out of her!
All snuggled up in the towel.

My mom has been an enormous help this week. She's leaving tomorrow on my birthday and I'm already crying about it.

Touchdown!

Julia is apparently not aware that it's basketball season.

I love how her little arm is on Greg's shoulder as if to say, "You're doing a good job, Dad."

Last Wednesday was Greg's birthday, and we are officially in the week of equality. All we've managed to do is watch "Hunger Games" (excellent movie, but the book was better!), and I gave him a few nights off of uninterrupted sleep.

And since I'm known as the worst gifter in the world, I tried extra hard this year to make up for past years and got Greg a projector. It's been his dream since we renovated our backyard this summer to have a projector so we can watch movies in the backyard.

Coming soon - Projector Party at the Dahl House!

Can you believe she was just in my stomach 5 days ago?

There are only 3 outfits that fit her, and all the hairbows were too big as well!

D-Day: 3-12-12

I am getting induced on Monday at 7am, assuming there is room for me at the hospital and my appointment doesn't get canceled. No, I did not want to be induced. No, this was not part of my plan. But yes, it is nice to know when this little girl is going to finally make her appearance.

I expected Dr. Cook to reassure and comfort me and tell me everything is fine at my appointment today, but that did not happen at all. Instead, he sat down with me before the ultrasound and asked me how I was feeling about things. I said, "You mean about the baby being small?" He said, "Let me tell you how I feel." Apparently he really didn't want to know how I felt. :)

He explained that I have been over-monitored recently because of two factors. The first is that this is an IVF pregnancy, and IVF pregnancies have a greater risk of stillborn births. He said because of this I am in a high-risk category. I didn't know any of this and was shocked and horrified since my deepest fear all along has been that I'm going to make it this far and have something happen to the baby. He then told me about how it happened to one of his patients just last week, and I said, "I don't want to hear this story. Why are you telling me this?!"

He said the second reason I'm being over-monitored is because the baby is measuring small gestationally. I asked what his recommendation was and he said, "I would take the baby today. There's no reason not to. Your cervix is ripe and you're ready to go. I'm on call next week Monday, Friday and Saturday and I would be happy to induce at any time." I then went and did the ultrasound Bio-Physical Profile, and she scored an 8/8 and looks perfect! I met with him again afterwards, and he said although the baby is perfectly healthy right now, he agrees with Dr. Carter's opinion that I shouldn't go past my due date. So basically he said I can go home and talk to my husband, but recommended I induce on my due date next Friday the 16th.

I didn't make any progress this week. I'm still dilated to a 2, 60% effaced, but the baby has dropped and is at a Station 2. She is in the right position.

I left the office feeling extremely conflicted and confused. After talking it through with Greg and family, I decided that if all three doctors have concerns, then I should probably listen to what they're saying and go ahead with induction. Then Greg and I decided if I'm going to have to be induced, then why not just go ahead and do it now. I'm officially on maternity leave, so I will just be sitting around the house all next week freaking out about my baby dying before getting to deliver. So I scheduled for Monday at 7am.

Since making that decision, I feel a little more at peace. Now I only have 48 hours to worry rather than a week. Greg says thank goodness nobody told me any of this earlier and that I just found out!

And with that, I'll leave you with the wise words of Dr. Cook when I expressed concern about being induced or having an "intervention." He said, "You have already had intervention after intervention after intervention just to get pregnant. So what is one more intervention that is going to help bring your baby safely here?"

Good point, Dr. Cook. Wish us luck!

Greg preparing for Fatherhood...

All of my blog posts have been about me and the baby. Some of you may be wondering if Greg is even around. Here he is!

He bought this massive umbrella on Sam's Club Auction for a great price. Since the sun hates Greg, this is one of his ways of preparing for fatherhood and any outdoor excursions. He says now he'll go to the beach with me! Let's hope our baby is a darkie and not a whitie like Greg!

Greg's co-worker Rhonda threw Greg a surprise work baby shower on Friday. Waiting for him to walk in...

And all of his co-workers waiting...

SURPRISE!!!!

Because it was his shower, I was adamant that he open all the presents. I found it thoroughly amusing watching Greg open up baby gifts!

It was a diaper shower, and we got tons of diapers which we totally will need!

And along with diapers, some really cute pink girly stuff that Greg looked so cute opening!

I'm pretty convinced now that every shower should be a couple shower!

The pinkest cake in the world: Congratulations Greg and Lara!

Greg making pink cake look super manly.

So happy we are only two weeks away from meeting our little girl!

Greg's amazingly crafty sister Kathy made me a Hospital Survival Kit, just in the nick of time. Okay baby, you can come anytime now!

The nursery is officially finished. Greg put trim around the windows for my Valentine's Day present, and it looks amazing!

From the other side of the room.

Me at 38 weeks in my glider. Man, that glider is a long story involving CraigsList and 3 trips to McDonough to get all the parts necessary to finally assemble it. Good thing I really liked the chair once it was assembled!

Do we look like parents yet?
