Merry Christmas! Despite our travel delays and other various challenges we faced during the trip, we had a wonderful Christmas with Rebecca's family. As always, Griffin was excited to go and excited to come home. More Christmas posts to come...

TRAVEL DISASTER!

After 5 hours at the airport today, our flight got canceled altogether. By the time we got home, we'd been gone over six hours and had gotten nowhere.
The earliest flight we could get to ANYWHERE close is Sunday afternoon, so we're missing our gathering of high school and college friends Sunday as well as a big get-together with my extended family tomorrow. We are feeling pretty Grinchy.
Ah well, at least we'll still get there before Christmas. And Griffin was a very good boy at the airport, having fun watching everyone, running around and playing with the water fountain.

Hope your holiday travels go better than ours...

Sorry for the lack of posts this week, it has been a rough one with Griffin coming down with a cold (fever, congestion, cough, extreme grumpiness and total lack of energy) on Sunday and continuing to be sick all week. He looked like he was getting better Wednesday, but then took another downturn. We are supposed to fly out for the holidays tomorrow evening, so we're keeping our fingers crossed we'll be able to go.

In his better days, some of Griffin's new favorite activities are putting on Mommy & Daddy's shoes to walk around in (Mommy's stay on better) and stacking multiple blocks.

On Sunday we delivered Christmas cookies that we baked to our neighbors. As we said in an earlier post, Griffin played a major part in decorating the sugar cookies. As with Halloween, he wasn't too keen on going up to neighbors' doors and then leaving again right away. After the first few houses he did manage to say "Santa," "Cookie" and his favorite, "Bye Bye."
We also got a chance to pose in front of the giant Santa on our neighbors' lawn. When we were watching a Christmas movie on TV tonight, Griffin would exclaim "Santa" every time Santa came on the screen.

Our other party this weekend was Griffin's day care Christmas event. The kids ate a lot of sugar, sang songs, exchanged presents and received presents from Mimi (the owner/operator) and Maribel (the chief assistant). Griffin loves day care and loves singing songs with Mimi. When we ask him who loves him, he lists "Mimi!" along with the usual family members.

It's party time! This weekend one of our two Christmas parties was brunch at our house. Griffin had so much fun running around and playing with everyone. He had said "Baby Kadyn, Baby Kadyn" all morning and was very happy to see her when she arrived. He gave her some big hugs. Griffin and Jane played with all his toys in the office. Griffin made his rounds with the adults too, although the minute he was up on somebody's lap he would yell "down, down!" to continue his rounds.

Christmas Cookies! Griffin helped make cookies yesterday. We started out with him pouring huge amounts of sugar on the cookies, then moved to having him take the sugar out of bowls (he didn't like the resulting sticky hands), and then had him happily put sugar on the cookies with closed containers. The activity ended with him stacking the sugar containers on top of each other. Stacking is definitely one of his favorite activities, and as usual, he announces what he is doing by saying "stacking" as he stacks things.

Silky, Griffin's blanket, has always been a favorite of his and he's slept with it since almost the beginning. But in the last week or two he has developed a much stronger attachment to Silky, requesting it to carry around in the house and out to the car. He is even asking for it by name now. When he holds Silky up to his face and sucks his thumb, it looks like he's doing a Linus impression. (For a similar Linus image, go to http://www.unitedmedia.com/comics/peanuts/meet_the_gang/meet_linus.html ).

We are happy he finds his blanket and thumb so soothing. He received Silky as a baby shower present (thanks again, Jen, Derek & Delaney!). Luckily when he seemed to first like Silky, we bought two extra ones and now rotate them so they all stay clean and in good shape. When he saw a second Silky by accident the other day, he did a double take at the one in his hands. But after that it didn't seem to bother him. Another little boy in Griffin's music class found out he had a second security blanket and now insists on carrying both around at once, so we're hoping to avoid that to keep the rotation going.

Those of you interested in travel silky's can view them at http://www.cherishandjoy.com/pages/blankets.html , although ordering from them is an adventure.

One of Griffin's new games is "Nite-Nite" where he and Mommy or Daddy pretend to go to sleep and then he pops up and yells "Hi!". Of course, as is the case with most of Griffin's games, you repeat that cycle over again several times.

Choo choo choo choo... Griffin has a terrific time playing at the Thomas the Train table at our local Barnes & Noble. He especially enjoyed our recent trip, since there were no bigger boys there to swipe his trains. It's very handy that all the tracks & other pieces are glued down to survive toddler manhandling. We know what Griffin has on his Christmas list for Santa this year!

Merry Christmas! Griffin is enjoying the holiday season so far, including oohing and aahing over all the lights, showing our neighbor Miss Betty the stars on our own light-up trees outside, touching the inside tree lights and watching Rudolph. Griffin is supposed to only look at the tree, although he often sneaks a quick touch. You can see his expression on getting caught in this picture. Also, it was very unusual when he sat down in his chair to watch Rudolph on TV -- to date, only the Signing Time DVDs have rated a sit-down viewing. It only lasted a few minutes, but you could tell he was very taken with Rudolph.

We got 2-3 inches of snow last Wednesday and Griffin got to go out and play in it. We were really happy to have a very nice snowsuit that used to be Cousin Drew's for Griffin to wear, including some snazzy "snowveralls". Griffin liked it when he and Mommy threw the snow (as long as it didn't hit him), liked walking around, and even paid a little attention to the snowman that Daddy made for him!

I love this series of photos where Griffin is putting the lens cap on the camera. He doesn't normally get to touch the camera, so you can see the mischievous look in his eye upon approach. The camera and remote controls are strictly off limits, which of course makes them irresistable.

Matching daddy-son outfits are my favorite, so Griffin & Daddy humor me. These matching moose PJs are courtesy of Memaw J.

While not quite as enthusiastic as when he began, Griffin still enjoys brushing his teeth before bed time. He much prefers to brush them all by himself.
These snowman PJs last night proved appropriate, since snow started in the middle of the night. It snowed all day with an accumulation of two inches or so.

Brrr! We had a good if very, very cold time at our town's Holiday Stroll Monday night. It was actually supposed to be last week, but got rained out. So it was this week, but was in the 30s with very high winds. Seriously, winds were so high they were warning semi trucks not to drive on bridges! Despite the raw weather, Griffin enjoyed the lights, carol singers, petting zoo, train caboose, horse-drawn carriages (we just looked at the horses) and all the other people and kids.

Griffin found an old keyboard in the basement and was very happy when Mommy set it up on a box for him to pretend type. He likes to yell out "typing, typing" as he does it. Last night he even came over to get Mommy, said "type" and then had her watch him pretend type.

Griffin also enjoyed tromping around the park by our house on Saturday afternoon. He had lots of fun throwing the leaves around and crunching through them. Mommy had to head him off when he started to descend into the creek though.
