Christmas Eve was full of fun activities like baking cookies, organized by Aunt Ginger. The kids all had fun decorating.

Vivian was ready to decorate!

She actually did a much better job than she did at home, putting the sprinkles on the cookies instead of in her mouth (for the most part).

The boys were of the 'more is more' philosophy of cookie decorating.

Good times.

Getting a picture of all 4 kids together and looking at the camera was a challenge.

Another try. They may not be organized, but they're cute!

Then the kids got to open one present from Grandma! They were very excited.

Vivian's Wonder Pets schoolhouse was a big hit with all the kids.

Vivian liked Grandma's Christmas decorations, especially her tree (which had unbreakable ornaments, thank goodness).

Before we went back to Granny's house, the kids left cookies and milk for Santa inside and then went outside to spread the reindeer food that Griffin made at school. (The oatmeal-and-glitter mix is supposed to show the reindeer where to stop.)

We spread some reindeer food at Granny's house too, because Santa left them one little present there to open in the morning.

All aboard! The day after we arrived at Grandma's, it was time for our Polar Express train trip. As you may recall, we first did the Polar Express trip two years ago:

Obviously, things have changed quite a bit since then! Everyone had a fun time last time and we were up for going again.

Due to a perfect storm of delays we nearly missed the train, but thanks to some fairly reckless driving we made it! The train started rolling about 2 minutes after we got on. The kids were very excited to be there.

Griffin, Sophia and Jake showed off their Golden Tickets. They were wearing super-cute matching footie jammies from Grandma. The snowflakes on the jammies glowed in the dark!

We started out with some yummy treats to have with the hot chocolate they served on the train. (In my defense, I did not intend to wear sweatpants on our outing -- in our unexpected rush to get out the door I didn't get a chance to change. Sigh.)

Both kids had a lot of fun!

This picture cracks me up, Grandma looks like she's sneaking up on us.

During the book-reading portion, the kids were mostly too jazzed up to focus. We read the book and watch the movie a lot over the holidays, so everyone was up to speed.

Griffin and Sophia had a great time watching out the window. At the end of our trip to the 'North Pole,' there were a bunch of houses with Christmas lights and a big Santa sleigh with Santa and his reindeer, elves, etc. We opted for the early trip this time (at 5 pm), so it probably wasn't quite dark enough to get the lights' full effect, but still was pretty.

After seeing the North Pole, we sang Christmas carols on the way back. Sophia and Griffin knew most of the words! Vivian loved everybody singing.

Griffin's favorite Christmas carol is Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, which he got a chance to sing.

Then Santa came through our train car! He gave everyone a bell and signed our Polar Express book. And he asked everyone what they wanted for Christmas. The kids were thrilled...

...except for Vivian, of course. She loved watching Santa across the train car, but when he came to our seats she turned her head away and cried. Too many pictures on Santa's lap! As soon as he moved on, she was fine and wanted to watch him some more.

Griffin and Sophia took turns ringing their bells to see if they could hear them because they believed in Santa. Then all the grown-ups took a turn (we all believed too).

After the train ride we went to the train museum, where the kids saw lots of model trains. But their favorite thing was probably playing with the train table.

It was a fun trip, we're so glad we got to go!

The kids had so much fun at Grandma's house over Christmas. They spent a lot of time playing with all the fun toys there, like this turtle tent.

In a rare quiet moment, Vivian enjoyed a spot of tea. She loves climbing in and out of these chairs.

Jake, Sophia, and Griffin enjoyed some Hungry Hungry Hippos.

All the kids had fun at the pond. Throwing rocks, leaves, and sticks off the bridge was very popular.

They were big fans of these fronds.

Sophia and Griffin liked sitting together on one chair for meals.

Vivian is always a mommy's girl, but she was extra clingy over this trip. So most of her time with everyone was shared with Mommy, like this moment with Uncle Bryan.

Jake is a big costume fan, and Griffin enjoyed becoming a knight with him.

Vivian loved going in Grandma's room because that's where the dogs were hiding out most of the time. They ran from her in terror and barked a lot, but that didn't stop her adoration. Here are the four grandkids with Grandma on her bed (Vivian is lurking in the back).

We had a surprise snowfall on Christmas night. The next day we had lots of fun out in the snow, but didn't get any photos. We made snowmen, had snowball fights, and enjoyed ourselves a lot.

Griffin said goodbye to Sophia the day after Christmas. We were supposed to leave that day too, but the snow that was so fun also delayed our departure by a day.

Vivian and Griffin loved the balcony over the living room.

Vivian also enjoyed a lot of Jake's toys, like his trains and trucks. He was nice enough to share.

Griffin and Vivian just love Grandma. Griffin has been telling us how much he misses her!

Griffin and Vivian also had a lot of fun at Granny's house, where we stayed. We didn't get many photos, but they enjoyed playing there before and after sleeping, including using the turtle tent there too.

They love Granny too, with Griffin giving her lots of hugs and kisses and Vivian running around to find her in the house and saying "Hiii!" all the time. Griffin also has been telling us how much he misses Granny.

We had a great time in South Carolina with Daddy's family for Christmas. The kids (L-R, Griffin, Sophia, Vivian & Jake) liked to go over to the pond together. Once we get settled back in from traveling, we'll post more pictures.

Merry Christmas!

This year we waited until the last minute to do the kids' Santa picture. We tried to go this weekend but the line was nuts, so we took some time off school & work this morning to go.

We had to wait about a half hour in line, which wasn't too bad. The kids spent some of the time coloring in their Santa coloring books. When Vivian saw the older kids all coloring, she got right down on the floor to color too.

An elf came by to entertain the kids. Griffin is getting jaded, he didn't give the elf much notice.

On the other hand, Vivian was quite interested, but also kind of scared of the elf. She was happiest watching him from a safe distance with some intervening objects.

When they made it up to the front, Griffin gave Santa his long list of toys he wants. Then Vivian had her usual reaction. ;-) It's funny, because she really likes seeing Santa on TV and from a safe distance, she just does NOT want to be anywhere near him.

We did some Christmas crafts this week.

We decorated some glittery Christmas tree stickers with ornament and candy cane stickers.

It was a good project for both kids.

There were extra ornament stickers, so we put some on construction paper trees as well.

Griffin colored his paper tree and cut out a star to glue on top.

Vivian colored too.

She also likes using colored pencil, but unfortunately she's still in the stage where you have to watch her closely or she eats the lead.

Hard at work! Griffin then made a nice handmade card for his teacher with cut-out snow on it.
