Thirteen Thursday Thoughts...

13 RaNdOm Thoughts! 1. I love days when I come home and get supper in the oven! Tonight it is hashbrown casserole, baked chicken and a salad!

2. Abbey has softball practice tonight and she is LOVING softball this year! Ready to get this season started... First game MONDAY night!

3. So glad the temperature got out of the 60's today. I didnt freeze at recess! :) I have actually worn my "big coat" the last three days at recess. Yes, I freeze easily!

4. Lainey is loving her new art center in her room. She comes home every day and does her homework there. She says she loves the "peace and quiet!"

5. Everyday the girls fight over who is going to get the mail. Some days it bugs the heck out of me. Other days I think to myself... "Man I am going to miss this someday!"

6. Today Abbey blurts out, "Mom, Lainey tooted on my brand new North Face Jacket."
7. Yes, I admit my girls toot and burp like a bunch of BOYS!!!!

8. AT LEAST they do it ONLY at HOME!!!!

9. Miss Em got her new glasses the other day. They are SO.SUPER.CUTE. Her eyes had gotten a bit worse since her last exam and she now has a stigmatism. So I am thinking she and her glasses will be friends for a very long time.

10. School is going good and flying by. It is hard to believe that tomorrow is April!

11. It breaks my heart when I see adorable little kindergarteners and they tell me, "Mrs. Hale, I want to be in your class next year..." So sorry... Not possible :(

12. Keep praying for our Texas schools! Pray for the Texas Teachers they need strength!

13. I am ready for the weekend!

MORE Before and Afters...

This past weekend my crazy, FUN, wonderfully, creative, cousin TONYA came to help me decorate my house a little more! She used the pieces that I had and just "jazzed" them up a little bit. She took pieces like this BEFORE: And turned it into this AFTER! We just added a little BLACK paint and THERE YOU HAVE IT! I love it! She rearranged my STUFF and gave it all a new look! She took my "dated" TV cabinet... BEFORE: And turned it into this AFTER! It now matches all my other pieces in the living room and I am not ready to get rid of it!

I was still loving my bedding in my bedroom but was ready to tone it down a bit... BEFORE! AFTER! She added a blue bedspread and some throw pillows and there you go!

We painted another piece I forgot to get an after picture of so I will have to share later! I LOVED the results of our Saturday afternoon work!

Happy Hump Day!

Here Come the Changes...

I am sure you have been hearing it all over the media {like we all have} that public education in Texas is being forced to change due to the budget cuts. Well, last week our little Texas school began to really FEEL the changes. Here are the TOP NINE ways we are feeling the change.

  1. On Thursday, there were MANY teacher and aides who were told they would NOT have a job next year, that their contract would not be renewed as of April 11. Sad News. LOTS of tears at our school district on Thursday. {Please note that our district as been very open with its employees that this was coming.}

  2. I was one of those employees. I was second to the last person hired at our elementary school so I was expecting to NOT get my contract renewed. CUTS are happening state-wide!

  3. People that cannot afford to be without a job next year are now without a job. All I can say is that they need our prayers and encouragement. Luckily, I can say I get to be a stay at home mom again!

  4. I am so VERY SAD for ALL Texas public education students who will be the real victims in all of this.

  5. The students will be the ones who are now in larger classrooms.

  6. The students will also be the ones who may also not be allowed to participate in certain programs because they may be cut for our public school systems because of budgets.

  7. We must pray for our leadership for our our schools.

  8. I will become the "new copy queen volunteer" at our school or the just a "BEST volunteer with KIDS!!"

  9. I will admit its not all bad to be just a mommy again...I am sure I will find LOTS of things to keep me busy :) My BFF was also released so we have lunch dates planned at least once a week!

EDUCATION is so important! We must continue to push what is best for our kids. Pray for education!

Bullfrogs and Butterflies...

I know many of you may remember the "Bullfrogs and Butterflies" and "Music Machine" RECORDS from the days of old! Yes, I had the good 'ole record that came with a neat little book! Well, a few years ago, my in-laws gave the girls the CDs of my childhood favorites. {Yes, I think my hubby loved them, too!} Over Spring Break the girls pulled out the CDs and played them SO.VERY.LOUD! We would even take them in the car so that we could listen to them. {And yes I remember every song. My favorite was always the one about Herbert and patience! Oh yes and the first one about the Music Machine!}
I also pulled out my books that date back to the 1980's and shared them with the girls. They loved being able to sing along with all the songs and have pictures to look at as they listened.
Yes, I stopped my cleaning, laundry, and dishes for quiet awhile to sing along, too!
It made for a great Spring Break afternoon...Yes, I was thankful we live in the country so our neighbors couldn't hear! What a blessing to share my childhood memories with my girls! I am so glad my parents saved those books for me and that my in-laws gave the girls the CD's. {I still have records but we dont have a record player!}
Sweet Memories to last a lifetime!
Oh by the way, I have hit 100,000 hits on the 'ole blog! Leave me a comment and let me know who is visiting me!

Happy Spring...

Today is the first day of Spring! I love spring and the change of seasons! I have had the windows open in our house LOTS this week. We have also had to turn the air conditioner on a bit in the nights. {That may have a little to do with the girls being sick with the flu and just not feeling good and being hot then cold with fever :( } I decided it was time to plant some flowers in my pots on my porch the end of this week. It just always make the front of our house look better. Abover is the pots BEFORE: Here is me "in the process" of planting! Miss Em was my little helper! She said she LOVES getting dirty! Here is our finished porch! YAY! It looks GREAT! I think Jack Dog LOVES it, too.

I also bought this fern while I was out getting things to put in my pots.

Then today I got really ambitious and cleaned out the front planter. I wish I would have taken a before picture. I was FULL of YUCKY ivy. I have wanted it out of the for a long time. I cant wait to redo this area. It already looks so much better. Any suggestions on what I should put there?

And finally I added a plant and filled up my hummingbird feeders! I cant wait for my kitchen window friends to return.

HAPPY SPRING!

Friday Favorites, Locks Of Love...

Miss Emiley made the big decision to donate her hair to Locks of Love! Emiley had talked about it for awhile but wasnt really sure if she wanted to cut ALL of her hair off... Well, when it was time to go for her haircut, she decided she would go for it!
Her hair is so thick that we did it in two 11" ponytails.
I am so proud of my little girl! My sweet girls have seen their Grammy go through chemo and now all about wigs. Abbey donated her hair a couple of years ago and now Miss Em is proud to mail her hair off to some one who needs a wig. Emiley has beautiful hair so it will be a great donation! I just LOVE her new haircut and Emiley does, too! The back of it is adorable!
Abbey got a little grown-up cut, too. She added a little side bangs and some long layers. WOW, pre-teens are hitting.
Happy Weekend!

Spring Break Spruce Up {Take 2}...

Yep! I "spruced up" other areas of the house this week, too. I tackled the living area of our house, too. I have mentioned before that when we bought our place {a 1960's house on 15 acres} we tore down three walls to make one big room. We have since put one wall back up to make a fourth bedroom but we still just have one large living area! I have had a hard time decorating this area... Let me also so that every piece of furniture we have has been given to us except for our couches that we just recently bought.

BEFORE:
Yes, there is a bike in our living area! Hubs is a rock star :) I asked him to bring it in... I have been on it a few times but its his bike and not mine and his seat hurts my backside!

AFTER: My cousin suggested getting a rug to "anchor the dining area that had the same color tones... So I did!!! I also finally bit the bullet and got a dining room table and chairs! I LOVE IT! At times I know I may wish I had a bigger table but for us and on an everyday basis it is PERFECT and it fits in our space and doesnt make it too crowded. The other side of the table has a bench and the girls LOVE that.
My cousin also suggested adding some of my reds and turquoise from the kitchen and dining area to the living area... So I did. {YES, my cousin is a genious and her house is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G!}
Tonya also suggested combining my desk and another piece in the dining area. I am not sure this is what she had in mind but I am trying it out. It got rid of a piece of furniture in the living/dining area and I kinda like it for a change! (Ignore the backpacks and the cords. Still working on some STUFF!)
Then I moved my Grandmother's red chair back in front of the window. I use to have it there and loved having it there just to sit in! {When I get to sit!} I added one of my zebra pillows to tie in the living room and dining area...

There you have a few more of my "spruce ups!" Its been FUN!

Spring Break Spruce Up...

I've been doing a little "sprucing up" around the 'ole casa while the girls were gone on a camping trip with their EE and Papa Jim the last 5 days! The first thing on my list was to paint Emiley's bedroom!
BEFORE:
AFTER: I painted her walls yellow and bought some new fun things at Hobby Lobby! While the girls were gone I wanted to get rid of some of the CLUTTER! They are collectors and I admit they get it from me and their EE! :) Smile MOM! I LOVE the way her paint turned out. Emiley is like Abbey and doesnt want anything pink so she LOVES her bedding and now I LOVE her room a little more.
Here is Lainey's room BEFORE: AFTER: Her room was the was worse when it came to clutter. OH MY it made me crazy. She had little piles everywhere that needed work. Again, I bought some new fun things for her room and took down things like the posters that I didnt like.

I LOVE Hobby Lobby because their stuff is always 50% off. There was lots of cute stuff to put with Lainey's room! I did leave some things alone like the ribbon on her dresser drawers and the shoes... I picked my battles!
I also made Lainey this cute little art nook in her room. I have been wanting to do it but Lainey does not like change and wont let me move anything so I have waited for her to leave so I could do it all and surprise her! She LOVED it by the way!! Those are a few of Lainey's winning art pieces above her new art "studio!"
BEFORE: Abbey's Room
AFTER: Abbey's room... I rearranged her room and added her name over her bed. I took down her posters in her room. Abbey didnt even care. I also added some baskets on her dresser to keep her "stuff" in! {Ignore the bucket and shelf at the end of her bed...Oops!}
I have had a fun week all to myself. The girls are home now and Lainey has the FLU! Yep, she has 104 temp and is not feeling good!
I will be back tomorrow with more Spring Break Spruce Ups for the living area and sunroom!

Happy Hump Day!
