Caleb's First Christmas!

Christmas was a lot of fun this year. It was a quiet morning where opening presents took all of 5 minutes. Matt and I had very few surprises for each other as we shopped for his presents together (a new suit, tie, white shirts), and I was able to guess most of my presents. I got a new scrapbooking software that I'm really excited about, now that all our pictures are digital. Scrapbooking can get really expensive too with all the cute paper and extras that go into it. I'm excited to do everything on the computer now...when I get to it. Caleb could have cared less...next year will be fun when he actually will be interested in presents rather than just sucking on any and everything within reach.
Christmas Eve is the one event where my mom requests everyone's presence. We usually will have the missionaries over as well as a few of my parents' friends and have a big production with dinner, chimes, and a musical production where all the kids provide some sort of singing or piano performance. This year, one of my siblings (who shall remain nameless) felt it should just be our family. So we just did dinner, chimes, and white elephant presents. It was fun, but I actually missed having the missionaries. I always enjoy participating in the musical program as well and reading the Christmas story together. It was so fun to have Clayton back from his mission to be there with us this year!
One other thing that I really miss about Christmas growing up in my family is caroling. Matt loves to sing, but has an issue with changing keys often throughout a song. Hopefully our kids will get my singing abilities instead of his :) so that we can start this tradition in our family some day.
Here are a few pictures:

Getting ready for our ward Christmas party. Caleb's hat reads 'My 1st Christmas'.

Caleb's cute Santa outfit loaned to us by Jared and Kari (my brother and sister-in-law).

All of Caleb's presents (none of which we got him!) The only present not seen here is the swing that Grandma and Grandpa Shurtliff got him. The fleece blanket is the theme in his room.

He loves the big toy that Grandma and Grandpa Call got for him. It sings all sorts of fun songs and lights up too. He is really working on his hand coordination skills as he tries to press all the buttons to make the music play.

(Just in case you were wondering, Caleb can't sit up by himself yet, although he's close. He's leaning against the toy.)

Favorite Pictures

My winning smile

Bath time is a favorite activity.

Sleeping with Daddy

We go on at least one walk a day, and sometimes Mom rollerblades!

Halloween was not a happy occasion, but even my grumpy faces are still cute.

Welcome Baby Caleb!

Caleb Michael Call was born August 22, 2007 at noon exactly. He is the light of our life. We love watching him learn and grow.

Luckily, I had the easiest pregnancy. I continued to play Ultimate Frisbee once a week until I was 6 months (and Matt banished me from the playing field afraid I would get hurt). My actual due date was August 19, so the whole week prior I took up some light jogging again to encourage Caleb to come early...didn't happen.

We got to the hospital at about 12:30 am because my contractions were coming every 5 minutes. They almost sent me home because the nurse said the contractions should be coming 2-3 minutes apart for the first baby. I would not have been a happy camper had they sent me home as I was in a lot of pain! Luckily I was already dilated to a 5 so they let me stay. The epidural came finally at 2:30, which I consider God's gift to women who have to go through labor! I can't believe women would choose to give birth naturally.

There were a few complications, but at noon Caleb finally arrived. When they placed him on my belly, I was very emotional and would have bawled had Matt not been cracking jokes throughout the final stages of labor. We couldn't believe what a perfect little boy he was. 7 lbs. 11 oz. 20 1/2 inches long.

Our First Home

I'm excited to start a blog for our family finally. I love checking the blogs of my friends to see where their lives are taking them now.
Backing up to July of 2007, Matt and I bought our first home together.  It is a 2000 square foot, 2 story house that is just perfect for our small growing family. The best part about the location is that we are within 20 minutes of both of our families. We love having family so close. We definitely have our space, but it's so fun to get together with family whenever we want! The worst part about the location is the hour drive Matt has to and from work (due to traffic).
Matt is very much a handyman and would go check out our house as it was being built every week to take pictures of the progress and make sure they were doing everything right! Here are a few of them...
