Dresser Redo

I keep a folder on my pc FULL of home makeover ideas. Anytime I'm browsing a blog or online home decor magazine and see something I love, I just copy it in my folder. I love going back and looking at all the things I've "collected" in the file. As of now, I'm up to about 146 ideas......maybe I'll eventually get around to doing them all! LOL

I fell in love with this black dresser here......

and found a similar one on a blog.......
I've been keeping my eyes open at yard sales for a dresser to use and then remembered I had one in the storage bldg. It was bought 8 years ago when I was pregnant with Kendall from a over-stock furniture store in Arkadelphia. It was white and when Jed came along I painted it blue. It used to look like this a couple years ago.

When we hauled it out of the storage bldg it looked a bit different. It was horrible but perfect for my project. I had painted it black and used it in Kendall's room for a little while before the drawers fell out and would NOT go back in no matter how many times we tried. Reagon helped me set the dresser up in the living room and it stayed here for the past couple of months. I'm sure every visitor we had thought we were nuts with this broken down dresser in our living room! LOL Josh was leaving for band practice a few weeks ago and I asked him to take this dresser with him to Ernie's house and have him put a couple shelves in place of the drawers. He did a fantastic job on the shelves (he used leftover laminate flooring for the shelves and they turned out great).

The weather was so nice this week so the girls helped me haul this out to the carport and while Jed and Kendall played in the water sprinkler, I finished the dresser. Finally.
I use the top drawer to hold dvds..
And the shelves hold more dvds and some baskets with diapers and toys.
I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out and it's nice to have the extra storage space in our small living room. Next time I'm in Lowes, I'm digging through the cabinet knob clearance bin in search of some over sized wood stained knobs. I think they will look great on this dresser.
Total cost of project $0...zippo. Used my leftover black paint from my last project and thankfully Ernie is my free carpenter.
The black paint is now gone. Next up is a gallon of buttercup that I can't wait to use. I have my eye on a dresser in Glenwood for $40. If it is still there this weekend when I go to Newhope, I'm going to start my next project for Kendall's room.

Cookout with friends

A couple weekends ago we got together at Matt and Carrie Jo's house in Kirby for a cookout. We had such a great time. I miss them so much since we moved to Mt Ida. Before we moved, we were together every Monday night for almost two years. It's hard to suddenly stop being together so much. We had a great time at the cookout. We grilled burgers, played horseshoes, and split into two groups for bible trivia.

We gave Jed and Montana some cards to play with to distract them from our game! LOL

Playing Bible Trivia
McKayla sneaking a snack...
Jed and his buddy Montana...they are only 4 weeks apart in age.

I'm already missing them again and looking forward to the next cookout!

Kendall's third donation to Locks-of-Love beating her old record of 13 inches. This time she gave 15 inches and got a cute haircut in return.

More junk finds! =)

On my lunch hour last Friday, I had to make a quick trip to the bank to deposit my check and hit a couple good yard sales. I love other peoples junk! LOL

3 cute pair of shoes for Kendall, two clear glass containers, a wicker trash basket, Tommy H tie, and some rusted candle holders for a grand total of $3.25...not too shabby!
I have a lifetime supply of black spray paint!
The clear containers were perfect for my bathroom....
Forgot to mention I dropped off another two bags of things to the Salvation army store and picked up this metal bird feeder for $3.
I like the way these candle holders turned out...
Yesterday's yard sale finds...another clear cookie jar minus the lid (I can't seem to pass them up) and some cute little tin molds. I have been wanting some of these but wouldn't pay full price for them. Got this set of 6 for 50cents plus the 25cent bowl. (((Still on the lookout for a cupcake stand and apothecary jars))))
I like this one too. I'll change the colors out with the seasons. I think the burnt orange candles will look great on this in the fall.
It's crazy how spending just $6.75 can make me super happy. My mom laughed when I told her about my finds. She said people are going to start thinking I'm homeless for all the trips I make to the Salvation Army store!!! LOL

Mt Ida Graduation..Megan and Sarah

Friday night we attended Mt Ida's high school graduation. Sarah and Megan both attend our church and Sarah is the daughter of Josh's best friend, Ernie. The graduation was long and super hot in the gym so I spent most of my time outside with Jed. There were several other mothers outside with their toddlers and Jed had a blast running and playing on the grass. Every now and then he would run up to me and say "wook Mom..kids...I pay with kids". It was so cute.

After graduation, we went to Ernie and Lisa's house for an after-graduation party for Sarah.

Lisa with Jed while Sarah opens her gifts
If you can't tell from the pictures, Jed is totally spoiled when he goes to Ernie and Lisa's house. When we pull out of our driveway, Jed will say "go to my Ernie and my Wisa's house"
We made it home around midnight on Friday night. I was exhausted but we all had a good time. I teared up a couple times during the start of graduation. Not sure if it was because I know Reagon will too soon be walking the graduation road or if it was because her maroon and white cap and gown will be Mt Ida maroon and white. Probably the latter.

What must I do to get a Mothers Day picture!!!!!

I remember it all too well last year. We were RUNNING out the door to get to church on Mothers Day. I was the last one to leave the house...I am compulsive about going back and checking each room over and over again for irons on and straighteners left plugged in...blame it on my house burning to the ground when I was a teenager. Anyway, I made it out of the house with a few minutes to spare before church with camera in hand. BEGGING my family to get unbuckled and out of the car for a mothers day picture with me. Didn't happen and I have NOT let them forget about it all year. So you would think that this year they would be up and ready and standing at the door with big smiles ready to redeem themselves. Didn't happen...AGAIN!! It really was an honest mistake. Josh left for church early and being the good husband that he is, he dressed Jed and took him to church early so the girls and I could have extra time to get ready. Reagon didn't want her picture made because her face was red from feeling bad so couldn't blame her either. So, here is my Mothers Day 2009 picture. Just me and a cute little red head.

As soon as I get over this sinus infection, I'll be posting some of my current projects.
PS: I'm not posting another picture of me until I get my roots done. Man, why didn't someone tell me! =)

CT scan

A quick update today.....I would love to do a long post but I'm dying from a sinus infection. Can you cause serious brain damage from sitting with a heating pad on top of you head most of the day?

Just talked to Reagon's doctor at Childrens. The CT scan will be in the morning at 10am.

Also, talked to my good friend Charissa today. She is home and doing much better.

Thanks for your prayers!

Second verse, same as the first

Poor Jedidiah..he feels awful again. High fever. Stinkin pollen. Please say a prayer for our sweet little boy.
Also, please say a prayer for my dear friend, Charissa. She had a mini-stroke this week. She is my age with two little boys at home.

Jed's new favorite toy

Several times during the day I would find Jed in Kendall's room playing with her Little People house. I decided to let him play with it in the living room with all of his dinosaurs/dozers/handy manny dolls. No way did I let him play with all of her barbie dolls. You do remember the doll-without-an-eye...right? He just loves this playhouse.

We have overheard him say some of the cutest things while playing:

"honey..you need to peepee?"

"honey...want to ride in Nana's new car?"

"wake up honey" (yes, I call him honey all the time)

and the best one "I will bus your tail"! LOL

Mission Trip Fundraiser

Our church hosted a mission trip fundraiser this past Saturday. The weather was horrible! Thankfully, we were able to move to the local gym to complete our 3-on-3 tournament. As of now, the mission trip has been put on hold due to the swine flu concern. Hopefully, all will clear and we can continue with our summer plans to New Mexico's Juanashoni Indian reservation.

Here are some pics from Saturday....

What a cutie!

See the pattern. You know the term "it takes a village". It should be "it takes a church" to keep up with Jed! LOL

Our next fundraiser will be May 22-23rd....we are praying for good weather and a good turn-out.
