Let the projects begin!!!

The weather has been perfect the last couple of weekends. Perfect for all day yardsaling. Unfortunately, I am running out of room in our carport and decided that instead of going to yard sales for more junk bargains, I REALLY needed to stay home and work on dwindling down my stash.

I woke up around 8am on Saturday morning, did a quick run through the house to make sure we had clean underwear and a hot dog for lunch, and made my way outside to enjoy the beautiful sunshine. 8 hours later, covered in paint, I made my way back inside to soak for an hour in a steamy hot bath! Yard sale makeovers are hard work! LOL

First I drug several projects out into the yard. I told the kids to run inside if someone drove up thinking I was having a yard sale. Yea, it was THAT bad.

While I worked on my bigger projects (Kendall's bed and a new "pottery barn style" coffee table), I pulled out my tote of smaller projects. I have a hard time waiting between projects (OCD) so I like to work on smaller ones while my kiltz or paint dries between coats.............and because if I came home with ONE MORE thing to add to this box Josh would scream bloody murder and haul it off to the dump.

My hot, soapy water. I always clean my projects really good before I sand or kiltz. Nothing like spraypainting a bug on a nice white shelf.

Gathering up my supplies (ONE of my baskets of spraypaint and a "few" $3.00 mistints from Lowes.) I NEVER go to Lowes without checking the mistint rack.

It's always nice to have a painting helper.....

and a lead-paint sniffing dog, just to be on the safe side.

Several projects are now done and the two big projects are close...should finish them tonight before church. Just wait till we get in our 1970s house next week! I will be driving everyone crazy with my remodel pictures over the next few months!

Hope you enjoy the project redos as much as I enjoyed doing them....

Lamp redo

Found this lamp at the local goodwill store for one dollar. Didn't buy it, went home and thought about the lamp a hundred times. Couldn't believe I didn't just buy the stinkin' thing! Decided that as soon as I dropped the girls off at school the next day, I was going back! LOL

I loved the base of this lamp and the lampshade was in great condition.

Scrubbed with soap and water and then put on the first coat of kiltz.......

Listen, if you are going to do makeovers, you need to be professional. This lamp has a curved bottom which means all of it needed to be painted, not just the top. This is the way "we professionals" dry our lamps! LOL

We also use old pizza boxes instead of drop cloths and cover the cords with ratty towels.

I really like the way this turned out. I can just see little acorns in the base during the fall months.

You can see four more of my finds here. (Besides many other things, I'm developing a love for lamps). I have several more (too ashamed to tell you just how many! LOL) and can't wait to get them finished. I have learned (thanks to Google instructions and the ladies at the axillary shop) how to rewire lamps! Josh told me that he is getting me a toolbelt for Christmas. I don't need a toolbelt but I would love a new heavy duty staple gun. Simple fabric/upholstery projects are up next on my list of todo's. I've also just now started digging through the fabric bins. Old lampshades + pretty fabric + my glue gun!!! Can't wait to try that one. I am on the lookout for some old toile fabric for the black lamps above. Won't that look good!

Scored a great frame!

A few weeks ago, I went yard saling with my parents. Bless their hearts, they may never take me again! We ended up going to the Family Dollar store to buy straps so my dad could haul home a huge shelf for me on top of his SUV...plus a mini kitchen island and a ton of other great buys...all shoved in the car with the three of us and a 2 year old in his car seat!!! =)

At one sale, I picked up this picture and let me tell you...it is SUPER heavy!!! I loved the detailing on the frame. It was a set, two pics (one of a duck, one with deer) and both marked $5 each. Before I could give the lady the money, she said "I'll sell both of them to you for $5 total". Poor sweet lady...she lost herself $5 because I was more than willing to pay her asking price. She may have felt sorry for us since she could probably barely see my dad and son in the car amongst my other deals.

Isn't this frame beautiful? Not a cheapo plastic one either.

Out comes Mr Duck...

In goes one of my favorite family pics
Love the way this one turned out...I think this picture goes great with the frame color. Really brings out the fall leaves.

Still working on the deer picture......will have it ready soon.

Quick easy Mudshelf

There is a little space in our carport next to the side door (at our "new" house) that will be perfect to use as a catch-all for our shoes and backpacks. I have been on the lookout for a little shelf to use for our muddy shoes and found this one for ONE DOLLAR!!!

Looked through my stash of mistint paints and found a color that complimented the brick on our house. My little painting helper tackled this project and did a really good job!

It's not quite finished...just needs some touchups and the legs painted and it will be done! Still can't believe I got this one for a dollar!

Reagon's room magnetic board

My junk tote is slowly emptying......almost time to fill it up again at some more yard sales!

See the sunflower mirrors?

Picked these up for 50 cents each at Goodwill.

A couple coats of purple to match Reagon's bedding, some old scrapbook paper and pic, chalkboard paint (again, love this stuff) and magnetic spraypaint...

after..

.....working on some cute magnets to go with the magnetic board on the right. Will post them as soon as I finish.

Chalkboard tray

I didn't take a real before picture of this one...just look close in my junk tote. See the ugly green 25 cent picture glued to a brown tray behind the beautifulsoontoberedone frame? Yep, that one.

Black spray paint and some chalkboard spray and 10 minutes later....

I like this one because the tray is wide enough to hold the chalk.

Chalkboard redo

I follow about 30 "trash to treasure" blogs and almost every one of them has done a chalkboard redo. I decided to keep my eye out for the perfect ugly picture to use as my chalkboard. I scored a few weeks ago when I found this huge pic at a local yard sale for $2. I LOVED the distressed frame! This was such a simple project. I've finished 5 more since this one. Sooo easy and so fun.

My ugly pic with a great frame

$2.00!!! and look how great the frame is. I love this distressed look. Didn't have to prime, paint black, paint white, then sand....it was already done!

Taped off the frame

Spray kiltz (I have a love/hate relationship with this stuff)

Chalkboard spray painted one coat, let dry overnight, second coat, let dry overnight again, then done!

One more shot of the frame...love it!

Soooo easy! You have to try it!

TV Tray Makeover

Picked up this set of tv trays at a yard sale a couple months ago. Paid $2 for the set of four plus the holder. They stayed in the carport forever while I tried to figure out what to do with them. While waiting on some other projects to dry (OCD, remember) I pulled them out and used some leftover red and black spray paint. They will work great this fall for the kids to eat on during football games!

Kendall is the best little helper! She is always wanting to help me when I paint. Here she is in charge of scrubbing the trays down with hot, soapy water.

Lightly sanded and then sprayed the trays red. Ran out of paint so used black on the holder. You know, I never run out of black spray paint..I buy it by the case!

I like the way they turned out. Not bad for $7. Spent $2 on the trays, $5 on the decals and used spray paint from my yearlong supply.

I realize now after putting them in the holder, that I should have sprayed the back side as well. Looks like I'll need to drag them back outside for one more coat.

My Birthday Party

Last Sunday we met my family after church at the Glenwood city park for lunch and birthday cake. Here are some of the pics....

Taylor and Kendall
Sweet TayTay
Sophie Lauryn
Jedidiah
They played for a long time in the sun and finally decided to get a drink of water.

They were amazed that this!
It all started out sooooo innocent. Just a little splash of water here. Then dumping it over their backs....
Then just a little bit on each other...
Then a whole lot on each other....
Love this! So glad I caught it with my camera!

Kendall's Gymnastics Performance

Last weekend, Kendall's gymnastics class showed off their newly learned skills at the Hot Springs mall. She has had a great time with summer gymnastics. Tomorrow is her last class until next summer. She starts barrel racing training on Friday afternoons after school.

Getting ready to perform....

Some of her fans........took this one before more of her family showed up to watch. She was excited (and a little embarrassed) to have so many people watching her.
Of course, anytime we go to the mall, Jed HAS to ride the motorcycles! lol
