New meaning to Mom and Pop stores

For quite sometime now, I have been on the look-out for a couple of bedside tables to go in our master bedroom. I never could quite find just what I wanted until this past weekend. I found the perfect little table on my Mom and Dad's front porch! LOL Mom just happened to have the matching table in her living room so she gave them both to me. I couldn't wait to get them home and try them out! They are perfect!

Thanks Mom!! I'll be back to shop a little more next weekend!

Enjoying the beautiful fall weather

Fall is my absolute favorite season! The weather has been perfect the last couple of evenings and the kids have sure enjoyed every second of it. We have been staying outside until it gets so dark we just have to go inside. I've been working on more painting projects while Josh mows and the kids play tackle football.

Yesterday while waiting for my paint to dry, I grabbed my camera for some pictures of the kids playing. (Reagon was talking to the neighborhood kids (two cute boys) who so kindly walked over to hand deliver her jacket she "accidentally" left on the bus.)

Kendall doing one of her million flips and cartwheels each day....She now has a lot of room to run and play outside.
This child loves football which makes his daddy so happy! Jedidiah Harper...doesn't that just sound like an Arkansas Razorback?

Sissy checking out his booboo after a rough football tackle.

I'm sure not looking forward to the time changing. Spending time outside with the kids and Josh each evening is now my favorite part of the day!

Pike County Fair 2009

It's fair time again!

We took the kids last week to watch the Pike County parade in Glenwood. This year my niece Kamry was in the parade and pageant and she looked beautiful!!! Will have to get some of her pageant pictures from Alissa to post.

Nanny, Poppi and Sophie watching the parade

Aunt Mimoke made a good chair for the parade. Sophie and Jed were a little scared of some of the firetrucks and sirens so they stayed in Misti's lap most of the time.
Beautiful little Kamry (with Landon waving out the window) =)
Sophie and Taylor Ann
Jed's favorite part of the fair....
I got a kick out of this Farm Bureau milk cow. He looked like little Albert Ingals doing his chores

Jed had so much fun at the fair. Now, everytime we go through Glenwood he will yell "go see cows and goats and rides...please!!".

Where's the clean laundry????

Something I hear quite often..especially in the last couple of weeks.

Where's the sock basket? Where's my gym shorts? Where's my clean underwear! =)

My standard answer.......I have no idea.

Why? Because I get started on laundry and then quickly decide that projects are so much more fun!

Last night, Josh was looking for work shorts while Reagon was looking for gym clothes and I was outside doing important stuff.

I've had this cute little metal milk-jug-thingy for a while now. Picked it up at goodwill for 25cents during their half price sale. I love the distressed look and I keep it on top of the fridge to hold my cookie cutters.
Taped it off with some of my painters tape and used the last little bit of my chalkboard paint.

5 minutes later....

Much better!!
Fall is my favorite favorite season!!!! I finished my wreath this morning for the front door. Love it. Would love it even more if my door was painted black with shiny white address decals and a beautiful oil rubbed bronzed door knob. Santa...are you listening?
No reason for this picture other than I just LOVE to see this in my house!!! I could cry thinking about walking into the girls rooms someday and not seeing dolls everywhere. Can you tell I love cabbage patch dolls? We have every.single.one named and Reagon thinks it is rather odd that I can recall every one. Can't tell you what I wore yesterday but I can tell you about Tena Belinda, Jana Bionca, Angelica Constance and Sampson Kendrick...my first four cabbage patch dolls!
If you will remember in an earlier post I commented on my parents taking me yard saling with them and how my Dad had to strap a shelf to the top of his suv. Well, here it is.

Kendall's "little pet shops" will soon have a house to play in....between the next load of laundry.
And if any of you are wondering why I can't seem to lose these last 10 pounds.......I blame it on my new neighbors!!!!
This is the third neighbor that has so kindly dropped off a "welcome to the neighborhood" gift. One sweet lady brought some homemade biscuits and sausages one morning while we were moving in. Then we received a huge pot of homemade veg soup and cornbread one afternoon.
I was in the middle of heating up my healthy choice meal for lunch when my other neighbor lady, Janie White, delivered this wonderful goody basket!! Needless to say, the HC meal went to the cat and I ate way too many homemade yeast rolls and chocolate chip cookies.
She thought of everything!!!! Dish towels, homemade jelly/yeast rolls and 3 different cookies, books for the girls and Jed, 5 different cokes for each of us, notecards, candles, a cheese log and crackers, chocolate gravy mix in a jar, towels, pens, a community church calendar, and some sugar! I made a comment to her last week that I almost had to send the girls over for sugar on our first night here. Love how she remembered that!
And in case you are wondering, I did manage to finish ALL the laundry and even made a delicious roast to go with the yummy rolls.
Now, where is my dropcloths? I have important work to do.

Slowly but surely....

Things are starting to come together here at our new place..a little slower than I would like. I told myself that I wouldn't get stressed out and would take my time making this house a home but sometimes I get a little impatient! I still haven't nailed one single nail into the wall. I know that once I do, it is going to have to stay that way. My "to-do list" seems to be growing daily as well as the laundry pile! Right now, you can barely open my office door for all the boxes of files and paperwork. Lots to do to keep us busy! Josh has us on a deadline....he wants everything done before deer season! LOL I hate to tell him that it may take until deer season 2010!

Here are some pics of our progress so far

Hall bathroom before....
Hall bathroom now. Still looking for a light fixture for this room. I know what I want....a bronzed-look tiffany style light in shades of brown, orange and turquoise. Will hopefully find just the right one soon. (the window isn't finished, I just haven't had time to install the tie back hook or the roman shade)
This is the main entrance to the home. When we bought this house, as soon as you opened this front door you were in the living room with a big picture window (on the left in the pic) and a fireplace. We decided that we didn't really need a living room and a den so after several days of brainstorming, we had a wall put up to give me a much wanted foyer/mud area and a new office space.
I told them I wanted an extra wide foyer and that is just what I got! I love the way it turned out. This is the perfect place for me to decorate for the seasons. My mother-n-law said she could already see me putting up an extra Christmas tree in this space! We had an electrician come and wire us an entrance light and now it looks like it has always been this way. (don't look too close, you can tell I haven't finished the white paint on the office door jam)

Remember the gold (hanging upside down to dry) goodwill lamp? Goes perfect in this space.
This is what you see when you open our front door (yes, baskets of clothes to ebay and all...just keeping it real). You can't tell by this pic but the Sherwin Williams colors go from light in the foyer to medium in the dining room to darker in the den, all on the same color strip. I love the paint colors which is a huge relief since I almost gave myself an ulcer when choosing them. Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore and Behr have WAY TOO MANY colors to choose from and how in the world can you tell from a two inch sample on a strip what it will really look like? I seriously did hours of research and sample painting to decide on the final colors.
Den before
Den now...
I still have boxes and boxes of books in the garage to fill the bookshelves and a can of glaze to finish off my coffee table makeover but this room is close to being complete. Next year, when things settle down, I am going to tackle the bookshelves. I want to put thick molding up around them and possible paint them....black, of course!
The rug is still lumpy and is supposed to be under the coffee table...had just rolled it out about 2 hours before taking this pic yesterday. I ran to the post office on my lunch hour to pick up my office mail and the lady told me I had two rugs in the back. Later that afternoon, one of our church ladies called to ask how my new rugs looked. LOL....small towns!

I went back and forth with the painters on whether or not to paint the back door and mantle. We finally decided to keep the wood look. I love the look of different textures and colors so I thought painting it would make it a little too matchy for me. I'm glad we decided on keeping it this way.
The previous owners had cornice boards over the windows. You can see I still have them in the floor. I saw a great 'redo' on another blog so I'm keeping them for now. Add that to my growing list of projects.
Love the brick wall, just don't care for the pink tints that show up in it. I've done some research on tinting brick so maybe before Jed goes to kindergarten I will tackle that.
This brick wall was the exterior of the house for several years before the owners added on. Josh loves how they left this little porch light. I have no idea what to do with this light. For now, looks like we will be leaving it. At night, we turn off the ceiling fan lights in the den and leave this little light on.
Kitchen bar area before. (bar as in island, not neon lights bar) =)
Bar area now
My black outlets have not been changed to beige yet. My dad keeps reminding me to pick them up at Lowes so he can change them out for me. It's on the list.
The next big project is the cabinets. I keep a folder of "home ideas" and when I find something in a catalog that I like, I rip it out and add to my folder. When we bought the house, I dumped my folder and went through every single page for ideas. I love this cabinet picture and never really
thought I would get the chance to do this type of coloring on cabinets but I may just take the plunge this time. My cabinets are arranged just perfectly for this type of color. They make a large U shape all around the kitchen and then a separate set next to the fridge (you can see them in the top pic). With my sisters' help, we are going to tackle this project. Antique white with brown distressing on the U shaped area and Valspar Cherry on the opposite accent cabinets. I may hate it, but it's just paint and it can be changed but I have a feeling I will LOVE it. After the cabinets are done (hopefully this year, lol), then we will install new countertops. Still on the fence on that one. Too many choices!

I really should get off this blog and start working. Remember I said my office was filled with a big mess of papers? I wasn't kidding.
...and this door jam is really starting to bother me now. Off to find my white paint.
and hopefully cross another thing off the list!

We are still alive

Moving with all this rain is a little stressful! I have tons of boxes to unpack and several more projects to wrap up but for now, I'm just trying to keep the laundry done, cook something halfway healthy for my family for supper each evening and work 40+ hours a week. Thankfully, I have lots of help! Saturday is closet day....we have so many boxes full of clothes that it may take us two weeks to get it all organized and put away.

I'll leave you with some pics I found last week. I guess, my middle child got a hold of my camera.
I got a good laugh when they loaded on my screen. =)

Stay tuned....if I survive, I'll post some "after" pics of the house.

Painting Party

We closed on our house just in time for a long three day weekend. My parents and sisters spent both days, ALL DAY, working and painting. We couldn't have done it without them. Josh's dad helped move EVERY piece of furniture out of our rent house. This was definitely a family affair!

Friday night Josh and I started on the primer in our master bedroom. It didn't take us long to break for supper at Subway and start questioning our painting skills.
After a long 10 hr day of caulking and priming on Friday, the paint was ready to go on in the dining room. I was anxious to see the color. It took me WEEKS to decide on the color pallet. I had paint swatches and samples spread all over the house. I am very pleased with the final choice. Sherwin Williams Softer Tan, Macadamia and Whole Wheat are the three colors we used. I used Behr Grasscloth in the laundry room. All the trimwork is Sherwin Williams Alabaster.

My Dad working in the laundry room....he NEVER took a break! He ran circles around the rest of us!
We had a system going...One person would roll the wall, one would do the top trim and one would do the baseboards.
I LOVE this picture because Dad was telling me to put down the camera and pick up a paintbrush!!! LOL
Misti covering his bald spot!!! LOL
The Movers!! Roger and Josh moved every single piece of furniture out of our rent house. They worked so hard. Caleb and Mary Grace stopped by so we put them to work. Caleb helped move a load of furniture while Mary Grace helped paint trim in the laundry room.

After everyone left on Saturday night to watch the Razorback game, my mother-n-law stopped by to help. She and I finished the trim in the laundry room. Good thing we aren't huge razorback fans. We didn't even have the game on the radio. We just talked and painted.
You would think by looking at this picture that my Mom had the best job of the whole crew....
Actually just the opposite...she was in charge of these four!!! LOL
My brother-n-law Jerry and my sister Alissa working on the office walls. This room WAS the living room when we bought the house. We added a wall to make it an office...more to come on that in a later post.
Even little Jedidiah helped with the primer!
A BIG thanks to everyone who helped this weekend!!! We had a lot of fun and crossed off several items on our BIG to-do list!
