Attending Bubba 101

Yesterday, Marc, Claudia and I participated in Bubba 101 - an introduction to Tennis. The event took place at the Pelham Raquet Club and followed a women's doubles tournament championship game. Claudia was able to see some really good ladies play some serious tennis. She was cheering like you knew just what was going on. After the championship game, Bubba, from the Rick and Bubba Show, came out and welcomed everyone to the clinic. He gave a quick talk about how he has become so involved in tennis and how it has helped him lose weight, lower his cholesterol, and just have fun and meet new people. We then broke up into groups with different tennis pros from around town. Claudia went off on her own with all the other kids who were of course older than her. She was the only 4 year old. I was worried she would be nervous by herself, but she just took off running with her tennis pro, Rusty Wilkes. He happens to be the pro that gave Bubba his first lesson. Marc and I stayed together in a group with our tennis pro, Greg Howe. We were in a group of 9 people and learned the basic forehand and backhand and went through drills of hitting back and forth with our other group members. Marc was the power hitter and kept being told to hit a little softer. But before you knew it, he had a really good even stroke going. I didn't get to watch Claudia. I could see her from a distance. She said she got to hit the ball once, and that they played a game called keep the ball out of jail. I'm not sure how that worked. But she had a great time and is ready to take real lessons. My favorite line was "can I have my birthday party here?" So, I would say she liked it. We are signing up for private family lessons. Our main goal is for all of us to just get some good exercise. But, with our competitive personalities, Marc and I may be playing in a league before you know it. I'm sure it will be entertaining to say the least. We are heading back to the courts today to hit around a little. Come join us sometime.

Spring Day

Only a week after our snow experience, we were able to have a beautiful spring experience with 77 degree weather. It was just beautiful outside, so we decided to head to Homewood Park and have a picnic. We took Claudia's bike and she had a great time. She kept getting more and more brave and going around the track almost by herself. Of course, her daddy was following her just in case, but he was having to work to keep up with her. Claudia also enjoyed some time on the playground and insisted on having her photo taken on top of the worm. When we got to the park we didn't realize the Exceptional Foundation Chili Cookoff was going on at the time. It was packed. Great day for people watching. Wow - what some people are thinking I will never understand.

We ran into some of our friends, Keith and Amy Kester and their daughter Caroline. Caroline was fascinated with Claudia's bike and wanted to ride so badly. She is just a beautiful little girl. She also took a turn at holding Kayleigh.

After enjoying the warm sun we packed up and headed home. We made a quick run by Publix (Claudia says "where shopping is a pleasure" - she is our logo and tag line queen.) We got home and started working on dinner. I made an attempt at Paula Deen country fried steak, mashed potatoes and homemade biscuits. It was good. I put too much salt on the steak - but of course Marc didn't mind that. Claudia was my big helper with making thebiscuits. She loves watching Food Network - we all enjoy the challenges with the disney cakes.

It was a great day all around. Sunshine, good friends and good food. Just enough to get us ready to lose an hour of sleep with the time change. ugh!

Amazing Snow in March

Today we have enjoyed a beautiful snow in Pelham, AL. When I woke up at 4 AM to feed Kayleigh, I saw that the snow had begun to fall. I promised Claudia I would wake her up in the middle of the night if it started snowing. So after feeding Kayleigh, I woke Claudia up at 4:30 and we watched the snow falling out on the deck. Then we turned on ABC3340 who had already started their lengthy coverage. We took a quick picture of the snow accumulating on the table on the deck and sent it to them and 5 minutes later we saw it on the TV. Claudia was pretty excited.

Later this morning we finally got everyone bundled up and ventured out to play in the snow. Marc and Claudia played with the neighbors, building a snowman and sledding down the hill across the street. Then Marc and Claudia made snow angels and threw snowballs at the window while I watched. I did take Kayleigh out for a quick photo of her first snow. The wind was blowing a good bit and even though we had her covered - she did not like it. So we went in pretty quickly.

We also collected snow in a bowl and made snow ice cream. My dad always made the best snow ice cream when we were little. Claudia loved it! The snow has almost completely melted now and Claudia is asleep on the floor in front of the fire. She is so precious when she sleeps. What a wonderful morning it was - just hate it had to end so quickly.

Jordin's Signing Day

Today my niece, Jordin Mauk, had her big signing day to play basketball for Belhaven College in Jackson, MS. We are all very excited for her and so proud. She has been playing basketball since she was 10 and worked really hard to get where she is today. It is going to be fun to follow her college basketball adventures. Jordin - I'm so very proud of you. I can't believe my sweet little niece is all grown up. Best of luck!

Visit from Co-Workers

Yesterday Kayleigh and I were visited by some of my dear friends from work, Gloria, Melissa, Stacie and Wendy. It was a great visit and became somewhat of a photoshoot as they were all taking pictures of Kayleigh. Here is a precious one that Stacie took. She is so talented. Thanks girls for coming to see us. You are such great friends!

The First Post

This is my first attempt at blogging. I can't promise to be very good at this - but thought I'd give it a shot. Everyone is always asking what's going on and wants to see pictures - so I figured this would be a good place to start.

There is a lot going on in our lives right now. We have just welcomed daughter #2, Kayleigh Hope Heard, into our lives. She was born February 9 at 7:40 am. She is an amazing little miracle and we are so blessed. It was a long road to get to this place. After almost a year of fertility treatments, and then 9 months of a less than fun pregnancy, we finally have our little one. Big sister, Claudia, is doing great and is such a big helper. They are so sweet together. We look forward to watching them grow up together and hopefully be the best of friends.

Emma (our Shih Tzu) is still trying to figure out what this little thing is that has invaded her home. But she is behaving. She just wants to get up in Kayleigh's little bouncy seat and sniff her all the time.

Right now the days are filled with feedings, diaper changes and trying to find time to sneak in a little nap. Nights are a little more challenging. We are still trying to explain to Kayleigh that when it is dark outside, we are supposed to sleep. Marc is handling taking and picking up Claudia, taking her to ballet, and many more things. He is an awesome husband and father!

Well..that's it for now. I'll start trying to add some photos and more fun stories. Hope you enjoy the site.
