How to Cover a Wicker Basket with Tissue Paper

Step 1
Lay out sheets of newspaper as a base to work on and catch the glue drips. Choose tissue paper for its design and color, tear into small pieces of varying sizes, about 2” x 3” or smaller or larger depending on the size of your basket.
Step 2
Pour approximately 1/2 cup white glue into lidded container and 1/2 cup water, stirring to make the consistency of slightly thickened milk.
Step 3
Starting from the inside of the basket, dip a piece of tissue into the glue, shake off excess and paste onto on the basket, right side up. Wet the next piece and slightly overlap it to the first piece.
Tips & Warnings:
- If you wish to stop before finishing the project, cover glue container and wash brush, or place sticky brush in a sealed plastic bag.
- Use fingers to paste the tissue onto the basket and the brush to push the pieces against the grooves.
- If there is a basket handle, use it to prop the basket on its side for easier work space while covering.
- Torn tissue rather than cut tissue makes pasted edges less visible.
- You may need to refresh the newspaper from time to time as it gets wet and sticky from the glue drips.
- Your hands can get quite sticky so wash occasionally to prevent pulling glue pieces off the basket as you are pasting.
- Spray the basket outside to avoid breathing in gloss spray fumes.
