The Roll Call

Today is a special day for Texas Aggies. I will always remember my first Muster on April 21, 1993 as a freshman at A&M. It is when I got it what it means to be an Aggie. On April 21, 2005, my faith in our university was renewed when I answered 'here' for Sean at his Muster. I will never attend one that will mean so much to me. You can read my reflections here and read Sean's own words about a special Muster to him.

I don't know how many Aggies will be on the Roll Call but I do know that six Aggies have lost their lives in the Global War on Terrorism in the last year . . .

Captain Sean Lyerly '98
Corporal Luke Yepsen '08
Sergeant 1st Class Merideth L. Howard '76
Captain Blake H. Russell '98
First Lieutenant Ryan Sanders '01
Major Matthew W. Worrell '94

Softly Call the Muster . . . I will be thinking of all those departed Aggies and their families especially Csilla and Camille as they answer 'here' for their husbands.

***UPDATE: I just got my answer . . . and I find it hard to believe . . . 1158 Aggies have died since April 21, 2006.

what's one more

Since we don't have enough projects going on around the house, my dad and I have decided to tackle one more.
Yes, we are building Colin a swing and slide thing in the backyard. He has been asking for two slides and three swings for weeks. We bought the kit from Lowes and have made a few adjustments . . . I am eager to start but my dad says we must wait until the lumber dries . . . sigh . . . he is such a perfectionist . . . wonder where I got it from? Can't wait to get it started so the boy can play and I can soak up the rays in the hammock!

one more thing

Why is it so expensive to eat healthy? I just love fresh fruit but geez 4.4 ounces of fresh blueberries in $4. Oh well . . . I bought them and some strawberries and a pineapple . . . yum, yum, yummy!

Move On

I am tired of the constant news coverage of . . .
. . . Imus, do people really take him serious?
. . . Pat Tillman, yes it is a sad story but why are we still reporting. I mean he isn't the only American killed by friendly fire . . . he is no different than the 3,000 other killed in the War on Terrorism.
. . . Anna Nicole Smith

Remember how it snowed here on Saturday and Sunday? Well, now the weather is pushing 80 . . . the boy is screaming he needs me to get him some "fresh chocolate milk". I hate to tell him it isn't going to get any fresher because I am not going to milk a cow. Happy Day.

Happy Easter

I guess I should say Happy WHITE Easter . . . yes, it is snowing in central Texas. The boy is loving it and has mastered the art of throwing a snowball very well. We started the day at the town egg hunt and just two hours later had snow . . . it is sticking to the ground and my poor plants are covered in sheets and wrap to protect them . . . poor things!

I'm almost back

I am finally starting to feel better . . . might be all the sun I have been catching while lounging in the hammock, gosh I love that thing! I will be happy when they are finished with the house next door because the Tejano (Mexican) music and constant pounding is really driving me nuts! Oh and they are building this house just 6 feet from the property line . . . deed says it must be 5 and it is only 6 stinking feet . . . the lot is 100 feet wide . . . couldn't they at least give me 10 feet? Not much else going on around the home front but the grass is getting so green!

I am about to head to Colin's school Easter party or as his teacher calls it "The Lord Has Risen Party". Of course I got a huge laugh and knew the very Catholic in-laws would be praying even harder for us. I did not want to send him to school with his Easter Basket that his Sims cousins gave him on his first Easter because it is a Longaberger so I had to do something cute so I bought a sand pail and it was too plain so I spruced it up a bit . . .

I know, I know; total overachiever . . . the letters are cut on a die cut machine out of fabric and just glued on. I was tasked with making finger sandwiches so out came the egg shaped plates that I have had for a zillion years and never used and the flower cookie cutter that I had bought a million years ago at a Pampered Chef party . . . yes, flower shaped ham and cheese sandwiches. Sorry, no photo because I knew someone would have some smart comment but I did have fun. I think I want to have a job that is fun . . .

Hope everyone has a great weekend and Happy Easter to all!

I'm still alive

Sorry for the long absence . . . I have caught the flu bug and my 103 fever finally has gone bye-bye. My body is so hurting. Where is the sun when you need it. It took every ounce of energy I had to get the boy ready for school . . . who I swear will be sick by the weekend . . . nothing a little bribery of donut holes couldn't help make it easier . . . back to bed I go once I get off the endless hold with the phone company. Why? When they ran the phone cable they were suppose to bury it under the ground but all they did was pull up the grass and cover it with grass . . . we wondered why all the grass around the fence was dead! I mean brown dead with no roots. Those lazy bums are coming to bury it under the watchful eye of my dad . . .
