Sims Field
I mentioned Korea last week and how it had been on my mind lately . . . last week they dedicated the new soccer stadium after Sean . . .

I really have no connection to that part of Sean's life, but I am sure it means a lot to the Sims family since they spent so many years in Korea . . . someday we are going to go visit Korea . . . I must see all the places Sean used to talk about . . . oh they were a mischievous group!

budding artist?
A few weeks ago we were sitting around eating when Colin made an off hand comment about Van Gogh and his sunflowers . . . what? I was shocked and taken back that a six year old knew who Van Gogh was and that he painted sunflowers. I started asking him a million questions on where he learned this and got this in return, "Mom I just know these things." Well, what can one say to that? Well, I can think of a few words . . . LOL
Yesterday he came home from school with some graded papers and art class stuff . . . folded in half was this (left) and the real Van Gogh(right) . . .
. . . yep, this masterpiece was folded in half but now flat so it can be framed . . . I mean pretty good for a six year old. I also made sure to remind Colin that we saw the actual sunflower painting last year in Amsterdam when Iforced took him to Van Gogh's museum. He has also requested art classes . . . now that we can do!

last Monday
Today was suppose to be Colin's last Monday at school but that did not happen as he is home sick. A nasty virus has entered our house and he was up most of the early morning sick . . . no fun! The alarm went off at 645 and I quickly turned that off . . . we woke up two hours later.
During the early morning hours, I went to see if I had any medicine to help and found one . . . weird thing is it was filled at this same time last year for probably the same thing . . . lovely! I also realized it was exactly one week before Memorial Day and our big summer adventure . . . man how excited were we last year?
I guess we are on a sick diet today . . . and fingers crossed it doesn't hit me later in the week. Well at least we aren't leaving for a big trip next week!
Speaking of medicine . . . last week on one of the message boards a lady mentioned she got a check for $64 for the recalled children's medicine. I was like WOW they send you money? I thought you just threw it out and chalked it up as wasted money. SO, I checked it out . . . every medicine I had was on the recall list . . . Zyrtec, Tylenol (x 2), and Motrin. I filled out the information it asked for and requested a refund check rather than a coupon. I really did not expect to get a check and never expected to get what I got. Less than a week later I had a check for $32! I am sure it covered the cost . . . thankfully I bought replacement medicine , generic of course, this weekend since he is home sick! Have a healthy Monday . . . summer is almost here . . . and then we can start asking, "when does school start again?"

thinking about Sean
I don't write much about Sean these days . . . doesn't mean I don't think about him because not a day passes without thinking of him or remembering something special to us. Tonight I found myself reading these comments. For some reason I googled his name and this popped up . . . reminds me that people do still remember him even after 5.5 years have passed . . . wow, isn't that hard to believe? I was touched by the comments from the escorts in the air and on ground; had no idea they posted comments years after he died. The last few weeks Sean has been on my mind a lot . . . not sure why but he has . . . I also find myself very emotional and crying more than normal. And while I am sure he would be fine with me trying to move on with life, I just don't know that for sure, and I guess that causes me doubt and emotions. I guess that is why I don't write about this that often as it still remains hard for me . . . just when you think you have it figured out or under control something happens.
. . . more later about why my mind has been on Korea lately too . . . hopefully will have a link to put up.

pots of gold
Well it is that time of year where the local tax appraisers office 'decides' the value of my property and then sends me a lovely bill to pay up . . . oh we have a love-hate relationship. I saw in the newspaper they were sending out new notices if your property value increased . . . keeping my fingers crossed. So when I opened the mailbox yesterday, I was like crap, not again. To my surprise my value went down . . . hey I'm not complaining. I am so thankful as I won't have to waste my time and the appraisers time by making an appointment and going in to get a fair value of the property . . . I guess that means they will just raise taxes to make up the difference and totally sock it to me next year . . . hey gives me another year.
A few weeks ago I made cupcakes for the Cake Walk booth at Colin's school carnival . . . I thought I took photos of the finished product but guess not . . . who knows what camera was sitting around when I 'thought' I snapped it. They turned out good and were fun to make . . .

mix waiting to make a rainbow . . . hmmmm, funny how the bowls match the batter wishing I had a photo of my own but here is what the final product looks like . . . personally I think fewer color would look better . . . maybe red, white, and blue for 4th of July?

. . . so I guess my rainbows lead to the pots of gold! Have a great weekend . . .
