life lesson

Monday we had to deal with the issue of death . . . I was torn on telling Colin or not . . . then how to tell him. Remember the fish he received as a result of being good on our vacation last summer? Well, it died. It was acting weird the last few days so I knew something was wrong. When he got off the bus I told him fish was having a difficult day. He ran to check on him and realized he was dead. He wanted to bury him so we dug a hole in the back yard and that was that. I noticed he was teary eyed as we walked back inside . . . he was sad. Of course he asked if he was in heaven and I agreed . . . he seemed to forget after a little while which was nice but he then asked when he could get another fish . . . hmmmm, never if it is up to me! I was sad he had to deal with the fish dying but honestly it was one less thing on my daily to do list. I hope Fisher (what an original name) is at peace.

weird?

I have a Facebook account . . . I don't post my status very often but do enjoy reading what all my 'friends' are up to. I am friends with some of my old students . . . they have all graduated from school and are young adults. I have recently received some requests from my current students . . . I teach kids between 3rd-6th grades . . . of course I decline but why are kids that young even on Facebook?

Of course it reminds me of the teacher who was recently suspended for her postings about her students being lazy and such on her blog. Hmmmm, I read some of what she wrote and saw one of her interviews post suspension. Well, I sort of agree . . . I mean she was teaching high school kids and I teach much younger but after my days in middle school . . . I can't say I feel any different. It will be interesting to see what happens in her situation. I have written about my frustrations (nothing in the last 5 years) with teaching and children who are less than cooperative . . . never mentioned the names of the school or children but aired it out. Wonder if I need to go delete those now?

Is it just me or is it weird for teachers and students (under 18) to be 'friends' on social sites?

Oh and tonight The Amazing Race starts again . . .

happy hearts?

We are both well . . . I was never really sick but probably just jinxed myself . . . Colin missed three days of school!!! I thought his fever was never going to break but it finally did after 3 long days and nights. He is good to go and back to himself.

Yesterday we celebrated Valentine's Day with my parents and grandmother . . . I started cooking lunch a couple years back and have really enjoyed it so did it again this year. I have so many holiday serving dishes but never pull them out . . . this year I did and it really made my heart so happy!

. . . someone really enjoyed the menu this year too . . . lobster tail, shrimp, baked potato, fresh asparagus, and banana fosters . . . never mind what he is wearing, LOL.
Well and these always put a smile on my face but even more so this year . . .

Of course I would lying if I wasn't thinking about this special event that happened 13 years ago today . . . still makes my heart sad but thankfully the last couple of years I have learned to adjust and be happy again too. Wishing all you a happy heart day!

nap time . . .

If we are having nap time in our household it means one thing . . . Colin must be sick! Indeed he is . . . poor little guy is just miserable but after a 'speedy' visit to the Sunday Clinic he was diagnosed with Paraflu . . . so rest and fluids are on his agenda the next few days! I will say that the hospital we visit has a Sunday Clinic for its current patients that attend any of their clinics and it was SO nice! We arrived 10 minutes before it opened and there were already 10 people in line . . . it took a bit to get checked in but we were in and out in less than 2 hours. I think that is just great . . . I have had times where I sat in rival hospitals ERs for over 12 hours. So back to nursing the patient I go.

Snow Day

We got a real snow day today . . .

He is having 'snow' much fun!!! Well I am too! I have been shoveling snow (it really isn't necessary but feel I need to do something) and it brings back memories of the constant shoveling in Germany. I know you people who live in real winter locations laugh at us southerns but hey it has snowed more in Texas the last four years than the previous 30 so this is a big deal. Is it global warming or el nino?

no snow day

Colin's school cancelled this morning at 5:30am . . . of course I had already taken a shower so just crawled back into bed until he woke up. The school where I worked was business as usual. Well except for the fact they did not have electricity until around 10am. I took the day off since Colin was home and he could not stay home alone. It is COLD here and we do have some icy patches but nothing too bad . . . hopefully it is back to normal tomorrow or we would be thrilled to wake up to a yard full of snow too; I'm just saying!
