Humor Us

We've been told that two was bad... but lately we've heard that three is worse. Please tell us it isn't so! This has been Ethan lately... fun, huh? Please say it is just a stage!

Father and Sons 2009

Ryan and Ethan headed up to Ethan's 3rd Father and Sons after the ultrasound and lunch. Ryan was well prepared with tin foil dinners, plenty of books and movies to occupy Ethan, and sleeping bags. Last year they didn't have sleeping bags and were very cold! The trip looked promising, but didn't turn out to be much fun. They arrived with plenty of time to set up their tent and got things settled. Dinner didn't turn out quite like Ryan had hoped and Ethan ended up eating graham crackers and marshmallows for dinner. They explored a little, read books, and watched some movies. Sounds like fun, but Ethan wanted to go home by bed time. Lately he has wanted to go home when he is in unfamiliar situations. Ryan didn't give in and they ended up having a better nights rest than the previous year.

By breakfast time the next morning Ethan's appetite and attitude didn't change much. Luckily Ryan took some dry cereal and milk to sustain Ethan. Ryan enjoyed breakfast that was provided by the Elder's Quorum. After breakfast, they packed up camp and headed home due to a sour demeanor.

Addy, on the other hand, had an enjoyable time. She went to Jordan Elementary to visit with her old students and some friends, saw Angels and Demons with Carol, and enjoyed a nice meal at Abuelos. She had also planned to do some shopping the next day, but was greeted by a screaming toddler as she was leaving. Hopefully next year will be better... for Ryan's sake.

It's a...

We're a few posts behind, but Ryan has the camera at Fathers and Sons and we promised to post about our ultrasound.

Today we had a full morning of doctor appointments. Ryan made a trip to the eye doctor, Ty to the vet for blood tests, and Addy to the OB. We headed down to the OB around 10 and got in pretty quickly. It is always a relief to see that your little one is developing as it should and we were not disappointed. We patiently waited as the technician poked around and took several pictures and measurements of different areas - head, torso, leg bone, heart, etc. The baby looks great, measuring on its due date and is in the 94th percentile.

Get to it! Right? So the news everyone wants to know... sugar and spice, Ethan was right! We're expecting a little girl. Ethan has said that it was a baby sister all along and he is not disappointed. It is true that Addy wanted a boy, but she is very happy that the baby is growing and is healthy. Ryan is also pleased and will have so much fun spoiling her. We're excited and will have fun looking for things in yellow.

She has a really cute profile, just like Ethan did. She also looks like her head takes after her brother - big! We're so excited that she is healthy and look forward to seeing her grow - and Addy's belly to expand. We'll have another ultrasound in 8 weeks to make sure that she's still on target.

Mother's Day Weekend

We started off our weekend going on a hike with the Cub Scouts at the Riparian Preserve Saturday morning. It was very sunny and quite warm. The boys Addy works with were working on an elective about birds... unfortunately, we didn't see many. We cooled off afterwards with smoothies before running last minute errands. We also had a farewell party to go to that day. Our friends, Spencer, Christina & Emerson Harrison, are moving to Boston and they had a pool party to say good bye. They are awesome friends who will be missed, but hopefully we will have a chance to visit them. Addy's family planned to do Mother's Day on Saturday, so we didn't get to stay long. After a quick nap in the car and a dash home, we made our way to the Bowman's for pizza, wings, and ice cream. It was nice to finally sit and cool off, but all three of us were worn out!

Sunday was less than ideal for a Mom. Ethan woke up with a sour attitude. He typically sits through Sacrament Meeting well, but had two trips to time-out. Nursery didn't pan out well either. Ryan was subbing in Primary, so it was all Addy when the Nursery Leaders brought Ethan into Gospel Doctrine. Ethan was saying he needed to use the restroom, but wanted to go home. After another struggle in time-out, he made his way back to Nursery. Long story short... Addy spent the rest of Church in the hallway outside Nursery. After Church we headed to Ryan's parents house to celebrate Mother's Day with his side of the family. We had a nice time visiting with family and some good food. Addy's highlight - Ryan's dad remembered that she doesn't like nuts in cookies and made some w/out just for her. Thanks Eric!

Happy Mother's Day to all of the amazing women out there... who are Moms... Aunts... Sisters... or Friends. We hope that the day went smoother for you than it did for us!

Summer Fun

The last few nights we have been enjoying the evenings by playing outside with Ethan's water ball. Ethan was hesitant at the Splash Pad, but after Ryan showed him how much fun it could be he was game. Thank heavens for other ways of cooling off... not as much maintenance or money as a pool!

On the Mend

We were expecting to wake up Friday morning and decide what to do with Ty Dye - whether or not to put him down. We were headed up to Eagar for Ryan's cousin's wedding and needed to make a decision before we left so Ty wouldn't suffer over the weekend. Well, Ty didn't have such a stiff neck, was acknowledging us when we entered the room, and seemed to have an appetite. We decided not to put him down and see how he progressed.

We're happy to say that it looks like he is on the mend. The anti-biotics are doing their job and the canned cat food is helping him gain weight. He wasn't eating the dry food because it hurt his mouth and that lead to the weight loss. Now what?

Addy called the doctor this morning and he was excited to hear that Ty made a turn for the better. We'll keep him on the anti-biotics and continue feeding him canned food. Next week we'll call back and check-in with the doctor to let them know how Ty is doing. After we feel like he has gained enough, they'll do some more blood work to check his kidneys and then decide if he is ready to have the teeth extracted (what has been causing the infection).

We're so excited that Ty is home and that he is doing well. His 5th birthday is tomorrow and we're thrilled to celebrate it with him!

Quick Trip

Yesterday we headed out around noon for Ryan's cousin's wedding. Bonnie and Clif were married in the Snowflake Arizona Temple and then had their reception in their home town of Eagar. We decided to leave sooner than needed and maybe stop to see some sights on the way up. We decided to go through the Salt River Canyon - always a beautiful drive, but would be so much more fun in the Beetle! We got out a little later than intended and got stuck in construction for a while, so we didn't get off to see much. We pulled over at the canyon to give Ethan a potty break - he wasn't too keen on peeing in his potty chair in the back of the Equinox. We stretched our legs and enjoyed the beautiful views and cool breeze before continuing our adventure.

We made it to the wedding with time to spare, got our clothes changed, and started to enjoy some of the goodies. Then, Ethan tossed his cookies. Most of it hit the floor, but his newly ironed clothes needed to be changed. Lucky for us, he had a spare set in case of a potty accident. After the mess was cleaned and clothes were changed, we enjoyed visiting with the extended family.

Congratulations Bonnie and Clif!!! Your wedding was lovely and we're excited for you!
